I am just ending my second stay of several weeks at the Radisson Kathmandu between July and September 2011. On both occasions, it has been very friendly, efficient and most of all I truly relished the fabulous cuisine in the Olive Garden, and the entirely decent cuisine in the "Fun Cafe". The staff go out of their way to listen to the customers and be helpful. But the highlight of every evening after a long day's work was to sit in the Olive Garden restaurant and enjoy Rupak's world class cuisine. Rupak goes out of his way to prepare imaginative, beautifully presented, well coordinated and exquisitely tasty dinners that would hold their own compared to any first-class restaurant in Europe or North America. Very highly recommended.

I spent the Nepali New Year (14 April) this year (2011) and spent some wonderful moments in Nepal around Kathmandu and Pokhara.

My stay in Kathmandu was made more comfortable due to my stay in Hotel Radisson at Lazimpat which seemed to close to all the hot and happening places in the capital. Apart from that,my room was vey comfortable with all the modern amenties that once could ask. I also spent a good deal of time at the SPA and the rooftop swimming pool. The buffet breakfast was really delicious and had lots of options. The only non-positive thing that comes to my mind was the temporary closure of the hotel casino. However, I learned that it was about to be opened shortly. Definitely, I will consider staying there once I go to Nepal once again.

Cannot comment on the cost of the hotel rooms as booked via travel agent.
Lovely hotel, out of town, but good walk to centre.
The entire staff who we were in contact with were polite, courteous and very helpul.
No complaints at all. We had a lovely clean room, very large bed.
The food we had was excellent and varied at both breakfast and evening meal. There is a main restaurant, Italian restaurant and 2 snack bars. Outside eating area, but not used generally during our stay. Lovely flowers outside and in reception, really add to the charm.
Rooftop swimming pool and fitness centre.
Would use this hotel again if ever in Kathmandu.
There is a World Expeditions desk which presume arrange trekking.

The hotel is very well located, at the heart of the city, near by the Royal Palace, Thamel (tourists area) and Durbar Marg.
They offer nice restaurants options inside the property: The Fun Café (serving breakfast, lunch and dinner), Olive Garden (dinner), Corner Bar (like a pub) and Pool Restaurant (lunch and dinner). If you feel guilty after having all these options, you can exercise at their very well equipped gym. The pool and sauna are also nice relaxing options.
The front desk staff is very courteous, and will help you anytime you need. The business center has 2 computers available for guests.
Nepal as India, they have weddings season three times a year and if you are lucky during your stay, the restaurant (The Fun Café) has a glass wall to the Waterfall Garden Patio where all the parties happens. You will have a glance at their culture, and happens very frequently without any problems to the guest. They always finish before 11PM and even before that you can’t hear anything from the rooms!
They have very special attention for guests with Gluten Allergy, just let them know in advance.
The hair saloon is also very nice and offers good services for affordable price! You can also enjoy their pastry shop, at the front gate!
If you have the opportunity, try to meet their general manager, is a fantastic person as well all their team!
To get to the hotel, use the taxi pre-paid service from the airport for NRs 500,00 (U$ 8,00). Don’t be scared about cabs conditions, they will get you to the destination safe! Or try to request the transfer from the hotel.
Just an advise, always negotiate with the taxi during your stay in Kathmandu!
Don’t go expecting a brand new hotel, but you will definitely have a great service with very comfortable rooms.

Clean, luxurious, every five star amenity...staff seem genuinely eager to please, and are notably lacking in a what appears to be a trademark surliness experienced during my stay in this country. All requests met promptly. A little on the pricey side for some extras, was going to hire a PC until I worked out the exchange rate - nearly A$50/day!

Only letdown there is no porterage at thsi hotel. Not sure what the bell boys are there for, apart from seemin to be standing around all day, particularly disappointing in that this is a trekker' s tour group hotel, and not a finger was lifted during my two stays here to assist with luggage.

Othewrwise i wouldn't stay anywhere else in Kathmandu.

Wonderful. This hotel is great; first of all because of the location - it is away from the main chaos of Kathmandu but still central enough to allow you to walk to Thamel and Durbar Square.

Rooms are small but comfortable, clean and they look new. (I think currently they are in the process of rebuilding some of the older rooms to freshen them up a bit). The bathroom was also great with a bathtub. Ask for a room on the higher floors, from there you get a great view of the city and the surrounding mountains.

The swimming pool is great - especially after returning to Kathmandu after a long trek this is THE place to go to relax! The poolside bar is also good, and a great place to sit and watch the sunset.

The staff is really friendly and helpful. Overall a great experience and if I ever go back to Kathmandu this is the place I'll be staying at.

We went on a business trip. The hotel is an excellent one and we have experienced a nice time. We stayed there for five days in two slots. Everytime we entered the hotel, we were greeted with a homely reception. In the month of March, Kathmandu was very hot but hotel atmoshphere was so cool that we could not fell the heat. Radison has a very good gym, pool and relaxation facility that actually used to releived our day long tiredness. The beautiful lounge was also another area of relaxation. Casino area was the most attractive one during evening. Restaurants and bars were great.
Overall I would say this is probably one of the best hotel in Kathmandu.

This hotel was a gem amongst a hive of dust and noisy traffic. Walking distance to the main town of Thamel where shopping was excellent. The breakfast was fantastic and the dinners very good but expensive. We were able to negotiate though at a buffet dinner where we only had soup and salad. Dont use the internet, phone or facilities there as very expensive compared to just down the road. Internet cafe is just around the corner. Rooms were beautiful and couldnt be faulted. Staff friendly, always smiling - lovely people, the nepalese.

It is in a convenient location to Thamel and close to a bank. Very handy! The food was excellent. We had a smorgasbord dinner for a few nights for around the 800 rupees price each. Desserts to die for! Breakfast was also excellent, heaps of food to choose from. Would definately stay there on any future trips to Kathmandu.

Was put off by the other reviews of this hotel so booked in one nite at the Malla. What a mistake! Sorry but this is the only place to stay in Kathmandu. New and international style hotel but full of Nepali character. All the staff are super helpful esp the guest relations officer. The travel desk will help you with just about any request and she came back after working hours to deliver our air tickets. The room was new, clean and fresh smelling. No mustiness anywhere. No power outs. They are pricey but you get what you pay for. This place has all the modern comforts and bells and whistles plus world class service plus personality, warmth and vibe. Couldn’t ask for more. Oh and the view of the valley and surrounding hills from the rooftop pool will take your breath away.

I stayed here for 10 days from end Sept to beginning Oct.
I made the booking at the hotel itself.
Because we were staying more than 10 days, we were offered complimentary buffett breakfast and dinner which was fantastic.
On arrival we were offered a bottle of wine but as I don't drink alcohol, they said they would send us up a cake instead! It was a lovely surprise!
Every afternoon we returned to find a plate of fruit and cookies.
The staff could not have been more helpful and friendly.
The rooms were very comfortable and large and the bathroom was more than adequate.
Taxi's were readily available just outside the entrance and just a 100 metres or so away was a fantastic store called Bluebird that had everything you could possibly need, from food to toiletries to clothes.
I could have stayed here quite happily for a month!
Great place to stay!

Myself and my partner stayed here for 5 nights.

On the first two nights we were given room 211 on level two. The view was terrible and there were many bugs coming out from cracks in the floor. However when we returned to the hotel a few days later we were given room 420 on the fourth floor facing the other direction. The view was wonderful and there were no issues with bugs entering into the room. The only downfall was that the shower head didn't work properly, the shower tap fell off and the tv quality was not great.

Whilst the breakfast buffet had a wide variety of food not all the options were always available, maybe as our visit was during peak season and there were many people eating. Dinner and lunch was over priced, particularly in comparison to the quality and price of food in Thamel.

The hotel has a great free wifi system for those staying. However whilst i was waiting in the lobby (as I had a late flight out of Kathmandu), I asked the lady at the reception desk for a wifi card whilst I was waiting for my airport transfer, she informed me politely but with great disdain that it is not hotel policy to give out wifi coupons after checking out, however, she would give me one on this occasion.

Whilst half of the staff here are wonderful and helpful, the other half treat you with disdain.

Overall this hotel is nice by Kathmandu standards, however, the quality of its food, rooms and appliances may not meet some western standards. It is in close proximity to Thamel which is convenient.

Whilst our stay was ok on average I may try and stay elsewhere if I visit Kathmandu again.

I wish they had more tables & proper attendees. The night club was good......the room is ok but bath room was small. i took the room with out carpet which is ok.

the breakfast had good choice. the hotel is the in the central location. i didnot see any taxis standing out, overall Taxi service & Casino improvement will be valuable if they improve bit more.....

the morning buffet is too good.gym n swimming pool on 5th floor, nice.
our children enjoyed a lot in the pool and night casino dance shows.
one thing should be applied by hotel staff strictly--people stand right in front of stage ,in front of dancers throwing money, obstructing the view of people sitting with families.
there is a grace of the hotel, and hotel ppl should strictly avert this.
other services are ok ,rooms are good.

However the rooms are clean, comfortable and adequate for a short stay. Gym is basic again but I quite liked the buz there first thing in the morning, it is busy but everyone is supportive and out to have a good workout bnefore work (many locals use it)> I have to add I found the local people to be very nice, approachable and friendly. By the way, Wi Fi is free in rooms but you its expensive in the business centre.

This property is well positioned in Lazimpat and is served by an excellent and dedicated workforce of staff who take delight in assisting and supporting guests.

The rooms on the club floors (1 and 2) are very large and have wonderful large king+ beds that are great for a good nights sleep. Although the hotel is in need of some investment and remodelling, it is functional for its market and is enjoyable to stay in for small periods.

The room service options are not excellent, but sufficient for simple choices. The Olive Restaurant on the ground floor is very good, with great a la carte options for dinners and lunches. Guests should the advantage of the roof top bar with views of the mountains over the rooftops of Lazimpat and winder Kathmandu.

The small things make the Radisson worth the money. They packed me a to-go breakfast when I checked out before the restaurant opened. They were there to arrange taxies and flights and happily answered my endless questions about directions. They gave me a voucher for a cup of tea or coffee at the Kathmandu airport which is more than it sounds like because it comes with a seat in the air conditioned restaurant and free wifi.

We read some reviews of this hotel which led us to believe it would be a slight disappointment but we were very happy with the hotel. Very good rooms, very polite and helpful service, averagely good food and large choice at breakfast. My husband was very happy with the gym and the sauna/steam room. My only criticisms are that the pool is not in the sun from mid afternoon and also, as a leisure user, the hotel is about a 10/15 minute walk from the centre of town and traffic means that getting a cab/rickshaw is quite frustrating. As a business hotel I suspect that the location is good.
(we strayed here as part of a tour with the company world expeditions and so I don't actually know the rates, I have assumed that it is similar to other Radissons.

The food quality is also very good, specially the Indian food. The breakfast options are also many and what I like most about the breakfast that there is a different menu every morning and nice options for vegetarians. They have their own casino. Very few people make money in a Casino, but it is worth playing just for the fun factor, even if you loose. Nice live dance on floor in the casino.

First off I need to say that I would not give this hotel normal four stars had it been in other countries like Thailand or anywhere else in Southeast Asia. The hotel overall is a bit run-down, the elevators are slow and old, etc. But when it's in Nepal, compared to other hotels I stayed at in other places in the country, it made me miss my stay at the hotel very much. Our room was clean; the staff were nice and helpful; and above all, the fact that the hotel is located just a little off the main street made this hotel a peaceful place to be amidst chaotic Kathmandu.

We had looked up quite a few hotels in KTM and finally chose the Radisson because of its location. It did not disappoint. Set in a quiet street away from the KTM chaos, you wonder where the property would be, until you reach a narrow lane which suddenly ends and voila! its there! Not much of a drive-in (unlike the Hyatt) but the lobby is nice and the check-in process quick.

Ask for higher floor rooms – the view (whatever there is of KTM) is better. Gamblers can try their luck at Casino Rad – though don’t expect Vegas style Casinos.

The tourist attractions of Durbar marg and Thamel are walking distance and cheap taxis are easily available (negotiate the price first though). In case you don’t wana dine at the hotel (food just ok), there is a chinese restaurant just round the corner and a Bluebird supermarket close by too – but food options in Thamel are recommended (try the momos). The approach lane also has a money exchange but its best to check the rate in 2-3 place before you change – the rates do vary.

Thamel is the tourist hub with lots of shopping and eating places. The first visit can be a bit overwhelming with its crowds, narrow lanes and shops, but is quite an experience once you get used to the place. Negotiation is the key and you might need to start as low as 50% at times to get a fair deal. In food, eating (and drinking) recommended at the outside eating space at Kathmandu Guest House in Thamel, the next door La dolce vita and the rooftop restaurant opposite (I forget the name). Do carry a torch with you in case you wish to return back to your hotel at night – street lights are bad and the roads full of potholes. Also most markets are officially closed on Saturdays – though Thamel is till open.

Our site seeing was organised by Yeti travels – quite efficient – would recommend using them. Also don’t miss the 1 hour ‘Everest Experience’ flight by Buddha Air. Awesome. The Hindu and Buddist religious places are also quite facinating. Indian currency is used everywhere though the use of Indian 500 and 1000 notes is legally not allowed and you will have trouble exchanging them. Carry 100 rupee notes instead.

So all in all, if you are looking for a decent hotel in the heart of the city, the Radisson is a good choice, but if you are looking for something more elaborate and don’t mind staying a bit away from the centre – go for the Hyatt. We might try that next time.

secondly, it is located close to consulates, so it is a safeguarded area.. security around the hotel is great..
The facilities/amenities provided are roof top swimming pool, hair saloon, unlimited internet access, fitness centre and many more..
The rooms are spacious and comfortable, no doubt about that..

We stayed at Radisson hotel in August 2007 for around 4 days with my wife and small kid. We thoroughly enjoyed the stay as the hotel has its own casino and we played a lot of blackjack there. The staff was courteous and we thoroughly enjoyed there. the hotel is almost in centre of city adn every place is nearby and we could easily get taxi outside hotel. The pool at rooftop was great and also the buffet breakfast was good. Food at Casino (lunch and dinner) was ok, not to great. We were lucky to be uopgraded to a club room which was nice. The salon opposite hotel was great and we had massages there which wer eunforgettable. They arranged for 2 day sightseeing ( as part of our package) and we sent to see SYamanbhunath, markets, and other temples. Overall a good place to stay in.

We stayed at this hotel for only two nights as a break from a long holiday in Kolkata. Although it is not in the centre of Kathmandu (which is a taxi ride away), it is perfect if you want to see the sights, don't mind paying the taxi fares (which are cheap) and want a quiet hotel as it is a busy place to say the least.
We ate in the hotel three times at different restaurants and we found the food to be good, portions are on the large size! We also tried the cake shop that is owned by the hotel which is just outside the hotel grounds, the cakes were amazing. The hotel staff are very friendly, and were always willing to help.
The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the beds were turned down in the evening.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel if you want to see the sights, but without the noise from the roads keeping you awake!

I've stayed here on a few occasions. I have always found it clean, and the service good.

Internet and food is quite expensive by Nepali standards but you only have to go a hundred metres to get it cheaper.

We did have an incident where my room mate's trekking boots disappeared. She got them back and their excuse was that they thought they were being thrown out as they were 'near' the bin.

I would stay there again.

I stayed at the Radisson for a total of six nights. The first three nights (before a World Expeditions trek) were spent in a basic room, which was nice but nothing special for this kind of hotel. The last three nights (after the trek) were spent in a Club Room - we were upgraded free of charge due to limited room capacity. The Club Room was sensational! Absolutely huge with a separate lounge area and even a dressing room. The bathroom was lovely, we certainly took advantage of the steamy hot showers after trekking! The LCD tv had a bunch of news and entertainment channels, and our room was cleaned twice a day. I felt like a princess for my nights in this room!

There are a number of places to eat at the hotel. The breakfast buffet in the restaurant off the foyer was great, but our favourite spots were the Splash Bar overlooking the pool (fabulous views across the city to the mountains), and the Corner Bar, which is in a separate building above the bakery. The Splash Bar changed it's menu while we were there however and all the prices literally doubled (not sure if this happens every trekking season?), but the prices at the Corner Bar stayed the same. Both are still more expensive than eating out at restaurants, but the difference in price is worth it if you're not keen on a 20 minute walk into Thamel.

I found the staff always friendly and polite, and all spoke excellent English. The location was not fabulous, as I prefer to be in the middle of things, but it's only a 20 minute walk from the tourist area, and taxis are very cheap if you don't want to walk.

Supermarket - Bluebird market is on the corner of the main road. Very close to the hotel and a good place to stock up on cheap snacks.
Money exchange - use the outlets along the dirt road just outside the hotel as they offer a better rate
Shopping - try Folk Nepal and Third World Craft, both on the main road between the hotel and Thamel. They're fair trade and you'll probably get better prices here than if you try bargaining elsewhere

Overall, a great stay. At AUD120 per night for the room it's not cheap, especially by Kathmandu standards, but I'm glad we stayed there. I can't speak highly enough of our Club Room experience!!

For the first trip to Kathmandu, Nepal, I must say my short 3 day stay at Radisson Kathmandhu Hotel turned out to be a very pleasant experience. Unlike the reviews I read on other forums, my personal opinion is that this hotel has a charm on its own. The staff, be it at the reception, the restaurant, room service or cleaners, they were particularly helpful, professional, polite and always pull on that warm and friendly smile. Coupling their hands, or saluting you, they greeted me with their local "Namaste". Though I understand the actual meaning to be "thank you" but they often use this for greetings. In my room, which I paid $95 a night before taxes (and they upgraded me to a more roomy one), I even had coffee maker, LCD TV with CNN channel and many other foreign news channels, wi-fi internet access at 700 rupees for 24 hours use, and free daily breakfast, and local newspapers. The hotel is safe as it is some 200 meters off the main road, which is also very near to the main shopping road in Kathmandu. I understand a lot of the richer locals sign up for the gym on the 4th floor. They have separate sauna, steam and jacuzzis for male and female. Massage is also available there (no in-room service available). This hotel is less than 10 km from the airport and takes about 20 mins ride. The hotel also has a 24-hr casino and a Corner Bar with live bands (certain days) in a separate building within the compound. The pool is a small one, and there is one SplashBar right above the pool level, which provides a generous view of the valley city and the surrounding mountains. You have to prepare for occasional power trips but they come back up almost within 2 seconds. So, it's safe.

Great place to stay when visiting Kathmandu. Not cloistered away (like the Hyatt) but still felt safe and a refuge from the frantic pace of the City itself. Inevitably not as quirky as some hotels (due to being part of such an established chain) but clean, comfortable and great staff.

Located in Lazimpat, where most of the diplomatic community is in Kathmandu. Hotel offers conference facilities as well, which are quite usable.

Beware that the club floor lounge does not operate 24 hours, nor does it operate throughout the day. Its open for breakfast in the morning (7am-9am) and cocktails in the evening (5pm-7pm) and is generally closed at other times, making choosing the club floor (at ~35% more) a debatable option. The only real difference is you get a larger room with a walk-in wardrobe.

Breakfast buffet in the lobby restaurant is a better option (than the club lounge), with a good spread of local and western options (including hot and fresh pancakes and waffles). Other eating options are around the area, including hotels next door.

Souvenir shopping in the area is expensive, better off going further afield. Ask the hotel staff for pointers. Thamel is one place where you can get the usual range of clothes and artifacts. This is about a 10-15 min walk from the hotel. Do bargain, as the first price will generally be high.

Staff are friendly and courteous.

I stayed here five nights during a busy and chaotic time. The staff was exceedingly friendly, accommodating and generally responsive.

The Radisson is in the Lazimpat district so it's close to Thamel and business destinations.

Radisson hotels are basic and decent by business travel standards, not luxurious. The Kathmandu affiliate is no exception. You won't find anything fancy but by local standards there are only a couple of other hotels higher up the chain (Hyatt Regency and Crowne Plaza Soaltee). Definitely shop around, however, as during off-peak times you should not be paying more than $100/night for a comparable room in this category in Kathmandu.

I had trouble with getting a strong wi-fi signal in my room so was moved to another where the signal was better. If internet communication is important then make sure you have a strong wi-fi signal in your room before unpacking. (There is no option of using a LAN cable, unfortunately). However, the internet charge of $15/day is excessive. Other communications issues included noisy phone lines and snowy TV reception, but such is life in Nepal.

One side of the guest room floors are for smokers and the other for non-smokers. This makes sense as smoke is more apt to drift through the ventilation rather than across the hall.

The shower water pressure was very strong -- in fact too strong, meaning the mildewy plastic curtain could not hold in the water.

There are several restaurants in the hotel. The food is nothing to write home about and by local standards, very expensive. You can find much better value for money by going to Thamel for meals.

Also for shopping you can do better elsewhere if you know how to identify quality, can separate real items from fakes and can bargain.

The merchant in the small shop behind the bell desk in the lobby was honest about which gems were authentic and which were not. But at another shop, between the lobby and the business center, the salesman tried to interest me in a large necklace made of "smoky topaz." There is no such thing and this is a common scam to hawk cheap quartz. There's no way a merchant in a reputable hotel should be trying this line. I walked out and complained to the front desk about it but have no idea whether they understood how such comments to guests could sully their reputation. Caveat emptor is the operational phrase here.

Also, transportation fares in Kathmandu are subject to negotiation. There is a fuel shortage so during times of crisis petrol is scarce and dear. However, be careful you don't overpay. A hotel-booked car ran me Rs 350/hour for one outing, while another drive charged Rs 1,000 for a 30-minute run to the airport with one stop on the way. The jaunt to Thamel should never run you more than Rs 100 (and when things are slow it should be much cheaper than that).

I felt the Casino downstairs should be larger.

The swimming pool on 5th floor is disappointing as the view is not so nice as I expected. But on the whole it was very nice stay for me.

The Radisson is at the end of a quiet street, which shields guests from the street noise that is so common around Kathmandu. The street leading up to the hotel has good shopping, but not as cheap or as plentiful as the Thamel neighborhood. Down the street is "Bluebird" shopping store (good for basic food items like biscuits, tea, and spices). Restaurants around the street are good and reasonable.

Thamel and other sites are within walking distance (if you're a walker), and cab fares are reasonable if you're not a walker. The sidewalks are a mess, though, so take a flashlight if you're walking i in the dark.

Breakfast was decent with many choices. Unlike other hotel buffets, there was some variety from one day to the next. The doormen and housekeeping and wait staff are very warm and friendly. The reception staff is friendly enough but not so much by Nepalese standards.

The hotel gift shops are good with reasonable prices. The staff at the barber shop/beauty salon are good (the prices are high for Nepal but very low by Western standards, and it is clean. there is a 15% discount for hotel guests).

The room was reasonably comfortable and well-supplied. I would gladly stay there again, though I was with a group and believe that the hotel is rather expensive if you book on your own.

Taxis outside the hotel area are cheaper but for a daytrip better take one of the hotel-connected drivers.
Once a week they invite for a cocktail reception where you can talk with the hotel managers and get some good advice for your journey.

Essen sollte man lieber auswärts.

2) Hotel - New building construction ha penning, hence the front view was not good...got the room changed to rear view room.
3) Superior room - Was upgraded to deluxe room, which was on a lower floor and hence asked to give me the superior room which is on the above floors, and hence better views.
4) Breakfast was very good.
5) Casino - being an operational casino, it was good time pass in the evenings.

I spend 2 nights here during a conference in July 2011. The hotel was clean with timely service and fairly efficient staff. Airport pick up and drop was on time and efficient. The staff at the reception were friendly and helped me with inputs for local sightseeing.

The rooms were of an average quality, the beds are narrow and not comfortable, they also have wheels on them (I dont know why !) and the combination of wooden floors and beds with wheels were not really fun ! . The flooring on the room and the bath needed some upgradation and the soft furnishings need to be cleaned or replaced.

The big advantage of this hotel is the location of this hotel, it is fairly closeby to a number of shopping places and sightseeing spots. they also have a casino next door but I did not check it out during this trip.

Breakfast and lunch were a standard spread , nothing bad but nothing great to write about !

The Radisson in Kathmandu is located down a side alley from a main road about 5 min taxi ride from Thamel shopping district (aka backpaper ghetto). The room was actually quite large and the bed was firm. Mine was on the front entrance side and on several evening there were very loud wedding processions that eventually streamed in to the attached banquet hall. The gym was adequate but never cool enough and the local members liked to play the tv very loud (even my headphones couldn't block it out). My room wall one day started leaking water and so they made me change rooms, but did not receive any sort of compensation or even assistance. The breakfast buffet is fine although the coffee is instant coffee. There is a bar in a separate building called corner bar if you want to hear a local band play indian song and western rock n roll classics.

I stayed in the Radisson in early April 2011, while on business in Kathmandu.
The hotel is located a short distance from the Durbur Marg city centre, at the end of a lane off the main street in Lazimpat - the neighbouring suburb to the historic trekkers ghetto of Thamel. It would take about 15 minutes to walk to Thamel - although walking anywhere in Kathmandu is a bit of a mission and it is probably quicker and easier to take a taxi. There are inexpensive local taxis sitting directly outside the Radisson gates. Money changers, laundry, ATM machines, cafes, and gift and souvenir shops are also located in the lane directly approaching the hotel.
The Radisson is one of the better 4-5 star hotels offerings in Kathmandu - a city which has surprisingly few very good hotels at the high end of the market. Unfortunately, while it is satisfactory, it will disappoint if you are seeking something a little exotic or sophisticated. The hotel is a bit tired and in need of some refurbishing. The main lobby has a lounge area that is spacious and comfortable, and filled with foreign trekking groups meeting their guides. World Expeditions had a trekking desk in the lobby. Also in the lobby is the strangely named "Fun Cafe" - their bland and very ordinary lobby restaurant, where a rather average buffet breakfast is served each morning. The cafe does have a nice outside dining courtyard area however. There is also an Italian restaurant called the Olive Garden off the lobby, but I didn't see it open. Reception staff were friendly and helpful. There is also a very small business centre open 24 hours.
Outside in the carpark in seperate buildings were the Corner Bar, and a little pastry cafe. We drank there twice and found it extremely smoky from cigarettes on one occasion.
There is a Clark Hatch Fitness Centre in the hotel, although this is a public gym facility and not just for the guests. On the roof is a compact but nice pool area, and a rooftop BBQ restaurant and bar called Splash. It offers nice views across the city when the smog lifts on windy days.
Rooms are average sized, although dark and needing refurbishment. My bathroom smelt disgusting the entire time of the stay. I had a "Deluxe" room, but for some reason they provided shampoo, but not conditioner. The bed was one of the hardest I have ever slept on. Power in the room went off regularly, as is common in Kathmandu due to the national practice of load-shedding, but the secondary power generators always kicked in very promptly.
The hotel provides free wifi, but the complimentary service (especially in the rooms) is completely hopeless, continually crashing, and I ended up purchasing the "faster" wifi service out of complete frustration - although it was only marginally better.

We never ate dinner in the restaurant, prefering to taxi to the narrow crowded lanes of Thamel for shopping and dinner.

When I travel one of my top criteria is a good hotel gym so I can get in early morning workouts before heading off to meetings. This hotel is misleading. While the website says it has a fully equipped gym, it doesn't mention that it is open to public membership. I don't have a problem with this, its quite common for many hotels. However, in this case there are not enough machines to meet the demand. The first morning I woke up really early due to jet lag and wandered down to the gym at 6:10, hoping to find it open before its scheduled opening at 6:30 am. Much to my surprise I found a long line of Nepali men and women, all lined up in a row,.They all rushed in as soon as the doors opened at 6:30 and claimed all the treadmills by putting their towels down. By the time the dust settled and I figured out what was going on there were no cardio machines left! This happens every single morning. Hotel guests always lost out on the chance to use good cardio machines. If a hotel wants to have open membership, they need to have more machines so that paying guests have a chance to use them! That was a big disappointment, not to mention very frustrating. The rest of the hotel was fine, average. Very strange smells in the elevator. The internet connection in rooms was slow and kept cutting out.

Tired rooms that are dated, with even tireder bathrooms, a restaurant that is really average in a city full of great value eateries, and a funny musty smell the permeates all the guest floors.

The staff are fine, helpful and polite, it's just that the rest of the hotel doesn't live up to the standard that they set.

For the price this is very average, locationwise if you need to be in the Laziampat area it's great, and you can walk into Thamel in about 10 minutes.

Rooms were nice but the bathrooms were quite dreary and with the typical American immobile showerhead attached way up high - for this price and at a Radisson, no handheld showerhead? There's a "casino" downstairs but it was full of Indian children running around playing the slot machines (I assume with money given by their parents). Definitely NOT a Vegas/Macau casino experience. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful, though the doormen are connected to the hotel taxis (you ask the doorman for a taxi, you pay way too much), whereas a few meters outside the hotel gate you'll find taxis for far cheaper. The restaurant food was decent and the restaurant staff were friendly and helpful. The location is OK, but walking from the hotel to the sights is an adventure, given the crazy & noisy streets. The Kathmandu taxi's are cheap and friendly, if a bit pushy (to get you for a whole day of driving). The Internet service was poor, had to repeatedly go back to the reception to get new passwords and find spots in the lobby with decent reception. Wifi reception in the room was terrible.

Guess this hotel is among the best in Kathmandu. It is pleasant, fairly clean and things mostly work just fine. The location is good (perhaps not as central as some other top hotels), staff make a really good effort, and the food (dinner) is ok. However, there is still some way to go to 5-star bliss. The hotel has been well used (which shows) and the interior is fairly dated, the beds are not the most comfortable, cleaning could be improved a notch, and breakfast is not the most exciting. Would I stay there again? Certainly - although several other places could be worth a try. Wherever you stay in Kathmandu bring running shoes and go for a run - really early in the morning! There are lots of exciting things to see!

VERY friendly hotel staff but not really worth $127/night for Kathmandu. The rooms are normal/smaller sized and the air conditioner wasn't working properly the entire time (power goes out and the generators kick in). The wireless internet is painfully slow (much faster and cheaper in internet cafes which you can find all over the city). The travel desk wasn't especially helpful as we were looking to find flights to Singapore and/or Malaysia. However, the free breakfast was delicious and plentiful. I don't think I've had such great coffee in years- I don't know their secret but it was delicious. The hotel also has a pool and fitness center which was really nice. Overall, I would think this should be no more than $80 but for a few nights, it wasn't so bad. Would recommend to anyone looking to stay a bit outside of the crazy tourist area (it's about a 10 minute walk) where it's still quiet.

Do not be deterred from visiting Kathmandu by this review. Kathmandu is beautiful and there is so much to see. Just avoid the Radisson. First off, when checked in with some co-workers, we were told that there was only one non-smoking room available, when we all requested non-smoking. We kept on them, and they gave us rooms on the "club floor". After being shown to my room, I looked around. The room smelled of roach spray. And I found 5-6 dead roaches under things...this was after I found the dead one on my floor. Several things were stolen out of my personal belongings. They included a hair clip, a razor, and a blank check that was left in a pocket of dirty jeans. Just really be aware of what you leave in the room. Other than that, Nepal is great....take the flight around Mt.Everest...it will not disappoint.

on my long tour from Darjiling through Bhadrapur, I reached Kathmandu alongwith my wife and a son on 23rd May 2008 to Radisson Hotel Kathmandu. In the Year 2006 I have stayed in the same Hotel. But now I noticed that, the hotel is loosing the sence of hospitality, perticualrly the restorant staff is more eager in not serving, moreever, is smart enugf to ignore you. the breakfast is of too less choice and the staff and the MANAGEMENT practically refuses to provide the items. They are keen in concluding the breakfast at 10.00 a.m. though the timing is upto 10.30.a.m. The management staff is enugh careless and arrgant to the customers. However other staff is very cooperative and friendly.

I stayed here in February, 2007. This hotel was not great, not bad.
I recall the room had two single beds instead of a king or queen, which always annoys me, although it's not uncommon in Asia. It's about a 20 minute walk from Thamel. The breakfast buffet was OK. I did not enter the adjoining casino.

This hotel is very well located near the royal palace and near the main touristic area. The hotel is supposed to be a 5 stars hotel but only for Nepalese standards. The rooms had a terrible smell and the bathrooms were just OK for a 5 stars.
We changed to the hyatt that is about 20 minutes outside the city center but that is much nicer.

Room service was terribly poor. Linen was poor and the matresses, uncomfortable.. Not to expect anything as raddison anywhere else. i stayed at room no. 518 from may 8th to 13th and since we had already paid for the hotel i couldn't change the hotel. In the end, a poor choice to stay.

The only thing going for this hotel is the name and the proximity to Thamel (15 mins walk). Otherwise, it's got below average written all over it. From the reception desk to the food to the rooms. The free wifi was a saving grace.

Bottom-line is that it is not worth the money it charges, but it is closer to Thamel than the Hyatt.

I spent five nights here, and from check-in to my departure, it was a very disappointing experience. Being part of an international chain, I had expectations of good service, food and comfort - however, on all of these counts, I was let down. If it had advertised itself as a 3-star hotel, and charged accordingly, it would have been OK. The staff were rather surly, and often the reception desk was hugely understaffed. On various issues where I had to deal with them, they never followed up with my requests. The hotel was run-down - inter-room phones didn't work, the lifts were incredibly slow and erratic, and everything was worn. The breakfast was average, and the staff indifferent. However, the location was good - 15 mins walk to Thamel. I would not stay here again.

This place was pretty bad. you are lucky if you end up with a newer renovated room but otherwise be prepared for gross dirty carpets and rooms that are about 40C in the fall. the staff is rude and they have no idea of what cusomter service is.

The hotel is a decent property, however do not try and compare it with the delhi radisson.

The room was nice and the breakfast good.

My advice avoid the Casino, even if you decide to venture don't expect a vegas or an atlantic city

Just not that impressive. Staff are nice enough but rooms simple and really not particularly worthy of the radisson title. Good value though.

Property not up to usual Radisson standards. Good location and friendly staff, however. Several restaurants and shops nearby, including an excellent Indian restaurant just down the street. Still, a nondescript hotel catering to tour groups. Elevators are small and slow. Limited breakfast selection. Get there early as they run out of food and don't bring more. One night was enough.

WARNING- we had $2700 stolen from our locked hotel safe...sounds impossible right...but hotel security refused to call police for us to file a claim, or even give us the police phone number for us to contact ourselves. We finally got the number from other people 5 hours later, and called the police who immediately came over. The police chief indicated that hotel staff had tampered with the evidence and made a mistake by not contacting them immediately. After the incident, we tried contacting the hotel manager who missed several appointments with us. Police and the US Consulate were very helpful, while the hotel could not have been more un hospitable. They indicated that the security manager and other workers were involved and probably split the stolen money. I am in the process of writing to hotel management in the US about this awful experience.

We chose this hotel over many other local hotels bc it was a "Western" chain that we recognized. Never again. DO NOT STAY HERE, and be careful!!!
