After searching for the perfect place for a small family gathering and place to stay, I saw the On the House Bed & Breakfast. I love the homey bedrooms with all the needed amenities. My fiancee and I stayed during the hottest month in India, and even in that August visit, we were comfortable. The staff is courteous, and went above and beyond our requsts, the owners are easy to communicate with for questions, and the place was incredibly delightful. I love the themes of the rooms, and it feels incredibly like India. The rooftop terrace has all the incredible details perfect for our needs! LOVE IT! Excited to return many many times in the future. The view out of the Pine room balcony is lush and GREEN! You're in the trees! (Bonus - I have been to Delhi many times, and the location of this B&B is a cleaner, greener, better Delhi then I have ever seen.)

It is a great place and very comfortable. We guys had to quickly check in and we came here but we did't know it would be so personable and enchanting. The staff is too good. I had to also do some official work so I wanted the Internet. I decided to go to a nearby place to look for a cyber cafe and then I was informed that the place has a WiFi facility... Oh. it was a rescue.. I comfortably sat and did my work which got finished in time and without much stress. The interiors are awesome and amazing! We stayed in Pine room. We shall again visit. Thanks a tonne for this lovely experience! Truly enjoyable and amazing!

Lovely place. The staff (Roger and his team) are very polite and do a fabulous job at ensuring guests are well taken care of. We had two adjacent rooms on the dining floor. The rooms themselves were well decorated with plently of space for our little ones to play around in. The rooms were tidied up everyday. The informal atmosphere of the place was comforting. This was the first time we were staying at a B&B and we were not disappointed. We look forward to staying there when we go to Delhi again. Thank you On The House for a pleasant experience.

We found On The House to be a very welcoming and comfortable place to stay. Arriving in Delhi at 5am was a bit of a bewildering experience but the guest house had arranged a transfer for me, and Roger was waiting with his umbrella to help me with my luggage up to my room. The staff here are so helpful, and we took advantage of the laundy service which is provided for free (ironing is extra but very cheap) and we had an evening meal in the guest house too. The rooms and communal areas are beautifully decorated and, even though the guest house is located in a fairly quiet area of Delhi, it is fairly easy to get around using the auto rickshaws.

We were very impressed by this B&B. The staff - particularly Roger, the general manager - really couldn't have been more helpful, but still managed not to be intrusive or overly attentive. The location is slightly out of town, but lovely and quiet in an upmarket residential area. We felt safe, well looked after and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

I'm really having to make myself write this review because its yet another secret that I would like to keep to myself! But that would not be fair. I love On the House and I will be staying there every time I go to India. If they are not fully booked! There is such a lovely vibe here and Roger, Ashish and Deepak, the guys that look after you, are simply fantastic. The rooms are adorable and you really feel at home. I'm missing it already. The homemade food is yummy and the roof terrace is colourful and cute. I could go on for ages about how much I love this place but I don't want it to get too popular or there might not be room for me!! Thankyou guys and see you soon x

Perfect place to stay while visiting Delhi...short or extended. The owner, Aradhna, has created a beautiful, comfortable, clean, and exceptionally organized bed and breakfast. She and her staff far exceeded our expectations. Food great. There was an interuption in our trip and Aradhna was able to accommodate us and re-route our travel plans without skipping a beat...we were off on our elephant safari in Jim Corbett National Park without any concerns. Highly recommend. Would not stay anywhere else in Delhi. Lovely, lovely place, owner, and staff!

I've actually stayed at On the House twice, once in the middle of summer and once in the middle of winter. The temperature inside my room was always ideal. Though I did not have an extensive budget, On the House was the nicest place I have stayed in India. From the wireless internet, to the tasty breakfasts, the laundry services, close by restaurant delivery, returning home to a clean room, and the kind house attendants, there wasn't a thing I would change about my experience.

There is a very royal feel to this place especially the intricate embellishments.

We stayed there for 2 weeks for business. The staffs (Ashish, Roger and Deepak) are all very friendly and great!! They tried their best to make our room as comfortable as possible to make it more like home for us. Roger speaks perfect English so there is no miscommunications and Ashish and Deepak both make great breakfast and dinner. They are all very hard working.
For vacations and to come here as tourists, I think this B&B would be a great choice. It is near the Hyatt Regency Hotel (so if you get bored with Indian food, you'll have a choice of going to Hyatt for Chinese, Italian or Japanese.) and also near some interesting local markets like Sarojini Nagar, Green Market or Hauz Khas Village.

I highly recommend On The House if you're seeking a quiet refuge in New Delhi. Beautiful decor, very helpful and friendly staff, and a short 'auto' ride into town (around 20 minutes). We stayed with our kids who, after days of site-seeing could finally take no more. My husband and I were able to leave the kids at On The House while we visited Red Fort and felt absolutely certain that they were in safe hands. Sure enough, when we returned home, they had been so busy playing with the staff that they'd barely noticed our absence.
The staff can arrange cars, day trips, home delivery meals (they only cater breakfast - although we requested a home cooked meal one evening which was delicious. Just be sure to order in the morning) and, it seems, a full child-sitting service!
Stay somewhere else at your peril! This place is great.

Friendly reception, helpful staff, comfortable rooms with good beds, and reasonable location. A very good value. Banks nearby and restaurants and shopping a short rickshaw ride away. The only problem was that rickshaw and taxi drivers seemed to have trouble finding the place, which was usually resolved with a phone call; be sure to have the phone number handy when you visit the first time.

I really enjoyed staying at the "On the House" guest house in New Delhi. It is located in a safe, enclosed neighborhood in a pretty central location. The free breakfast was great (the staff took my order and made whatever I wanted, including eggs) and the bedroom was clean and comfortable -- a great peaceful place in the heart of a very busy city. I enjoyed being able to "escape" the chaos. The wifi was excellent so I could get work done in my room at night.

The friendly staff were the best part! They taught me some words in Hindi and humored my many questions about India.

I spent two weeks at On the House and everything about my experience was positive. Even though the temperature and humidity were excruciatingly hot outside, my room stayed nice and cool. Half way through my trip, I got a very bad case of food poisoning. One of the workers kindly accompanied me to a local doctor, stayed with me through the visit, and then took me to the store to purchase medication. Two thumbs up!

At on the house we got to know other visitors and found much pleasure in that. Te men who worked there were so nice and sercviceminded. Last of all, the food were fantastic :-)

Me and fiance decided to take a trip to Delhi for a few days and for a change thought about trying a B&B. I read the reviews on trip advisor and decided to stay in On the House B&B. Firstly, the location is excellent. It is a residential complex and has security guard ( who was more than helpful with directions, luggage, etc) 24x7. There is a little shopping area with excellent coffee shops and food stores in around 10mins walk. I should mention the level of service provided by Roger was excellent as he made sure we had everything we need. I had to extend my stay by a day but the B&B did not have any rooms available as they were expecting another guest. By they exceeded my exception by booking a room for a night in a nearby hotel and also arranging a cab to take us there.
The New Delhi railway station is around 40mins away and the airport is around 1.15 hrs away during peak hours.
All in all, I would highly recommend this place if anyone is sick of staying in hotels and prefer a place which truly feels home away from home.

PS: The terrace is the best part of the house.

Great place to stay in case you want to avoid big and soulless hotels. Nicely decorated and clean rooms, nice and friendly staff who even will cook you a good meal if wanted. You're must likely to meet interesting and travel experienced individuals and, as there are only 5 rooms, certainly no noisy traveling groups. The "Enclave" is not really a posh area, but quiet and green and close to the main attractions.

I travelled to Delhi with my Mum and brother for a short break to celebrate Diwali. We decided to stay in a guest house, and chose to stay at On the House BB, as opposed to a hotel, as we wanted a homely atmosphere, yet still have the convinience of a hotel.
We were not disappointed during our stay. The rooms were spacious, bright and clean and staff looked after us very well. Breakfast, which was included in the price, was always plentiful and delicious, and we also had dinner as an extra, a couple of nights, which I highly recommend.
Altogether we had a wonderful time returning to Delhi and staying in this bed and breakfast made our trip all the more memorable. I will definitely choose this place to stay for the next time I'm in Delhi.

I have stayed here from mid September to mid December, 2010 and it became my home for that period. I would recommend this B&B without any reservations to everybody except to the physically challenged since it is on the 2nd and 3rd floor in a house which has no lift so one has to use staircase. Excellent quiet location with wonderful staff and owner.
Do let the staff know in advance when and what you would like to have for breakfast and they will try their best. I also had simple, fresh "home cooked" dinners to avoid eating out in restaurants with the in-built advantage that I could have my food less spicy (hot).

Except for the staircase and hence for the physically challenged, this is a gem in Delhi. The nearest metro stop is "Green Park" about 2km away.

I was traveling in India with my wife and 10 year old daughter in November. From the moment we entered On the House the chaos of Delhi subsided into a tastefully appointed B&B with clean rooms and bathrooms in a quiet Delhi neighborhood. One of the few times I have stayed in Delhi and did not need earplugs to sleep at night!

Raja, and the entire staff, took great care of us as we recovered from our flight the next morning. Starting with a wonderful breakfast served up to order and ending with a peaceful day in the living room with a newspaper. We traveled away from Delhi and returned two weeks later, late in the evening, and they were able to put together a wonderful on-the-fly dinner for us, including a cold Kingfisher!

We will be back next year!

Found this wonderful B&B while googling and was impressed by the excellent reviews. I stayed here for two nights, once a short overnight trip on route to another destination and the next night was for 1 1/2 days on the outbound.

the rooms are comfortable, very clean and the service from the housekeepers was excellent. It's like staying in your relative or friend's house.

I enjoyed the warm hospitality extended by Promod, the owner's father as I had the good fortune of staying in his home on the outbound trip.

As I had a car and a driver to move around and I did not intend to go into Central Delhi, the location was great as it avoided the heavy city traffic. It took only 30 minutes to get to the airport on a weekday evening.

Would recommend this wonderful B&B anytime.

We've stayed in many luxury hotels in Delhi... they're expensive and have a 'hotel fatigue' factor. We thought it would be a good idea to try out a bed and breakfast place. I was looking for suitable places in Delhi while my husband was already on his way there, and discovered 'On-the-house' on the internet... it looked great, and I immediately called to make a booking... fortunately they had a room available. My husband was a little skeptical, and I told him to call once he reached there. It came as a very pleasant surprise... he loved the place - it has been very tastefully done up by the owner, Mrs. Lanba, and the service is excellent. Since then, On-the-house has been our residence of choice everytime we're in Delhi. On our last visit, we went as a family with our 8 month old daughter... they took special care of her. We had a relaxed homely breakfast with the owner's father, Mr. Nanda. If you want to experience the best in hospitality, this is the place to go!

On The House was our first accommodation on our first trip to India and we were more than impressed. The B&B is located in a secure, quiet residential area in south Delhi, great for a good night's sleep and perfect for auto rickshaw fans. We thoroughly enjoyed seeing a bit more of Delhi while traveling to and from On The House to the city center, combined with the thrill-ride auto rickshaw experience. Those not looking for an adrenalin rush can, of course, take a taxi.

Our room (the Pine Room) was large, clean and very comfortable. We also had a balcony overlooking the neighborhood below. The entire facility is very cozy and inviting. It's like spending a weekend at your grandmother's big, cozy house. We especially enjoyed the delicious breakfast - Roger's masala omelette is fantastic - and found ourselves just hanging out in the dining area because it was so pleasant.

The entire staff of On The House is exceptional. They were all extremely accommodating, helpful, friendly and hospitable. We felt like no request would be refused and they had an answer or solution for every inquiry we had. On our first night at On The House, I accidentally injured my eye and needed immediate medical attention. On The House quickly organized this for me and I was even accompanied by a staff member, Ashish, who helped us get to a hospital, spoke to the doctors and stayed with us until I had been treated and we were safely back at the hotel. When we woke up the next morning, the hotel owner's father had organized an appointment for me with a private eye surgeon (who turned out to be the best eye surgeon in Delhi) just to make sure that the hospital had diagnosed and treated me properly. Since the surgeon knew the hotel owner and her father, he treated me "as a guest" at no charge.

I would have rated our experience at On The House as exceptionally good, even without the eye incident. On The House has really redefined hospitality for me and I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else in Delhi.

Many thanks to the entire On The House staff for making our visit so wonderful!

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about my review.

Hotel prices in the major cities of economically booming India have become absolutely outrageous. (In my experience, those in Mumbai, especially in the Juhu Beach/Airport area are the most unreasonable for the average tourist.) For Indian and foreign visitors to Delhi, a very welcome relief is the recent increase in the number of small guesthouses or B and B (bed and breakfast) establishments run by modest entrepreneurs.

It was my good fortune to find one of the best of these establishments for a recent extended stay in the capital city: On the House, in the South Delhi middle-class, ultra-secure, gated community of Safdarjung Enclave.

In its seven rooms, ‘On the House’ offers not only tastefully decorated peaceful rooms but also 24 hour service by a staff of 3. Nothing is too much for them, from breakfast, which is free, to room service and dinner if required (vegetarian or non-veg.) – all at very modest prices (tea or coffee, for example, costs 50 cents.) Also available are cheap laundry services, a reliable taxi service to nearby shopping malls or to the centre of Delhi – at $10 for 4 HOURS, or rickshaw rides for $1-$2 (for example to the nearby Hyatt Regency, for a splurge meal or to indulge in difficult to obtain wine). Recommended local centres are Khan Market (with money changer and excellent bookshop), Ansal Plaza, Sarojini Market and, for Indian and Asian crafts at bargain prices, the extensive market at Dilli Haat.

The level of personal service from Ashish and Roger is superb – and very friendly. No request fazes them, or the owner, Ms Aradhna Lanba, or ever-helpful Mr Nanda. Excursions to hill stations like Mussoorie or Simla, or to Rishikesh and Haridwar, or to Le Corbusier’s Chandigarh, can also be arranged with reliable travel agencies. If you have an extended stay in Delhi, as many visitors do, Ms Lanba will even arrange Hindi lessons from top professional teachers (but if you avail yourself of this extra fringe benefit, for the best results, please learn some basic structures and vocabulary before going to India).

The rooms, lounge and roof Gazebo of On the House are very tastefully decorated, giving an Indian and Asian environment. A further major advantage over costly hotels is that you actually meet and converse with an interesting variety of fellow guests, Indian and foreign. A selection of books, DVDs maps, and guidebooks is available to guests.

This is a very pleasant home from home, an oasis from the noise and dust and insecurity of the teeming streets of Delhi. The guestbook gives evidence that many guests return to On the House – or reside there for prolonged periods if working in Delhi. Advanced booking is therefore very necessary, and if you can afford the small extra charge, try to book the beautiful Gulmohar room or the Oak or Mulberry rooms.

I stayed at On the House for two nights while in New Delhi for business. It was a great alternative to a standard business hotel. The staff are incredibly friendly and supportive, the rooms are comfortable and cozy, and the food was great! The location is a little outside of the main city, but convenient to the airport and the staff was great about arranging transport within a few minutes to anywhere in the city. The wireless speed throughout the hotel was also great--the best I've found in any hotel in India. I would give On the House my highest recommendation for a nice alternative in New Delhi.

we are not able to say anything defintly about the homestay, because we haven't even seen it. we never made it to india - till now! We tried to catch a flight on 3 days in row, but never got a seat with our standby-tickets. So we kept on reservating a room at "on the house" always with different arriving times (really early in the morning or in the middle of the night). we expected everything, but not that the email contact with Aradhna was so friendly, helpful and she always wrote back immediately. the arrival time would never have been a problem. for example at 2am. she would have send us a driver to the airport to pick us up. and for all the hazard we made (reservation-changing/-canceling) they havn't charged us one cent.
if we ever make it to delhi we would definitaly stay with them!

I absolutely loved my stay at "On the House". I stayed there for 5 days, and loved every bit of it.

The rooms were really tastefully done up. Everything just belonged there. And made you feel like you belonged there too! The room was cleaned everyday, and was kept fresh. Loved the pine room I stayed out. Other rooms looked just as lovely.

Staff were excellent. Friendly, and almost all of them spoke good English. They were quiet, kept out of your way, yet were available when you needed them.

Breakfast was excellent. Made it even better when I found out they had something different to offer almost everyday. Tasted like home cooked food, was delicious. Did not order any other meals, but wouldn't have hesitated if I needed to order some.

As to the price, complete value for money! And central location. You are not far from anywhere here, I know because I used to live in delhi!

I am going back there in November. I don't think I will be staying anywhere else now, after this. If you are going to delhi, do yourself a favour and book yourself a room here!

The place is also not far from most attractions. The owner is also flexible about check-in and check out time.

Aradhna Lanba (owner of the guesthouse) had certainly spent a lot of time, effort and love in doing up the guest house. She is attention to details and the place is VERY clean!

We would certainly return and highly recommend this place to anyone! :)

My sister and I had a fantastic stay -- the English speaking staff was incredibly helpful taking care of our errands, arranging transportation, and pointing us in the right direction. They even took the time to teach us how to cook our favorite Indian dishes.

I highly recommend On the House for anyone traveling through New Delhi looking for a comfortable / western style accommodation.

I was planning on staying only 3 days but came back for another 4 due to the fantastic experience.

The room was absolutely gorgeous with every little detail kept in mind. The staff were courteous and ever helpful at any time of the day or night - thank you Roger and Ashish. They made the most amazing breakfasts and a new thing everyday. There is no time to feel bored or only here, because there was a bookcase with the most delightful reads and some board games as well. The gazebo on the terrace was the perfect place to catch up on reading or even snooze in the glorious winter sun! It was a riot of colour with a plethora of blooms. I will most definitely go back there and recommned it to all my friends. All you women travellers out there, 'On the House' is the place to live at in Delhi. This time we went with our baby and were hoping to have found a real cosy place when we booked "On the house" . The guest house is just the nicest place we have ever stayed at in Delhi. The price is accurate and the service is the best. Roger and Ashish with his little family make you feel at home. The location is very nice (South Delhi, Safdarjung Enclave), central and very quiet and safe, which is quite important in Delhi. The rooms are nicely decorated and kept very clean. The roof top terrace is the best!!! Real luxury in this big city - like a little oasis.

During our month long visit around India we stayed at On the House three times - on arrival, midway and just before departure. We cannot recommend it enough and felt very pleased and safe to be returning to familiarity each time. We own a small b&b in France and I have to say how jealous I am of Arudhna in having such wonderful staff. To be able to be confident enough to leave the running of this concern entirely in their hands is amazing. Roger, who speaks excellent English, couldn't have been more helpful and willingly saw us in on a very early arrival and then very early departure to get flights. Do not miss one of Ashish's curries in the evening. They were delicious, along with his breakfasts, which were copious and set us up for the day. Marsala omlettes are yum as well as some sort of spicy potato croquettes! The house has lots of personal touches and some areas do need a little updating, particularly the bathrooms but generally it was very comfortable, clean and quiet. We liked South Delhi and didn't find it much of problem to get a tuk tuk to the metro, which is excellent and clean so we could visit the other areas. Favourite places, Khan Market, Haus Khaz, Dilli Hat (all markets) and favourite restaurant, Park Baluchi in the Deer Park for the best Indian food ever. The surrounding enclave is safe and charming, particularly the little park opposite. There is a little noise but we are talking about India so the occasional firework is to be expected!! Good wifi access too but maybe a small printer available would be good to print off boarding passes just before a flight.

It had everything including picture frames, alarm clock, decorative curious, small side tables for the bed and ofcourse the larger ones like Sofa, Centre Table, Writing Table, Chairs, dressing table set. It did make me feel at home. The bath attached was comfortable, neat and well organised. Food- was undoubtedly enjoyable there, the caretakers asking for our choices to prepare and serve. It also did have my mothers (and my wife's also) special touch. The seperate dining table experience was a shift away which cannot be enjoyed in any hotel stay. Avaialbility of a Drawing Room to relax and stretch away from our bedroom needs a special mention.

% friends and I stayed, on and off, in On The House from Friday, Nov 12 to Saturday, Nov 27. We had the 2 rooms on the topmost floor (we had a small terrace all to ourselves!). The rooms were comfortable. The highlight, though, was the staff. Breakfast was one floor down in the common dining room. Ashish, the head cook, was ever ready to make us anything we wanted. He and Roger, the "main" man, bent even had breakfast waiting for us real early one morning when we had an early morning train to catch.

Laundry was free (ironing was extra) and our clothes were always waiting for us a day after we left them in our room hampers.

I would heartily recommend On The House if you are looking for a cozy little B&B in a quiet and safe locality in Delhi.

We've choosen this b&b because of the good review on Trip Advisor. All communication wenth via e-mail, very smoothly. The place is a nice old building in a secure neighbourhood. It has only 5 rooms with all amenities you need. Rooms are old but clean and with running hot water. The staff is very helpfull. We went with them to a Hindu festival just around the corner of the b&b. That was a nice experience, something we will always remember. Breakfast was enough but simple, ceareal, toast and eggs, coffee or thea and o.j. Only downside, there aren't many restaurants to go out for dinner. There's not much to do at night. But that wasn't a problem for us. If we ever go to New Delhi again we will stay at this place again.

Every morning, we were greeted with a hot cup of chai..and a smile :) They went above and beyond to make our stay memorable and comfortable. All in all, I definitely recommend this place. Thank you.

Some things to consider before booking:
Rooms that we stayed in were large enough for 2 adults only especially if you are visitors from overseas and have large suitcases do not squeeze in a third person. We asked for extra beds and realized that it was a tight squeeze.

This homestay is in a quiet part of New Delhi, away from the main road in the neighbourhood of South Delhi. The owner (whom I did not meet in person since she lives out of town) is an excellent communicator and was sure that her staff were ready for us when we arrived at 3 am. There is a 24 hour 'guard' or gateman who is friendly and competent. Though we had our own driver, the owner can provide airport pickup which is recommended. The room was nicely decorated and the manager, Roger, was very attentive to our needs. His English is very good and he was very helpful. He and his very pleasant helpers cooked for us excellent evening meals on request and the breakfast was tailored to our desire (eggs, toast). Unfortunately, for noise, we arrived on Diwali and the firecrackers went on for most of the nights. That, along with the street dogs who seemed to live below our window, we did not get a full night's sleep. It turned out that the dogs hang out in that corner of the neighbourhood. (Please note, though, that in Delhi, there are tons of wild street dogs who roam at night and bark at each other; there is little one can do to discourage them from an area once they have 'chosen' it as their home. We were disturbed regularly at night in a number of hotels across Rajisthan.)
Being a home, there is a beautifully decorated livingroom to use, but we were rarely there to use it. We paid the best room price of about 90$, which had us sleeping upstairs away from the kitchen and livingroom. The other two rooms are right beside the dining room and kitchen, and though guests and staff are quiet in the morning, I was glad we had more peace and privacy upstairs. There is also an outdoor patio to use for the two upstairs rooms. The bed was very comfortable. There was a small couch, but we had to ask for a small table so we could put our stuff down somewhere. The bathroom was our first 'Indian' bathroom experience, and it took awhile to heat up the water for a shower. This was the case except in the mildly fancier hotels we stayed in (for the same price) where the hot water was on all the time.
Overall, we were very happy to be in a home rather than a hotel for the 5 nights arriving in Delhi. We were expecting to be living within a family, though, instead of a small private hotel which it seemed more to be. I would have loved to have met the owner too, since she was so nice in her emails. However, having a certain privacy not being in a family home, had its benefits.
South Delhi is also a nicer area to stay than some other parts of town; I would recommend On the House if you are happy to spend a bit more money....equivalent to a nice Bed and Breakfast in Canada, so by Indian standards, it was expensive...an expense we were happy to pay to start our month journey in India, and because the three staff were very sweet and attentive. I was also very glad to be far away from the loud honking of traffic which is continuous in Delhi.
Since many do not travel with a laptop, it would have been nice to have access to a computer with highspeed in a small office somewhere in the house. There might have been wifi, but we had not computer. Roger, though, was happy to walk us to the local internet place.

We reached the premises we greeted by Ashish and Rogers who made our stay very comfortable. There is a flexibility of eating at lunch or dinner time. You could order things from outside and Ashish and Roger could serve you in the nice dining room.We could interact with other overseas guests which was very useful. The rooms are tastefully decorated and have all sorts of esential facilities. The shopping places like South Extension and Lajpat Nagar are 20 minutes drive.Taxies or scooter rickshaws are easily available on the main road. The main road is about 5 minutes from the premises where you can find nice eating places to every taste. There is Cafe Day where you can have nice coffee and cookies. The space is too small to write more. There is a Metro link coming up when completed the area will have easy access to various parts of Delhi.

I am a french national visiting India for the first time. This hotel was arranged for by my brother-in-law living in South of India. He went by simple internet search for B&B accommodation in Delhi. So when I arrived I had a lot of apprehensions. But from the airport to the hotel and departure -- it was a long memorable experience of sweetness and homely care that was a very pleasant surprise. Apart from the very homely ambiance, the neatness and cleanliness, food and the overall atmosphere, were quite exceptional. And I am writing to help and guide all those who would find it difficult to come by such a place in Delhi in the jungle of all others that crowd the internet as well as the other modes of reaching out to customers. Go straight for this place for your visit to Delhi: it is well placed and you are well looked after. I advise particularly for the European and American tourists.

On my first trip to Delhi, a friend recommended staying here. I made reservations by email, and also had them arrange for a car to meet me at the airport, drive for sight-seeing, and return to the airport after my stay. They also cooked dinner for me one night - a good vegetarian meal. My visit was very enjoyable.

A conference brought me to India, but visiting my niece Claire was the reason for my trip to Dehli. India can be intimidating to American tourists, and Delhi is a city unlike any I have ever visited. It is busy, competitive, crowded, and chaotic. There is much talk about the "first time visitor" and how they fare.

I was delighted with On the House. The room was clean, secure, comfortable, and cool ... that is air conditioned. On the House is in a middle class neighborhood, overlooking a small square. In Delhi there is hired security throughout - it is a fact of middle-class life. In this case the neighborhood is secure, and there is a security guard at the gate of the hotel. After a day of walking and autowallas, it is wonderful to walk into the neighborhood.

Inside On the House, the staff was courteous, available, and informative. Someone, met us even though we arrived at 2 AM. Breakfast was in dining room that felt like family. Good, healthy food - cooked breakfast, cereal, and tea steeped in milk. Always some fruit. First timers should ask for bottled water. English was a good language of transaction, but I had the luxury and delight of a Hindi speaking niece, which raised the level of information.

And one thing that I like ... when I travel too far, to new places, I like to know what is going to happen to me between the airport and my first night. The instructions on how to deal with Delhi, arriving at midnight, after 24 hours of flying were impeccable.

I would recommend the place, and I would go back. It is not high luxury ... it is solid, comfortable, and safe. I felt that staying in this neighborhood was important to my experience in Delhi.

due to the fact that the taxi driver had a very hard time finding the house, we arrived quite late; however, the staff at the guest house were most gracious. The two rooms we stayed in were clean and nicely decorated. We didn't spend much time at the house at all after we had eaten breakfast, but we did use their laundry service- quick and inexpensive. For anyone with limited mobility, be aware that the guest house is located on the 3rd or 4th floor of the building. Staff was very helpful- answering questions and arranging taxis.

A lovely guesthouse, with rooms individually decorated to high standards - like staying in someone's home... Everything is very well cared for - great effort is put into looking after the guests. Location not central, but easy to find. The kitchen prepares very good food, just have to ask in advance. A good choice if you're fed up of impersonal hotels..

More than a Bed&Breakfast ! Charming, oldy-worldy ambience with modern bathrooms. A personal feeling of being home away from home. Service of breakfast delightful and done with friendly charm. A leafy, charming environment. Pictures on website tell the truth - beautiful rooms. In Delhi: very good value. The property is on 4 floors but no lifts - if you have problems with a few stairs enquire about lower ground floors first.
I am a very frequent traveller to India; as such Ön the House is Reccommended highly. If you are looking for accommodation with character at an affordable price, it is On the House! I would stay there again - definitely.

This small guest house offered a retreat from the hectic life of Delhi on it's doorstep. I was working at Safdarjung Hospital which was only a 10 minute walk away. Local amenities were also within easy reach (a short walk or auto ride). Staff at the guest house were utterly fantastic! Anything I needed or wanted in my 5 week stay there they were able to source for me and there was always a friendly face at the end of a very long and tiring day. The food was of an excellent standard. I was always pleased to take suggestions of local delicacies from the staff whilst they still catered for my own personal tastes. Fitered water was supplied on demand. Laundry and cleaning was completed to a high standard. Internet access was acceptable but often lost due to frequent power cuts in Delhi. Rooms were spacious and well furnished and communal spaces offered an alternative respite to read or listen to music. I highly recommend this place to anyone who needs to stay in the area!

Stayed for 4 nights at On The House and was very satisfied with what we got. Price was very reasonable. Location in South Delhi in an upper middle class neighborhood about 10km from city centre. Trip from airport cost us about Rs250. Taxi had a little trouble finding the place so a sketch map on the website would help. We asked around when we got to B-4 area and found it. Very easy to catch an autorickshaw from the main road which is a 5 minute walk from OTH to go into the city or other places. We stayed in one night and got the staff to order in dinner, which was excellent. Morning breakfast is continental (eggs/toast/cornflakes) or you can get the aloo (potato) paratha. We spent a total of 8 days in India and we had the best aloo paratha at OTH. They can also make lunch and dinner for you if you want. The place has 7-8 rooms and a nice open-air terrace on the top floor. Over 100 cable channels in the room. The dining area and living room area is very tastefully decorated with the curios the owner has picked up on her travels we understand. The staff running the place are very courteous and helpful and we truly felt at home. You get free wi-fi all over the house. . We will surely stay at OTH during our next visit. Exceptional value for money.

We found the main staff to be very unprofessional and at times completely rude. The rooms were nice and clean with beautiful decor. The food was unexceptional. Only minimally helpful. Did not make for a pleasant holiday.

As far as I'm concerned, bed and breakfasts are a dime-a-dozen, especially in India/Delhi where many people convert their houses to low-service, low-cost guest houses. What should set them apart is how much you feel at home when you are there, and that is primarily affected by the relationship the staff has with you and the care the guest feels during their visit, but that's where On the House was at its worst.

The rooms were fine, the decor was ok and the service staff was mostly friendly and helpful. I say mostly because, due to my personal ethics, I don't take any animal products, but there was no concern for making sure there was something for me to eat for breakfast...so my "breakfast" was just dry cornflakes, toast and jam, fruit and black coffee (I don't really like coffee, so only had it one morning). There was no concern to make me something I could eat, even to buy soy milk for me to have with the cereal, or juice to have with the bread. Overall, no great value for me there, but not something particularly to complain about.

The main problem with On the House, however, was with the management. The owner only gets involved when taking your deposit to make reservations, otherwise has no contact with the guests, from my experience (3 nights). More than that though, there was a concern that I tried to express with management upon my leaving, which I felt was a very serious problem and about which I was particularly unhappy. The owner (clued into my problem by the staff already) first did not pick up my calls, then eventually her father picked up the phone. After hearing part of my complaint, he basically said that the problem was my own fault, and he rudely hung up the phone on me while I was talking!

There was no concern about my satisfaction as a customer, their relationship with me as a guest, or just being respectful as a fellow human being (unfortunately a trait of far too many Indian business owners, I've found). As long as I paid the full amount for my stay, he didn't care about anything I had to say. As far as I'm concerned, this is completely unacceptable in any business, let alone in a service industry and especially when not a big corporation but what is supposed to be a friendly-family-type, small business..a b&b no less! This is definitely not a business that should be supported, in my opinion. I've been living in India for three years now, and it's only by taking a stand against business owners who don't respect their customers that we can continue to have any improvement in the environment here.

If everything goes well, your stay should be fine at On the House, but, if you need to interact with the management for any reason, be prepared for disappointment and irritation. Because there are so many bed and breakfasts out there and there was nothing particularly noteworthy about this one to start out with AND given the behavior of the management and the way they care more about money than their guests, I think you would be better served to try out another one. Perhaps you'll have the good fortune to leave with a positive experience and relationship. I know that's what I'll be looking for next time...elsewhere.

Happy and safe travels.

I made a reservation with On The House a full THREE MONTHS before arriving in Delhi. At the airport we were met by the driver as arranged, on arrival at 'the' B&B, again I was welcomed by name. The rooms looked different to how I'd remembered them, and not as nice (I'd reserved a Super Deluxe room) but we were tired after the flight so pretty much crashed out soon after arriving.

Only the next day, when chatting to the owner did I realise that we weren't in On The House at all, but instead another B&B across the square. To say I was flabbergasted was an understatement.

OK though I thought, it's not as nice as we'd hoped for but it'll do for a 2/3 days. Later in the day I checked the website for the place we were staying in and found out it was 500 rupees cheaper so at least we'd have 3 x 500rps to spend on the trip.

Or so I thought. On departure, the B&B said that the rate was not that on their website but instead the rate to be charged was the rate that the other hotel (On The House) charged!

It then took around an hour to sort this out, with the 'other' B&B calling On The House and no progress being made so in the end I had to storm over to On The House and tell them that I wouldn't be paying their rate for NOT staying at their place! Finally 15 minutes later and it was sorted and agreed we'd pay the rate for the hotel we actually stayed in.

This has never happened to me before, firstly I was NEVER told of the switch of B&Bs, despite booking it 3 MONTHS before arrival and reserving a super deluxe room. And to top it all they wanted to charge me their rate for staying somewhere else. I used the analogy that if I'd have booked a 5 star hotel in the city and they'd have switched me to On The House then I would hardly have paid the 5 star rate but to be honest I was just wasting my time, they only gave in because I assured them I'd be paying the cheaper B&B rate for staying in the cheaper B&B, no more no less.

I've left it nearly 3 months after the incident before writing this review as I've just about calmed down sufficiently enough!
