My brothers and I had recently gone for the Argentina Vs Venezuela FIFA friendly in Kolkata. We wanted to try and catch the players staying at the Hyatt Regency which was smack opposite this hotel and not waste any time travelling, thus booked our self into the Pearl Hotel. Smack outside Gate 3 of the Salt Lake Stadium is the hotel and very conveniently located. The rooms are basic - but that is what we were looking for. The staff (Sukesh Bhagat and Ms. Mala) was very courteous and helpful. Closeby to some nice restaurants as well. All in all. Value for money and helpful staff. If your going to watch a game at the Salt Lake and not too fussy about the * rating of the hotel, definitely recommend it.

Pearl is a homely place, Where you can be assured of an homely atomosphere at a very reasonable rate, The reception is efficient and knoW to cater to the needs of business and family customers. The check in is fast and efficient. Located just outside Salt lake and on Byepass road, it has good connectivity to Salt lake area, Airport and city also. The proposed metro should make it very easy and convinient also.

Rooms are decorated aptly for a business hotel, but can make a family also at home. It has all the basic needs taken care off. Housekeeping and cleaniness is good. It ensures that you feel at home here.

One major problem is the doors do not have internal locking arranments. So even if you lock the door and sleep, could be the housekeeping staff could enter after knocking three times, assuming you are not in the room, So ensure to put up the safety chain if you are in the room or best is to hang the DND card.

Food is great. Pasha serves south Indian and Indian cusine. Chinees food may not be available at all times. The food served is hot and tasty. Service is also great. Buffet breakfast has a good spread and sometimes it may take time for them to serve tea or coffee. But a great experience.

The hotel staff was courteous and went an extra step to make the stay as comfortable as possible. They had room for laziness unlike many other hotels in the town. The room service was prompt and food tasted amazing (especially because I like that ‘dhaba’ touch in my food) … !!!

Booked it for the location - perfectly located near the main highway there, so easy access. Also had a shopping mall, movie theatre, supermarket and restaurant in 5 mins walk.
Service was great....quite friendly staff...bent over backwards to accommodate some requests (I'd forgotten to pack an umbrella...was raining like crazy...they bought one and gifted it to me...maybe that was just the foreigner treatment)

Also loved 24 hour restaurant. Only 24 hour food joint around there...and quite cheap with half decent food.

But rooms are smallish. Complained and was upgraded to room 308. Much larger, and is tucked away in the corner so never gets noisy.

Paid $70 a night....but their website has much more expensive rates....don't use their website, use a travel website instead

The rooms are priced heavily . The value for money could not be attained. the rooms is small in size . Food is average. But the breakfast in CP plan- not much options and also needs lots of improvement.

I had booked my marriage anniversary reception at the banquet of Pearl. The Hall was good , with good arrangement. The Organising manager (Sandeep ) was very helpful . The food buffet was very good and served hot . Apart from that , it did not served the other purpose that I was looking. I was looking for a dance floor , with some music , which they failed to provide. I believe the hotel needs more dedicated staff like Sandeep to keep upto their commitment.

The hotel is nicely situated opposite Hyatt Regency so not difficult to explain the route to taxi drivers (if you are not Bengali). Rooms are not as big as they seem in the photographs but conveniently sized for a comfortable stay.

They do not have centralized water heater so do not forgot to turn on the geyser at least 15 min. before taking bath, else water may be not be at that comfortable a temperature especially in winters. The shower in my colleagues room was also not working so he eventually had to resort to the traditional bucket mode.

They have a restaurant pasha, however if you only plan to drink and eat while being drunk then its fine. Else the food is just OK and at times not that hot either.

Booked this hotel, directly on phone.

Shortcomings:
--------------------

- Its not a 4 star or even a 3 star hotel. Don't get fooled by pics on web site. Room's are quite small. They have extended the pics to give a spacious feel.

- The price tag of $90 - $160 ( Rs. 5000 - Rs. 9000) does not justify the room sizes. At best its a good quality or a premium guest house. I would say a "wannabe" with high potential. I paid about $110 so i am in a bitter mood.

- If you are able to get a regular room at about $ 50 , i feel its justified. The suite for about $ 75 - 80.

- They have a long way to go for the star status. I would say - the quality of linen / washroom etc. The discipline of maintaining the mini bar etc.

- No sound proofing - so you would hear the sound of vehicles from expressway.

- Every room has a separate AC / Geyser - may be considered energy efficient - i am not sure.

- Wash rooms are quite small and cramped.

Good Aspects:
--------------------

- Staff friendly and helpful.
- They attend to your needs - at least they helped us with the missing elements.
- New construction, clean , well maintained as of now. 1 Year old.
- Good view of lake etc.
- On expressway - makes access to new business areas and corporate offices easier and fast.
- Food is affordable ... thats where they don't pretend to be a 3 / 4 star. Quick service - is what we experienced.

Suggestions for the Hotel
-----------------------------------

- Improve the quality of linen / cleanliness of sheets and towels.
- Try to get some soundproofing done.
- Rationalize the price - The present Room Rate / Sq Feet for the property is exorbitant for the value that is given to a guest. The rack rates are obscene and even the offered rates are obscene.

I spent a night as a stopover on my way to Dhaka and paid 5000INR for a night for an extremely dirty and poorly maintained room.

The room was an extremely small one, with a sliding door for a bathroom that was slightly bigger than a standard closet. There was visible mould on the AC, stains on the bed spreads and hair all over the room. The bathroom was a total nightmare with wires that were open in the shower area.

I would think this place is a potential health hazarad and would not stay back there again !

In My View it is not good idea to stay in Pearl hotel, Staff members are very rude. They have no managment skills.people are very uneducated who are working there, I paid so much but at last I was very unsatisfied, I think they should learn manner and behavior first. they say that they are 4 star hotel but still so many mosquitos in a rooms.
Thanks,
