I stayed there for a week. I liked the individual atmosphere of this rather small and new hotel. Rooms are a bit on the small side, but very nice big comfy bed and flatscreen. Staff is extremely friendly and supportive. The lobbies on the floors are welcoming with loung music and sofas. Compared to other hotels in this area (many of which with not really clean and inviting) a real jewel since it´s modern and spotless clean. I had a low season rate, so it was a great value for me. Breakfast service needs indeed improvement. Food is okay, but limited choices (no buffet) etc. Excellent location. IN walking distance to main shopping streat, new market, Indian Museum, also Victoria memorial is just a 10 minutes car ride. Also it was a perfect retreat from the buzz of Kolkata streets.

This place probably isn't worth the 3500 Rs + fee per night, BUT it is certainly cozy and clean. I'm glad we stayed.

If you are not on a tight budget and want to avoid the nearly unavoidable bedbugs in Kolkata's backpacker type hotels...stay here.

The free morning breakfast is passable but will certainly not inspire you to want order lunch or dinner here.

Has wifi for an abusrd rate. Plenty of internet cafes nearby, however.

I arrived in Kolkata intending to stay for 3 days. I had booked Housez 43 before reading the reviews on Trip Advisor so was slightly concerned after reading them. Due to falling ill, I ended up having to stay for 8 nights and was really grateful to be staying at Housez 43. The staff were really friendly, and so helpful during the time I was unwell, they couldn't do enough. The rooms appeared to be fairly recently decorated and had lots of character. The rooms were very clean, the food was good and the hotel is in an excellent location.

I had booked this hotel prior to reading the reviews about the accommodation. After reading several reviews, we were worried about what we had booked. We had been in India travelling for a couple of weeks, from Mumbai, Goa and Delhi to Kolkata.

When we arrived at the hotel we were pleasantly surprised. The hotel was much better than those we experienced in Mumbai and were in the same price range and hotel star rating. The room was massive (we had a superior room) and the staff were brilliant.

The only issue I had with the whole experience at this hotel was that it was a little noisy, given it is on a main street. Apart from that, the location was great. If you're looking for a budget hotel that won't charge you a fortune but gives you the basics you need, this is the hotel for you!

In comparison with the other hotels we experienced in India it was more than we expected for the cost. I would not stay in anything less than this hotel and can't comment on the standard rooms, but the superior room (on Level 1) was good value.

Funky energetic interiors had me surprised, considering the surroundings.
Service was decent. Not quite the Ritz, but then I wasn't paying for the Ritz either.
Don't expect a swimming pool or a gym. But on the bright side, there is 24 hours room service (which is indispensible for me, midnight snacks being a priority), decent service, unbeatable location and good value for money.
I stayed in room 211, which was spacious. Bathrooms are not too big, and there is no bathtub.
Overall, quite liked it, and for the same price range, will definitely stay here again.

good location - walking distance to a metro stop and with plenty of decent places to eat nearby. the room (a 'luxe') was a good size and the bathroom acceptable. the sheets had seen better days but the towels seemed ok. the reception staff varied significantly in competence and the room service would randomly call the room every evening to ask if we wanted anything! for what we paid, i think there were probably better hotels our there. I wouldnt stay here again.

This is a decent hotel and is suitable for business traveller or for family trip. The rooms are small but nice. The restaurant is however is not that good but is complemented by the fact that there are many decent and good restaurants nearby.
Room service is OK.

This "budget botique" hotel is located on Mirza Ghailb St, right in the heart of Calcutta and has a great spot. The idea of a mid-range boutique hotel is a good idea and they've almost got it right here. But things feel a little bit in need of a new coat of paint and a good spring clean. The beds were comfortable enough but not fabulous and the bathroom was functional. The wi-fi was not working when we visited. The staff worked hard and were friendly. A little bit of vision and a good once over and this place could be even better.

The hotel is centrally located. the rooms are clean but pretty cramped. The breakfast is nothing to talk about. Room ambience is good. But surely this is no value for money.

Rooms are very bad not clean, not hygienic , service and staff is very bad ,,, very difficult to find location, food charges too high , i would not recommend any body of good class to stay in this hotel.

Their staff took almost 45 minutes to give me complimentary water bottle

I have stayed in a superior room for five nights this November. In this small room, you can hear the noise of the street. The colors of linen and towel are gray that should be the white ones. Small flying bugs always stop on the washbasin.

The food is OK, but the restaurant is very small that allow around ten people.

They provide prepaid wireless Internet, 220 Rupees for half day and 330 Rupees for one day.

The only boutique thing about this hotel is the size of everything except the price. They had jacked the rate for a small, dark and noisy room up to 3500 Rupees plus tax, and the breakfast area was so small that some people had to stand up. You can find better deals at half the price nearby if you look around.

First of all, let me say that I am a Travel Agent and a Tour Leader, so I ve been spending 20 years of my life in hotels worldwide...so hotels are really my business...
The positive things about HOUSEZ 43 are: STAFF very nice, friendly and helpful all the time, LOCATION perfect for anything you need, COLORS the hotel is painted with strong beautiful colors....
The negative are: THE HOTEL IS NOT A BOUTIQUE HOTEL AT ALL, IT IS NOT A 3 STARS HOTEL, and THE PRICES PAYED IS TOO EXPENSIVE for the services we got with rooms in no perfect conditions.
A part from noise (we perfectly know the problem when we stay in Calcutta), I had to change 2 rooms (#207 in yellow color - #104 in blue color) before had a decent one fully equipped (#208 in acid yellow color)...I booked thru TRAVELGURU.COM (excellent website prices are unbeatable), but many services described in the website were not available once i got there (NO BUSINESS CENTRE, NO RENTAL PHONE, NO RENTAL COMPUTERS, NO INTERENT ACCESS, NOT ALL ROOMS HAVE ALL THE EQUIPMENTS described with no desk, no minibar..etc.
Well to make thing short : THE HOTEL CAN BE PERFECT AS A 2 STARS HOTEL, FOR SOMETHING NO MORE THAN 2000RS PER NIGHT....AND FORGET ABOUT THE BOUTIQUE !!!

Rooms smelled, hair all over the place. I walked into the room, it was dirty (pillows, sheets, bathroom) so I asked them to clean it. Still wasn’t’ good enough, so I changed rooms. Then after an hour there I had to get out ASAP. I felt like a cockroach or rat was going to crawl on me in my sleep. It was not cheap either!!! I don’t understand how such a dirty place can get away with ridiculous prices. My advice, you need to pay up in Calcutta b/c everything is so run down. Go with a big name hotel – just not worth staying at a medium-priced hotel as these types of hotels are an absolute TERRIBLE value in Calcutta. It’s WORTH paying up in Calcutta – don’t try to save a few bucks.

the room is small, bathrooom is good for a child only, it is so small, the bed linen looks like never have been washed. the bed itself is an apology of woodwork - it has bugs that keeps on making noise int he night, and the hinges are all wrong, without any maintenance.

food is okay at the basement. but it is horribly expensive. good for unsuspecting travellers from bangladesh or bhutan!

don't consider staying there. it is worth less than rs. 1000 a night.

Well, here I am searching for another hotel in Kolkata as I don't think I can bear to spend a single night as this smelly dump. How is it rated #12 in Kolkata by TripAdvisor? Quite simply the nastiest place I've come across in more than five years. Ghastly and not even cheap. AVOID

Lo teniamos reservado y ni siquiera nos quedamos pese a tenerlo pagado.
Nos enseñaron varias habitaciones, todas olían igual de mal y su limpieza y mobiliario en consonancia.............Los baños mejor no mirarlos.
