I was in Mumbai for a conference in Mumbai 14-15th October 2011 At the Tat memorial hospital ,Mumbai.
This hotel is a great place to stay. I have stayed here on several occasions in the past and hence always look forward to my stay here.
The lobby is good.but the drive into it is crowded ,one feels hurried to get into and out of your car as loot of people are waiting in the small portico.
The checkin is always warm and quick. The guide to your room and the explanation of the facilities are welcome especially if you are new to this hotel.
The rooms are comfortable ,so is the bed.
The bathrooms are spacious ant well lit.The room service is prompt and courteous.
The minibar is well stocked.
I like the breakfast spread very much .The variety of fresh juices, milkshakes are tempting,so also the south indian idli, vada and the dosa varieties that one an order to taste.
The spread is so much that even just tasting all of them is not possible as you so full.
There is a very courteous south indian chef who take very good care of you.
The steaming coffee is one of the best I have tasted in a 5 star hotel.
The conference rooms are also very good including the acoustics, but the dining area in the front gets too crowded for my liking.
Overall I would recommend this place in Mumbai for your stay

The best thing I like about ITC-GC is the feeling of being at home. I am extremely comfortable there. People seem to be genuinely nice. My office is nearby and that makes it a preferable choice also. However, even if I am working somewhere else, I usually prefer to stay here cause its almost center of the town with Pheonix mall and blue-frog etc close-by too..
But what I really like is the hotel's care - be it sleep or waking up or food or the whole experience.. I really love this. I highly recommend the same for business travel, couples and families.. One must try its breakfast spread of which I am really big fan and specially the south Indian delicacies Anna serves.. Its yum!

If you need to be in Central Mumbai this property is very convenient and a nice sanctuary at the end of a hectic day. Very nice and attentive staff, clean and well appointed rooms, along with a gym and pool. Convenient to Phoenix Mills for shopping and dining. Hotel dining is expensive, but the breakfast buffet was included and is very nice.

A return visit for me, I was wowed the first time and was even more impressed this time. From the minute I arrived I was treated as the most important guest they had an exceptional welcome.
This is great location for central Mumbai, a bit of a way from the airport (can be at least an hours drive in the Mumbai traffic) but is ideal for my offices.
My room was superb on a high floor with fabulous views across the city. Its the little touches which also make this hotel so special and help make you feel comfortable away from home. My room was supplied with a "sleep tray; containing relaxing sleep mist, eye mask etc. You can chose different types of pillow and even ask for a change of mattress. But the ones I had meant I had the best sleep in ages. The nice china cups with lids, plenty complimentary bottled water etc. all add to a welcome feeling and its spotlessly clean.

Breakfast is superb with a big variety of choice and again that special service, everyone was so attentive.

The Kebab and Curry restaurant is one not to be missed the food is delicious, probably the best I've had in India again attentive, friendly service.
I cannot recommend this hotel enough, its now one of my favourites and I cant wait to go back.

A very different stay from near the airport hotels and near the Gateway hotels. It is in the heart of the city which has its own uniqueness. Easy access to downtown and easy access to get back up to the airport yet no major flyovers or busy streets. The rooms were amazing the beds were great. Enjoyed the food every night we stayed and had wonderful breakfast buffets which were different every day!! The overall experience was very good - great staff - very hospitable - and it was a pleasure to stay there - we genuinely felt sad to leave. Highly recommend a few nights here.

My wife and I stayed here for three nights at the beginning of our two week trip to India. We were in a very comfortable room with a cozy bed and an amazing view. Also, the front desk staff were very polite and helpful. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to be in central Mumbai. This hotel appears to be geared towards business clients but it didn't affect our stay at all. The only downside might be that there didn't appear to be too many restaurants or sites within walking distance.

I stayed here for a business trip to Mumbai, it was close to my office in Lower Parel. Hotel is nice, staff is friendly. Room is well equipped with all necessities.
I was expecting a bigger swimming pool though. The culinary break offer is worth availing. There were some confusions while booking and stay, but overall it was a good stay.

The lounge "Point of View" on the 30th floor is a quite good. This place is suppose to be open till 23.30 or midnight, I went there at about 22.45 but it was closed. The scary part was there was not a single light on, and the lift door closed behind me - so i was alone in the dark for about a minute until the lift doors opened again. Suggestion to the hotel - keep the lights on for 24hrs.

AHH!
I LOVE THIS HOTEL A LOT...
In terms of service, room quality and amenities, its second to none. the rooms are well appointed and offer good views over mumbai city. The view point from the 30th floor of the hotel makes for great viewing.

I was upgraded to the junior suite during my stay which entitled me to a sitting room, free internet, complimentary tea/coffee service and a massage chair!! However, internet in regular rooms is chargeable.

The breakfast buffet is adequate with a wide spread and the food at the restaurants is finger licking good. especially recommended is their famous 'dal makhani' from kebabs and curries.

this was my best travel.

The building maybe a little unusual and this hotel may not have the grandest of atriums but what a hotel. The staff are courteous, attentive and helpful at all times wether you eat in the restaurant at 2pm or 3am. The rooms are large, clean and very very comfortable, I loved the little touches like the extra scents left during their turn down service in the evenings. One morning during breakfast the General Manager even came up and introduced himself which I thought was very good. This may not be the Taj Mahal (where I have also stayed) but I actually prefer this hotel. I have stayed in nearly all of Mumbai's five star hotels over the past ten years and can say if you need to stay in south/central Mumbai look no further you won't find better.

I must say that on my first trip to Mumbai i was hesitant after hearing all sorts of horror stories, but the ITC Grand Cental was one of the best pleasures I had in Mumbai, and in a matter of fact my whole business trip.
I stayed in Shanghai, on Nathan Road, in Suzhou, Hong Kong at the Sheraton Kowloon and then finished off my three week trip at the ITC Grand Cental. Not only is it a well decorated hotel, but the pleasant atmosphere and very friendly people made it a wonderful heartwarming experience. I met Heer and hotel representative and she was absolutely wonderful, and very beautiful to look at. She made sure that my experience was great and made me want to come back to the hotel soon. She was very intelligent and seemed very sincere, not faky like a lot of hotels.
The restaurants are impeccable, with very clean atmosphere and ombiance as well as great food.
I slept like a baby, not hearing anything from any other room and slept the best in all of my hotel stays. Very clean room and the shower water pressure was great.
All in all when your are on a long business trip and want to stay at a place that treats you wonderfully and food and atmosphere was beyond compare this is the place to stay!!

ITC Grand Central is located in Parel. That's the area of Mumbai that is coming of age now. Previously known for its textile mills, Parel is now fast developing into an upscale residential area.
The hotel provides an excellent exit to Navi Mumbai, Belapur, Pune (just follow Baba Saheb Ambedkar Road through Dadar, Matunga, Chembur to the eastern express highway). For many years I stayed in hotels close to the international airport and used to curse myself every morning trying to reach the eastern express highway through Saki Naka and Powai. Saves me almost half an hour ever since I've started staying at ITC Grand Central Parel.
The hotel is characterized by a unique architectural design and the staff at the reception by their colorful mauve and violet saris worn in typical Gujarati style.
The rooms are good offering glimpses of that era of history when the area bustled with frenetic activity of the mill workers. The quaint mill names (Bharat Mata, United India, Laxmi Textile Mills...) leave a feeling of nostalgia when things were simple.
You can still see some chawls (the tenements where the mills workers lived).
The best part of the stay is the breakfast. I rate the breakfast at the ITC Grand Central the best in the world. Its not only the choice of food, but also the personal touch. You seldom see the Chef coming to your table and asking you if you would like something that's not on the buffet. Then there is staff that remembers how I like my tea (ready made Assam tea, bit strong, very little milk). I tell you - that kind of care and nourishment can guarantee that you are going to have a great day!!
Possibly, the only thing that I don't like too much is their key access system in the elevators. I prefer the ones that work on proximity (RFID type) and not the ones where you need to insert the key card into a slot.
Overall a great place to stay.

This was my first trip to India and, just in case, I wanted to stay at a hotel that offered a luxurious respite or, as others have put it, an oasis. I made the right choice with the ITC Grand Central. As a foreign traveler, Mumbai is like every cliche you've ever heard about India being thrown at you at once --now whether you like it, as I did, is a matter of personal preference. Still, given all the massive amount of humanity, energy and fascinating chaos going on --it's nice to know you have a place to go back to and recharge at night.

I actually chose the ITC in particular because I wanted to be a little closer to the airport than Colaba due to a flight I needed to catch later. As a location, the ITC Grand Central really isn't in a particularly notable location for tourists. For that you'd want to be near Colaba. Still, for my purposes it wasn't an issue. Getting to and from the airport took about 40 minutes (late at night) to just over an hour when we traveled.

The staff is professional and courteous. I was impressed by how friendly everyone was, especially in comparison to my previous stop in Dubai. Like all major hotels in Mumbai there is ample security in the wake of the 2008 attacks: you must go through a metal detector on your way in (though it isn't as bad as the airport). The hotel is apparently one of the tallest, if not they tallest in India, though it isn't particularly tall as compared to other cities. The hotel has a nice garden area and banquet section that's popular with upscale weddings and events. I am pleased to say the on-site restaurants are excellent. We were pleasantly surprised to see that the "Kebabs & Kurries" restaurant won the venerable Times of India's 2010 award for "Best Indian Food". While pricey, we were very impressed with the food and service (and the atmosphere is not stuffy).

The room was a very good luxury room with a solid bath and plenty of complimentary water (needless to say, don't drink from the tap!). All the furniture and decorations were tasteful and modern. Only two negatives: They charge for wifi (so they're behind the international trend) and the room freshener that housekeeping uses has a very institutional smell (I think this is intentional to let you know that they cleaned it, but I wish it were different) --thankfully it goes away. There is a nice club room at the top of the building, but you need to be staying in a certain room type to enjoy the free food. With that said, the staff up there is fine with you if you'd like to take photographs from the large balconies on either side (nice views of Mumbai, though no particular landmarks in view). The hotel has a pool and work-out facility as well.

Overall I recommend this hotel as a very nice "all in one" stop to come back to when you visit Mumbai.

Fun fact: ITC used to stand for India Tobacco Company, which still owns the hotel chain which is now an affiliate of SPG.

We love Sheraton hotels. It doesn't matter where it is in the world, they always offer great accommodation and service. The ITC Grand Central in Mumbai was no exception. The hotel is located so close to the centre of Mumbai (which is manic) and yet it was set in a peaceful location within the madding crowd. You wouldn't have known that chaos was just around the corner.

The hotel was beautiful without being too glitzy. The staff and the service were excellent. The food was great and the bed (as in all Sheraton hotels) was to die for. The Wi-Fi internet was available in our room and in most other locations within the hotel. The high speed option was a very good speed, easy to set up and not overly expensive. In other hotels we have stayed in whist in India we found the Wi-Fi much more expensive than the ITC's and much more difficult to set up or there was only Wi-Fi in the business centers.

As a Starwood member, I usually try to stay at their properties wherever I travel. This time it was the Grand Central for 2 nights (14-16 February). Everything about a Starwood or ITC name lives upto it's reputation here again - excellent delivery of service and standards. I was, as usual, upgraded to a standard suitewith a decent view on a high floor...

As I had a few meetings in Bombay during the 2 days, I never got the chance to try out their great restaurants.

The concierge was able to get me the services of a guide to get me to a difficult location (for photography) at 5 in the morning - many others had declined the call.

The only downside about this property is the location - in the middle of 'nowhere' and 'everywhere' - so if you're looking for a quick stroll into the immediate neighbourhood, I'd think hard again. I kept a car to keep mobility (and avoid local taxis). Also, bewarned that there are no shops in the hotel in case you're looking for last minute shopping.

Overall, I paid a premuim price for the stay as it was also high season, and other comparable hotels were no less forgiving.

Mumbai is a reallly busy place, so you need to choose carefully where you stay, otherwise you might end up sleeping in those famous cabs rather than in your hotel room :) Sometimes you might also want to sacrifice 15-20 minutes of your day (that you will spend extra with travelling) for the sake of a nice hotel you can stay at. I believe this is really a hotel that worth the scarifice.

It has a great atmosphere, great rooms, where you can enjoy the sunrise or sunset laying back on those sofas right next to the windows.

Pool is great, restaurants are great, and you can alos enjoy quite a variety of local restaurants in the surrounding area.

If distance to your meeting is not too great or you are just visitng the town this is a great place to stay.

Stayed here for 5 nights over the New Year period.

Very good hotel, very comfortable and clean.

The rooms are quite large with large bathrooms. The only negative is that the shower is over the bath. Even with the bathmat I did take a little slide when getting in.

The rooms are quiet with no noise from other rooms or outside.

The hotel is not really close to any of the sights of Mumbai and a car was needed to go to most locations. Quite a large local market lines the streets nearby (avoid the chicken area!).

The staff are excellent and go out of their way to make the stay comfortable and nothing was too much trouble. I had to get an extra room (due to room-mates snoring) and the valet on my new floor made such wonderful towel sculpture on the bed! Thankyou Mr Bhim.

The hotel has a building site on one side. No noise but an eyesore. Avoid rooms like 1702 - it seems to be on that side of the hotel. My new room at 1810 had a much better view.

Used room service and the meals were quick and quite large. Lots of free bottled water. The restuarants are good and we enjoyed the special NY banquet.

The pool is quite large and clean.

This hotel is specially made for business meetings there are separate lounge for everything. Every age is welcomed as there are proper arrangements for kids too. We really enjoyed and recommended the hotel for our company meetings. The hotel's lavish facilities are set inside a gated, guarded compound. Once inside, I was warmly greeted, checked-in and escorted to my beautiful room with some nice artwork and a fresh flower bouquet. Ever member of the staff with whom I came in contact was extremely professional and, in many cases, went out of their way to ensure my stay was at its best. They arranged a personal tour and driver; one staff member arranged for a friend to show me Mumbai's hotspots (free); and I have to give credit to the hotel manager, who worked diligently with Mumbai's police when I was scammed by cab drivers who charged an exorbitant amount of money (for what the usual fee is), and help recover 100% of my money.

The staff have surprised me on multiple occasions but remembering not just my name, but also my preferences. The complimentary hot milk-based beverage at bedtime is a nice bonus, especially if one is travelling with children.

The location is a slight drawback as it is halfway downtown and can take time to get to from some of the main commercial and industrial areas. Also, there is no night life or quality dining places within walking distance. Still, I would go back there again just to taste Chef Rajan's South Indian culinary innovations in the Coffee Shop.

I loved every small detail in this hotel: small bottles to relieve stress, even tissue of dreams to help one to have beautiful dreams and option to choose matress. My colleague got a room in women's floor where she had all kind of cosmetics available in her bathroom. We also had access to lounge and complimentary drinks and totally loved it. And one the other colleague who is lactose intolerant (just imagine how that is hard in India) saw an ad "Ask us of components if you're allergic to any ingredients" in breakfast area, we voted it's best hotel. And all different food available there was loving! It's even possible to get take away bags for amazing bakery.
I also loved smiling personnel in spa/swimming pool area.
What's most important we had manager meeting us and inquiring how we're doing. It wasn't just 5 min chat, once we spent about 30 min and learned so many things about India and parsis and other interesting stuff about Mumbai.. I'm somehow sure that without ITC my Mumbai experience wouldn't be that nice.

Downside: Swimming pool could be larger. And kids' swimming pool was dirty because of birds flying around..

Mumbai is not a tourist city and can come as an assualt to your senses- the Grand Central is an oasis of calm, good service and good food to retreat to and recharge you batteries until you go back out to explore the city. Mumbai is a heaving mass of friendly humanity that is in constant motion as it goes about its business. Poverty is everywhere and it seems that every buidling is in a state of disrepair and this includes the hotel surroundings. All of this adds to the contrast of Grand Central to the city outside. The staff are excellent just as we found later at the ITC in Dehli. The food in the Kebabs and Kurries was excellent and was the high point of the hotel and probably the best meal we had in India- better than the highly rated Bukhara in Dehli and Khyber in Mumbai (which are good!). The Dublin has a good pub atmoshpere again added to by the attentive staff who really do want to do a good job. However, as with most Indian pubs/restaurants, ignore the draft beer list, it is fictional as most dont even have draft taps- odd! The buffet restaurant although highly touted in the hotel web site is good as opposed to great and expensive while the bar on the first floor has a relaxed atmosphere added to by the service of the staff. The rooms are good, well appointed and clean. So a lovely hotel that I would recommend though most people consider not Mumbai as a tourist location.

I stayed in ITC Grand Central with my 16 year old son for 5 nights and we have experienced many aspects of this excellent hotel. The location is obviously not South Mumbai, but cool cabs or the hotel limousine will bring you anywhere you want for reasonable prices. The staff at the front desk was helpful and friendly and every time it was a pleasure to meet the door man and his colleagues!
We found the breakfast buffet overwhelmingly good, from Indian food, to sweet, to eggs, it's all there. We have had dinner in the "Curry&Kebabs" restaurant and highly recommend it. The waiters are smiling and friendly and eager to help you make a choice. We also recommend the sauna/spa area and the gym, where staff is also friendly.
I agree with other reviewers that the internet login was not easy. With an ethernet cable into my laptop it all worked well, but I have never managed to connect through wifi. The instructions are just not clear enough (although it was not important enough for us to ask for assistance). I have much better experiences with systems that use the typical username/password that you buy for a certain amount of time.
Our room was very clean, housekeeping was fast and very precise. The essential oils and chocolates were a nice extra. Complimentary bottled water was always available.
Just an excellent hotel with not much left to be desired!

I stayed at the ITC Grand Central on business. It is a great business hotel - with excellent facilities. The rooms are spacious with all the facilities that a business traveller would want. The conference facilities are very convenient. The rooftop garden terrace is a great place to wind down after a hard day's work. The location could have been better, but in Central Mumbai you cant really complain.

I don't think I've ever been treated so well in a hotel from the moment I arrived until the moment I left, I just wish I could have spent longer there. On check-in I was upgraded to an amazing room. It's the little touches that make this hotel: the almonds, the chocolates, the essential oil pillow sprays, the eye mask, the bottled water, the ear plugs etc. Comfiest pillows I have ever slept on, bar none.

Only negative was the internet - I use an iPad which couldn't connect because you need to log in in your room with the ethernet cable before the wifi works. It's not cheap either, but maybe I was spoiled by free wifi in the other Indian hotels I stayed in.

Didn't really eat at the hotel but did order drinks throughout the day at a focus group and everything was beautifully presented - coffee was served with a water shot (to cleanse the palate) and chocolates.

Staff were amazingly helpful, organising late checkouts and airport transfers for us.

Great hotel to escape the madness of the city buzzing around you. Admittedly the location could be a bit better (say Nariman Point) but it is still central Mumbai.

The hotel is neo colonial style with plush rooms. The carpets are simply stunning and just beg to be walked on with bare feet. The beds are amazing. They leave you aromatic oils to perfume your bed for a better sleep every evening and even have the possibility of ordering a bedtime cup of hot chocolate.

Staff are amazing, helpful and just perfect. I would recommend you take day trips with their drivers. They are a good bargain plus the drivers are very knowledgeable of the city so they will help you see places where you would not normally go to.

I would go to this hotel again next time I am in Mumbai.

I chose this hotel for a nights stay recently on a work trip to Mumbai. It was a friends recommendation and i must say, it was totally spot on. Except for the slightly constricted entrance area (narrow drive through than most hotels), which is probably due to its being so centrally located, once you're in , the hotel is cozy yet plush, quiet yet comfortable. After a pretty efficient check-in, we were escorted to our respective rooms by the front desk manager who was courteous and helpful. The room was cozy but spacious enough with a grand view of central Mumbai. There's a lovely sitting area beside the window where one can relax and watch the skyline. But its the other little details about the room that you feel pleased about. Its all THERE. Whatever you need is already there and that's the best part. You can check in and be totally self sufficient.
I was really happy with my stay and would surely recommend this very centrally located hotel - for staying close to the best nightspots and yet not insanely far from either side of town. Choose the ITC Grand Central the next time - you'll both be central as well as have a grand stay :)

I have a soft corner for ITC hotels and like staying in them. The service and food are always impeccable. Hence this also means I have high expectations from them. ITC Grand Central has lived upto my expectations and even exceeded them. The hotel is built on a very small property but makes very good use of it with its vertical expansion. The location was very helpful to me as my office is in Parel itself.
Rooms are a bit smaller compared to usual 5 star rooms I get to see. However, its not uncomfortable. Service is good.
The food is the reason I really loved it. Kebab and Kurries is now my favorite restaurant. The Chinese fare was also decent.
Given that I was out most of the time and used hotel mainly for sleep, the sleep quality was quite peaceful.
The default toiletries might not cut the mark but good change is provided for when requested.
All in all, a very satisfying stay.

The rooms are as spacious as it gets in mumbai with exquisite interiors. The plus points are service levels and food.
The breakfast is the best I have ever had in any hotel. Plus the restaurants serve excellent food. The food is a wee bit expensive but worth every bit of it in terms of quality
The hotels also provides for a range of pillows (some 7 or 8 types)

I Have checked into this hotel two days back and am still there so I think everybody can understand how happy I am with this hotel to show my eagerness to write the review.

The Hotel staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful. The chefs during breakfast were so pleasant to talk to and they were continuously walking around the tables asking how everything was and asking if you wanted anything special cooked. I mentioned to them that I had a health problem which restricted some foods and they said that anytime I need anything special just call for us from the room and let us know what you want cooked. Every single person is so friendly and goes out of their way to help and make you feel comfortable. My daughter was admiring a pair of goldfish in the lobby and the welcom concierge sends a pair of goldfish to the room with a framed message. The level of personal attention is exceptional. The staff think of everything. We just got back to the room from having dinner in the Kebabs and Curries restaurant in the hotel and the food was excellent. I would strongly recommend this hotel to everybody and especially if you have children since the entire hotel from the entrance where the cars come upto the housekeeping and maintenance staff are very friendly and give you a feeling that you are at home.

What a great hotel! I would definitely go back if I had the chance. Couldn't have been in better hands than in those of the Concierge's team for the tracking of my lost luggage. What could have been a really bad way to start my first trip to India came out as a positive experience thanks to them. And I am so grateful to them for having met with my last minute request for a bouquet of flowers I wanted to give to a friend's mother who kindly invited me home for breakfast. Rest of the staff was also excellent! Being a solo traveller, I felt very safe in this charming area. Could shop in boutiques which were not tourist traps, could walk and feel the real life of Bombay, just short drives from the touristic area and the lovely suburbs. Quality of the food was beyond my expectations. Same for the comfort and luxury of the hotel in general. Wonderful stay! Ever since my return I keep referring this hotel to my friends so I thought I should share my satisfaction on this website!

I was there for 5 nights recently and was delighted with the choice of hotel. Stayed on the 24th floor and although the room wasn't huge it was spacious enough with a walk in shower and bath tub. AC unit was quiet although you could hear some noise from street level at night. All staff members were courteous and polite and also provided me with items that I had forgot to pack.
The one disdvantage is that there is a lot of traffic around this area with the building of a flyover narrowing the main throughput into other areas of Mumbai. Once built hopefully the endless traffic will improve.

As with all ITC hotels we've stayed at, the decor, accommodations, and service are top notch. There is always a large contingent of security personnel at the entrance to ensure your safety, but they are always friendly and eager to assist.
Our rooms were on par with other 4 star hotels and the amenities (those that are free) are always of the highest caliber. The only thing is that their a la carte restaurants and business center are extremely overpriced. We ate at their regular restaurant on several occasions and the buffets are good value for the quality and diversity of food. We also ate at their "Kabobs" restauarant and the food is only on par with good Indian cuisine in our home city of Toronto (but 2.5X the price!).
Overall a great experience, especially if you can get a discount somehow.

Arrived around midnight to find that out of our three prepaid, reserved rooms, all were lost and unavailable. The staff could not understand, even after reviewing our paperwork, that we had already paid for the rooms. We were told the entire hotel was booked solid except for two rooms, so we took those, one being a very nice suite.

The room itself was amazing; two bathrooms, lots of extra amenities, free chocolates and cookies, bottles of water everywhere, even a massage chair in the bedroom. Two huge flat screen tvs, everything incredibly clean. Even though it was marked as a smoking room, I didn't notice any smells. There were health supplements in little glasses for you, too. Towels were super fluffy, exercise equipment in the huge walk-in closet, hardwood or marble tile floors, even a small library of fiction books.

We didn't get much from the hotel even though our reservation was so wrong; I didn't even get breakfast included. Additionally, the business center was extremely expensive and hidden down what appeared to be an industrial hallway.

Location didn't seem to be within walking distance of anything, but it was hard to get a feel for the layout of the city. You'd have to take a taxi anywhere regardless, so it wasn't really out of the way.

Overall, very fancy hotel that only somewhat made up for such a bad reservation process.

ITC Grand Central is a luxury hotel from ITC Welcomgroup. Fully deserving of its 5-star rating, it is located in Parel (near Lalbaug, Mumbai). Location is not too convenient either to city or to business complexes in Andheri/Kurla but if you have business all over thecity this is quite centrally located.

I visited with 2 kids - hotel was quite friendly to them but is truly focused on the business traveler. Facilities are superb and service is good. We loved the buffet breakfasts- the variety was fantastic. You name it - they had it. Rooms are good - a tad small for a family although the day bed (very nicely done) was a good resting spot for our 8-year old daughter.

The shopping mall High Street Phoneix is in the area but a bit too distant to (15 mins and the traffic in Mumbai is bad) be really conveniently located. A new mall seems to be coming up nearby (within walking distance).

A luxury hotel true to its name and very nice service. The swiiming pool and the gym were both very nice and fully equipped.

The room was great, small but very tastefully decorated. During reservation, I had placed a lot of requests like
1. Cake and drinks for my finacee as a special welcome.
2. Extra pillows
3. Quite zone room
4. Higher floor

and to my surprise each of them were fulfilled without any problem. I even requested them to arrange for a half day city tour, and the person at reservation arranged a very well planned trip, and was even kind enough to offer that on a complimentary basis. This was really a great experience.

The cafe was great for food, and we had all our meals there. It offered pretty wide variety and tasted pretty good.

The hotel sent a car to pick us up at the airport which was great and destressed the arrival (glossing over the fact that it wasn't waiting for us as someone else had blagged it). It's quite a long way from the airport - about an hour in the car - and there's nowhere of interest within walking distance of the hotel either.

The hotel itself is very comfortable (and very pricey), with an extremely comfortable bed and good other facilities (large screen TV, Internet access etc). I stayed on a Ladies-only floor which was a nice touch. There are people asking if you need anything every time you turn around which gets a bit wearing after a while.

Only ate breakfast at the hotel which was very good, with a wide selection. There are a couple of bars which are rather soulless.

We arranged a driver for a day to show us the sites, and he was excellent. My only complaint was the visit to the local "cottage industry" where we felt obliged to pay rather over the odds for souvenirs, but you get the feeling this is how things works here.

There are some large buildings going up around the hotel which rather spoils the view, and there are some people living rough nearby, but then you kind of get to expect that in India.

I'd definitely recommend this hotel, especially if someone else is paying!

I stayed there for 4 nights on a Business trip around beginning of Feb, 08. We had the airport pick organized which I would highly recommend since it makes the commute from airport to the hotel efficient, smooth and well worth the extra bucks rather than handling the challaneging mumbai cab drivers. The check in went fine and smooth, was greeted by well trained staffs during the whole course of our stay.

The room itself was spacious, comfortable and with very good amnetities. The work table was comfortable to get some work done. The one thing that stood out from the room will be the comfy heavenly bed they had.

Free drinks & snacks are served in lounge every day which was handy, if you are staying in club floor or if you are a Amex Platinum holder, you get access to the club lounge on the top floor which has a incredible view of the city and decorated beautifully.

Breakfast served well balanced cuisine and scrumptious. Highly recommend their restuarant which serves good kebabs.

The few things which I would put on the downside of this hotel is Location, in the crazy traffic city of mumbai, the location of this hotel is not ideal for business travellers, you gotta give yourself 1-2 hrs commute time for most business districts and they can definetely do with a well maintained pool.

I traveled to Mumbai because my 17yr old son who was visiting a school friend became ill and ended up having his appendix removed. Our friends booked the room for us at the ITC for several days between hospital discharge and getting clearence to travel home. Upon checking in we were completely taken care of. The staff check with us every morning to see if there was anything we needed, they sent out and got some meds my son needed, Chef Karam took special intrest in my son and fixed dishes for him to help him gain strength. The management even arranged for him to be able to use the piano in the club early in the morning to practice his music.

The rooms were spacious (we were in the tower), spotless with a beautiful bathroom. After living in a hospital for more than a week, we were able to relax and recover. The hotel arranged a 4hr tour of the city, so that I could at least see some of the sights since I had travel all the way to India.

As we were leaving the hotel for the airport one of the front desk staff who constanly check on us during the stay gave my son a bundle of flowers and a chocolate cake because his birthday was at midnight as we would be taking off from the airport.

This hotel made a relaxing end to a trip that was very stressful for myself and my son. If we ever return to Mumbai we will stay again at this property.

Basically if the ITC were located a couple of miles further south, it would be rated as one of the finest in Mumbai. It is a true 5 star hotel, with nice new facilities, good restarurants (especially "K&K" which the locals rate as one of the best Indians in town) and fantastic staff.

However, it is in a pretty isolated location, with no other hotels or tourist attractions at all nearby. If you are staying with the intention of visiting Colaba or the surrounding area, be aware though that due to the sheer volume of Mumbai's rush-hour traffic, it takes about an hour in a cab to get there (even though its only a few miles). Having said that, cabs are very cheap (USD3 for a local cab or 5 for a hotel car), so its more the time than the cost.

Small pool, so not a hotel you'd particularly want to lounge around in, but if you want to stay in an area of Mumbai which gives you a little more of an authentic experience than the touristy Colaba hotels, this is it. Would perhaps stay there again, but would probably be tempted by the Taj Mahal, Oberoi or Intercontinental Marine Drive for sheer location next time.

This is a new hotel that just opened over the past year or so. The rooms are spacious, and very nicely furnished with extremely comfortable beds. The bathrooms are sort of small, with a tub/shower combination but they are nicely finished in marble and wood. The service is very friendly.

The Indian restaurant is quite good, and they have a good breakfast buffet with both western food and Indian choices too.

My only real complaint about the hotel is that it has only a small gym and a very small indoor pool. If you are looking for resort-like facilities, this is not a good choice. I mostly chose this hotel for its location, but it compares favorably to other hotels in Mumbai in this price range. I would definitely stay again on my next trip.

Be simple......straight and kind to enter the hotel...it has a nice and simple lobby.....combined with excellnet greeting staff...you feel charged the moment u step into the hotel...

rooms are good.....previously there was difficulty in accessing the card in the elevator but last week when I was there they have already changed to a new system which is more security tight and efficient.....

They have a very good executive lounge with a fantastic view of the glamour city of India. The only problem I find is the access card, where it should disucssed during check-in if the access to executive lounge is required that will save the time of executive to come down and ask for a special card for the executive lounge.

the breakfast buffet is a great spread and anyone can eat to their hearts fill. The view from the 30th floor viw point is to be seen to take in the bustling mumbai city. A perfect relaxation point after a days of hard work.

This stay of mine at Grand Central is after a gap of almost three years. In between I patronized ITC Maratha a little older ITC property in the city, close to the international airport. As a ITC hotel guest one always expects a lot of freebies in terms of evening lounging, laundry, etc not to talk of responsible hospitality and luxury of space. At Grand Central, rooms are well appointed with excellent view of the residential towers in the neighborhood. The property can also boast of its top class eateries. As a Tower Floor guest one has the access to the lounge called Point of View on topmost floor of the hotel. I find the place simply irresistible because of the view and the happy hour treatment. However, this time it was a letdown. Drinks served to premium guests were regular ones. Very shocking! Other ITC outlets including Maratha do maintain the standard in their club lounges patronized by Tower or ITC One guests. I may go back to the hotel for its location, food, choice of pillows and of course quiet ambience.

Any ITC property is always an excellent place to stay. Grand Central is special in numerous ways. The location (Parel, BR Ambedkar Marg) is very good being close to the Airport as well as the tony areas like Bandra, Colaba. Also the club Blue Frog, mall Palladium and the Comedy Store are located close by.

Rooms are extremely luxurious and are well appointed with comfortable furniture. The tariff is high but then 5 star luxury comes at a cost. The staff is though not as good as in a Taj hotel.

A good hotel tho probably not amongst the best of the ITC hotels in India.

It is strategically located - about 45 mins from the airport and around the same distance away from Mumbai's downtown. The hotel is well connected one on of Mumbai's arterial roads that leads to South Mumbai.

I found the staff and service satisfactory - that is common in most ITC hotels. The rooms are not as impressive as the other/larger ITC hotels but are well equipped and maintained.

Room service is good but i would have liked a more exhaustive Indian cuisine!

Definitely a hotel worth staying in - whether on work or pleasure.

No complaints about the product in general - rooms, service, etc all up to the usual ITC standard (I spend a lot of time in India and am more or less a permanenet resident at the ITC Sonar in Kolkata). Location's not bad either but in Mumbai this is entirely subjective. However I'm not sure I'll be coming back to the Grand Central as on both of my stays this year the staff have made serious errors when charging my credit card.

On my first stay, sometime around March, upon check-out instead of taking payment against the pre-authorisation taken on check-in, they made an entirely new transaction, meaning the original pre-authorised amount was blocked on my card for a month after my stay.

On my second stay, just last week, The check-in staff took an actual payment of Rs 50,000 (over £700) instead of a pre-authorisation. I was only made aware of this a day or two into my stay when a duty manager approached me to explain the error and request that I sign off on the transaction, with whatever unused amount at the end of my stay to be refunded to my card. I probably agreed to this a bit too easily but mistakes do happen and this seemed the most practical solution (though I was a bit taken aback by how blase the staff was about this - the duty manager herself was quite apologetic but when I confronted the guy who actually made the error he didn't seem to appreciate that Rs 50,000 is rather a lot to take from someone's card - ITC must pay these guys extremely well)

In any case my bill for the four nights came to around Rs 43K and I was assured upon check-out by the same lady (Vrushali) that she would personally oversee the refund of the balance and send me an e-mail within a day to confirm. It's now a week later - I've yet to hear anything from the hotel, and I'll have to wait another few weeks to see if a refund was ever processed. Life's too short for me to have to worry about these things when at supposedly reputable chains, so I'll likely stay at an alternative on my next visit.

Oh, and as an added annoyance, despite unwillingly prepaying and overpaying for my stay, my SPG points have yet to be credited.

Nice place to stay. Its convenient if work needs you be in and around lower parel area. the hotel is very nice, good rooms and an amazing staff. check is smooth and the staff is courteous. you feel very much at home here. The rack rates is between 10 - 14 per night and you would pay a little lesser depending on the long term deal your company has. The food is very good. The lounge servers on the house drinks between 6pm to 8pm every day if you are staying in the towers section. breaskfast is good and among the best you would get in any hotel in mumbai. the kebab resturant is brillant and a must visit. they also have a resturant on the top floor which is worth a visit for sure. over all brillant experience.

Have stayed at this hotel multiple times for business, and have no reason not to return.
First the pros: Very central location - usually under an hour from both the airport and South Mumbai offices. Rooms are great - the view towards Southern and Eastern sides is particularly nice if you are on a higher floor. The restaurant selection at the hotel is quite decent, especially for business meetings. The FF programs of both Starwood and ITC are great, and you can choose which one you want to assign your stay to.
On the flip side, the service can be slow at times - especially in the coffee shop and the main breakfast restaurant at peak hours. Overall service at the hotel is quite pleasant though.

Spent four nights at the ITC Grand Central a couple of weeks ago. It's a great combination of history and modernity. Even though the building is probably ~100 years old, it has been done well from inside. The room interiors are contemporary, with facilities like LCD TVs and transparent basins in the bathroom (apart from the standard features/facilities). However, it's the great paintings and some old posters related to the hotel and city's history that are put up on the room walls and isles, that leave a great impression. Toiletries are great, so are the complementary chocolates that they serve in the rooms. Room service menu is one of the more exhaustive menus I have come across, I ordered room service on most occasions, experimenting with multiple cuisines and found the food enjoyable on all occasions. However, I found their Chinese restaurant a bit overrated. I don't mind paying for good food. but this was not mouth watering stuff, so I would call it expensive.
Found the staff courteous and helpful. All in all, it was a good stay.

I stayed here for one night as this was closest to my client location in Parel. I'd heard good things about this hotel, and I was not disappointed. Its a superb property, with a very reasonable price tag. You get a royal feeling once you enter the lobby; super courteous staff who would engage in a friendly conversation while they check you in. I got an upgrade as I hold SPG status (though the upgraded room was small too!). Hotel interiors are too good, and the pool and spa experience was satisfying too. I was however disappointed by the breakfast, both by the spread and the autheticity of the food. I would not have a breakfast in the hotel again, but I would certainly stay here when I am in that part of Bombay

Unlike the ITC grand maratha, The ITC grand central is located very close to the business district of South Mumbai yet far from it to be close to other attractions in the city. Attending business meetings at Nariman point or going shopping at Phoenix mill, its all extremely convienent. Wether you are in the city for business or pleasure, the central is suited to your needs.

The only sore point i find is that the swimming pool shuts at 7 in the evening which is ridiculous. if you like to go for a swim to relax after a hard days work, you will be left wanting.

The first thing that strikes you about the ITC Grand Central is the magnificent skyscraper which is home to the hotel. That and the resplendent ceilings when you walk into the lobby. The walls particularly are adorned with some amazing paintings and photographs of old Bombay.

The rooms do not disappoint. In keeping with the generally lavish (but tasteful) decor, they are very modern and all amenities (including a few extras) are available. The views could be better but given its location, the windows mostly look out on new constructions in a densely populated part of the city. However given its central location, all points of interest are relatively close (by the city's standards) including the airport.

Service at the Grand Central is fantastic. Everyone, from the bell staff to the people at reception are extremely courteous and professional. In fact, when informed that they had inadvertently booked us one night short, they not only rectified the error immediately but instead offered us the room at a discounted rate.

The breakfast buffet offers a wide diversity of choice. During our stay, there was a south Indian Food festival on at the Peshwari. The food was excellent and we even invited some friends over instead of going out.

We would most certainly recommend the Grand Central for an memorable stay.

Stayed here for a conference and the hotel was chosen by the organizers because of its proximity to the venue.

My friend and I arrived late in the evening. We were given our respective rooms. It was a standard room, clean and comfortable, but I liked the touch of having the massage oils and scents by the bed. Toiletries were also good. The room was quiet and I never had a problem about hearing other guests in the corridor.

Even if it was late, my friend called my room and invited me down to the Dublin pub to try out the local beer, Kingfisher. While having drinks, some of the staff from the front desk arrived carrying a cake and singing happy birthday to me. The lady (I am sorry that I no longer recall her name but I will not forget her face) who checked me in had noticed on my passport that it was my birthday and when she found out that I had been traveling the whole day had waited until we were in our rooms before calling my friend to plan this surprise for me. What a pleasant surprise it was.

The breakfast buffet was alright but a bit repetitive given our length of stay. Maybe it would not have mattered as much if our stay had been for just a couple of days. We did try eating at Hornby's again for lunch but found the food to be on the pricey side. We had dinner at the Shanghai Club twice and found the food to be quite good. The gym was small and we ended up not using it. Security was strict even for hotel guests. A pat down and a metal detector at the main entrance.

Location was not fantastic and did not seem appealing to explore. We always took a cab around the city. Phoenix mall is just a few minutes away by cab.

The hotel was booked by the agency who had organised this conference at Mumbai. The rooms were quite clean, temperature was adequately controlled, all the facilities inside the room were there and above all picture clarity and sound of TV in the room were good. However, it seems that biscuits and snacks available (with payment) were somewhat old and not crisp as they were expected.

I had to wait for half an hour for some confusion at the reception regarding the booking. It should have been checked up and solved by the reception people more quickly rather than expressing helplessness. I could feel the absence of customer orientation in their approach. The matter could be settled much later by the organisers.

The best thing about this hotel is possibly the location.
Whilst it does'nt boast of the best view in the city, it is just the place to stay if you have work in both ends of the city. (Bombay is an island and it's two ends are typically hours away from each other in traffic).
I also like the fact that it has an 'EVA Floor', reserved for women who are either travelling alone, or would like to be on their own. There are no men on this floor (including staff), and they have lots of pretty toiletries for girls in the rooms.
The Indian restaurant (kebab's and curries) has superb jhinga (prawn) kababs and killer black daal. The Chinese restaurant is just perfect for a quick lunch---dimsums and soup.
The coffee shop is regular, but is does serve the best biryani. Try it.
When at the ITC, make it a point to visit the top floor and check out the fantastic view from the cocktail bar's terrace.

The hotel is excellent--clean, comfortable and the service is great. Overall, great hotel to stay in when in Mumbai though in my opinion Four Seasons is still the best hotel in Mumbai.

Highlights:
- comfortable bed (I loved the pillow menu!)
- excellent service (their bell desk was helpful with cab issues which you can expect when in Mumbai)
- rooms are very clean and nicely decorated (oddity: the bathroom colours and design is late 80s/early 90s which is surprising as one staff mentioned that the hotel is only about six years old?)

The one thing which I thought definitely needed to be improved was their breakfast buffet. I think the Indian food was okay but their non-Indian dishes were either a bit odd for a breakfast meal (I remember a dish of fish or chicken in a cream sauce?) or too "heavy" for my liking. If you want something lighter at breakfast, the options were limited. Even more limiting when some of the items aren't well made. Of the items I had: fruits were good, waffle was good, made to order eggs were okay but not great, the same cold cuts on offer everyday were not nice and the baked goods felt a bit stale (I don't think they were but the texture gave that impression) and didn't taste good.

So, would recommend staying at the hotel but don't pay extra for breakfast!

Mumbai is a mega city always bustling with activity even late at night but Parel where ITC Grand central is located is more like a residential area which does look deserted (and quiet) after 11 p.m at night. ITC hotel is the only place where one can get some activity in that vicinity and it has excellent options for dining - the chinese and indian mughlai food is amazing there. At 15 minutes drive (30 minutes in Mumbai peak traffic time) is the famous Phoenix mill compound with shopping malls, eateries, pubs and also bowling alley etc. The hotel is not huge but offers good room space with all modern amenities a business traveller expects to be available. The breakfast lounge is nice and provides good selection of food. Parel is almost in middle of South Bombay and airport so the place is conveniently located for outsiders who may want to see places such as Gateway of India etc on one of the days. Taxis are readily available outside of hotel. In all this hotel is not like Taj but is pretty good value for moeny.

The staff in Mumbai didn't seem so happy to be there and perhaps they were all a little over worked and tired. The food was also not the best, just okay. The room was fine and what you would expect form a 5 star, however, I wish they would install health faucets on all toilets. I hate using toilet paper - it is painful, irresponsible and unhygenic!

Its a bit of a drive to Marine Drive though, so pick some hotel there if you are going to be spending most of your time there. However Phoenix Mills, one of the more popular malls and hangout spots, is literally a stone's throw from the ITC.

I have attended several business meetings and conferences at the ITC Grand Central and as compared to the venues further in South Mumbai, this location serves much better as a central location.

Especially if you have attendees flying in for the meeting, it cuts travel time in half from the airport and makes it more efficient.

The service is good and what one would expect of the establishment. The exclusive tea area at the top is wonderful as well. Perfect place for a quite closed meeting with few members.

The food is better than what I have experienced at other establishments of its ilk. The buffet at the ITC Grand Central is highly recommended. While I was at the hotel, I also had the good fortune to run into a few of the international cricket players including Adam Gilchrist, Andrew Symonds, Herschelle Gibbs, R P Singh, etc as it was a base for their team for the IPL matches in mumbai.

This place can simply win you over by the food, but there is indeed more to it.

Located in Parel, it is fairly accessible by both business districts of South Bombay & BKC. Would be a good choice if your visit requires you to travel to various places within the city.

The service at ITC is pleasant. The check-in is courteous but I have had instances of some delays occuring in check out and getting the car or luggage from the concierge. Not a major irritant, but cannot rule out the event even in unexpected slots.

The hotel property is tastefully done. The rooms are well done as well. Ensured a comfortable stay and sleep. The service was prompt and courteous.

When at this hotel, a visit to their restaurants is highly recommended. You'll be safe picking any cuisine. Though the group is famous for its North western Cuisine, and visiting "Kebabs & Curries" simply must be on your list. Go for the Dal Bukhara without fail. Follow the recommendations of the stewards if you have specific dietary considerations.

The gym facilities are good, and the roof top swimming pool is a real pleasure.

All in all, check your travel plans first. If your criscrossing the city, do certainly consider this option. It is worth the stay.

I have always been staying in ITC Maratha during my Mumbai trips, but this time, my meetings were in Lowar Parel office, so I decided to stay in the ITC Grand Cental, which in my opinion, should have been a similar experience. But it was not, and next time I am going to choose ITC Maratha.
So, the good points fist:

The rooms are very comfortable, well spaced out, bathrooms have everything you need. If you find anything missing just call them and it will be there in minutes.
The food was great! Specially the punjabi food they have. If you are staying there, I must recommend that you try the food there.

Now, the not so good part:
Room service, not sure if this is an one-off case, but the soap and slippers in my room were not new, but used ones! I had to ask for a replacement. This should not be the case for such a hotel. This was a sure miss at the room service quality part, that too while making the room ready for a new customer. This is not the case with Grand Maratha, where I stayed thrice and same excellent service level every time. The daily cleaning service is good, but there were stains on one of the towels, which again is not good for the reputation of the ITC Standards.

So, if I have to stay close to Parel next time, I think I will try some other hotel, and not this one. But most probably, I will still choose ITC Maratha, as the travel to Parel from Andheri is not that bad in an AC Cab.

So, I love the food quality, location, room, and the behavior of the staff there, but the room service was kind of average.

As they say once beaten, twice shy! I will not book here because i am a leisure traveller to Mumbai and most of my friends and relatives reside and frequent the western suburbs and i will choose to stay at the sister hotel: ITC Maratha.

Breakfast is a huge buffet and while i was staying at the hotel, a member of the staff gave me a pass for the fashion show organised by the French embassy. Very nice to mix with the whos whos of Mumbai and the drinks on the rooftop place were nice.

Value for Money: Yes considering it was almost half the price compared to the other hotels in Mumbai at the time.

The roof bar on level 30 had a balcony where it is possible to have a drink on a balmy Mumbai winter night. Amenities like the gym were well equipped, albeit it was a bit small. The only major drawback is the location of the hotel: it is not very central (which is noticeable during rush hour) and the area around it is very poor. The food options are plenty and especially the indian food scene is attractive. The service and the food at the kabab restaurant is very good for both business as well as small family gatherings. The location is very conveniently mid-mubai and the architecture is impressive. The rooms seem okay but the pricing seemed high. Didn't get a chance to go by the poolside but others had nice things to say about it.

The location of the hotel is not ideal and the rooms are not extravagant. Not that the rooms are bad at all, there is whatever you need. It is the added perks that make this hotel recomendable. For instance, you have a pillow menu to get just the right pillow. Two hours of happy hour at the bar every day where cocktails are complementary !!!! In addition the most extravagant breakfast I have ever seen, there is indian, continental and english breakfast like any other high end hotel but in addition there is for example ice cream and hot dishes so you can easily skip lunch.

i stayed here for 10 nights and found it a lovely hotel, rooms were spacious and were of the 5 star standard, lcd flatscreen tv, different types of pillow depending on your preference etc.

staff were friendly and attentive. and the kebabs and kurries restaurant is well worth a visit, on the down side, the location is good for getting to the offices in the parel district, but its not the most amazing location ever. Also the bar was often empty and lacked any kind of atmosphere.

Great place to stop for a few nights on business, but if you want some nightlife you will need to jump in a taxi!

I got relocated from New Delhi to Mumbai to take up assignment on country level with Walt Disney International India. As per company policy I had a stipulated period to stay in hotel while I finalized my own arrangement.
Now to the hotel, must say its conviniently located but not a great location to hang around.
The property is superb, the service is very friendly and responsive, stay is indeed comfortable and well taken care of.
On the foodie front it scores high on both Indian as well as continental. It has a treat for all the tastebuds, I love especially the tikkas and raan etc.
The rooms are elegant, well spaced out, bathrooms have everything that one can desire of at high level. And just in case you find anything missing thats your fav in room it be there on a dial in mins.
On the flip side since the property is not spread out due to want of area you dont get the feel of largesse or grand should I say.
For me I would I would recommend as decent property with decent value for money.

ITC Grand Central is a beautiful Hotel located in Central Mumbai, however, there is a lot of construction work being carried out near the hotel which is not a very scenic view from the hotel. The view from the Point of View outlet on the 30th floor of the hotel is indeed very beautiful and covers the view of Central Mumbai. The food is good but the buffets at Hornby's Pavillion are more or less the same and no major changes in the dishes is done.

More or less, its a decent and good enough place to stay.

Located in Parel, Grand Central is at the heart of the city and is a good place to put up at when in Mumbai on work. (equi-distant from the suburbs and from "town").
Break fast is wonderful -- a truly great spread and one must ensure not to miss it.
The Hotel has great speciality restaurants... so you can truly indulge in good dining.
Women travelling alone are accomodated on the Eva floor-- which has special security (so that's a great touch).

This hotel is quite new, with a grand architecture, beautifully kept, very clean, and packed with facilities. The rooms are large and very well decorated, comfortable for the business traveller and tourist alike. There are several restaurants with good food.
Downsides:breakfast is OK but not particularly good. The location is OK, very close to the business district, but not very good if you are a tourist.
Go to the top floor terrace: the view is spectacular. Only VIP guests are allowed access in theory, but the reality is no one will stop you if you look confident enough. I took some amazing pictures.
Overall, I think it was a good choice of hotel. I am sure there is better, but this one was quite good. Bearing in mind the traffic in Mumbai, it is important to be near whatever you want / have to visit: the Grand was great for me in that particular occasion.

We arrived at the hotel around 2am and were pleasantly surprised to discover that the staff knew exactly who we were and had everything ready. They had even arranged 2 inter-connecting rooms for our children. The rooms were booked through the Starwood rewards system and I have to say we found them very efficient.

The location was perfect for us - we had a 2 night stay so wanted to be close to the city but also not too far from the airport. We had a wander round the local streets and soaked up the atmosphere.

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful.
Ironically we chose to have Chinese food on our first night in India but were not disappointed.Prices were high but we found the same all over India....if you plan to do India the 5 star way then also plan to spend a lot of money! Also, for wine lovers don't plan on drinking wine for a while - it's VERY expensive and doesn't travel well.Stick to the local beer.

The beds were probably the most comfortable I've ever slept in and I've tried quite a few.

The reception can arrange a "free" tour of Mumbai - but of course nothing in life is free. The guys will take you to quite a few cottage industry shops at the end of the tour and then tell you over and over that the tour is free, whilst hinting heavily at a good tip.If the tour is good then why not? There does come a point when you realise exactly what's going on though and don't need badgering.

Overall, a very pleasant way to start our trip

This is a good five staff hotel but with some minor gripes, it is not exceptional by international standards and is not the best in Mumbai.

My check was poorly handled, the room I had booked was not available at 1:30pm, when I complained a room was found within minutes.

The room (Queen bed Club but not Towers) was fine. Everything worked, it was comfortable and well though out. Nothing very special and a little small. The bath room was also small but with a decent sized full bath with hot water on demand.

The hotel itself is clean, the staff are friendly, numerous and reasonably attentive. No outside pool, but this is common in dusty, humid Mumbai. The building lacks real atmosphere or charm, but it is rises above the level of a standard business hotel.

The Kebabs and Kurries restuaruant is excellent, and this is coming for somebody who has visited India often and lives in a town overflowing with 'Indian' restaurants.

The business facilities are a little limited, for instance there are no small meeting rooms outside the Towers. This does seem to mean that hotel does not get over run by conferences. The hotel has Internet access and Wi-Fi which works through the hotel.

It is situated half way between down town and the airport. For business you may be better placed at the airport, for tourism down town. Traffic is a big issue here rather than distance, even short journeys can take an hour. There is no where to walk to from the hotel, you are in the middle of nowhere, everything is a taxi ride away. Is this the best of both worlds ? Or of neither ? Depends why you came here I guess. If you want to combine business and pleasure it may be ideal. It was the only decent hotel with vacancies when I booked.

I would stay here again if the alternative were full, but the hotel lacks the Wow factor. If this is your one and only visit to Mumbai go elsewhere for the atmosphere and history. For business consider an airport hotel because they are so much easier to get to.

No ho avuto alcun tipo di disturbo.

Stay in ITC Grand Central if and only if you have your meetings nearby this property. This is quite far from the airport. If you get stuck in the traffic it may take you a good while to reach the airport. Food is good, but the lobby for smokers stinks pathetically bad. Not a great place to be with family specially if your kids want to enjoy the pool. Nice place to be if you are in Mumbai for shopping as some of the best shopping malls are nearby.

For the first few days of my stay I wasn't particularly impressed by the service but a couple of better experiences (the front desk gave me a 6 pm tariff-free late check out for example) and a wonderful meal from the Shanghai Club's Chef Yang have raised its rating. ITC Grand Central is located midway between the airport and India gate. The hotel is clean, of high international quality with grand decour.

Comparing with ITC Maratha (near airport), the Grand Central rooms are smaller and the price is higher than ITC Maratha near the airport. The restaurants are of good quality, but not as AMAZING as ITC Maratha. The cost is a bit more, especially a room tax they charge at Grand Central on checkout that did not exist at Maratha (I believe because Maratha is outside city limit).

I stay at ITC Grand Central again for business in Parel area of Mumbai, but if given the choice, would prefer ITC Grand Maratha.

Stayed here while visiting Mumbai for the weekend. Staff were helpful and the hotel is a nice oasis in the middle of the chaos of the city. It's a bit far from the tourist sites though, so takes a while to get back to the hotel after siteseeing due to heavy traffic in the area. Also, everything on the property is so overpriced. I guess they know they can charge foreign tourists a lot.

Pros:
- Nice friendly staff. Always willing to help.
- Quiet, comfortable room

Cons:
- Pool and lobby areas quite small. Not much to do on the property other than stay in your room or eat in a restaurant
- Restaurants very extremely pricey for the what you get. Food was decent, but you could go to an outside restaurant for half the price. Yes, I know most hotels do this, but this seemed more extreme than usual.
- Our coffee/tea set in the room was not cleaned from last guest. Housekeeping changed it quickly, but this should not have happened to begin with.
- Front desk and concierge areas seemed very chaotic. They would start helping me with something, but then get pulled onto 2-3 other things at the same time and I would just stand there wondering what is going on.
- Location kind of far from tourist areas. Took us 1/2 hour to get back from Chowpatty by taxi due to traffic..

The hotels claims to be 5Star? It's a 4* at most. Prices are the usual for Mumbai 5*- around EUR 200.00 per night.

Breakfast is a bit of an unorganized hassle - for both guests and waiters. The rooms' interiors are a little tired and in need of a refurbishment, however, what repelled me most was the fact that you cannot open windows in the guest rooms and the a/cs are constantly on re-circulation mode. The room atmosphere is humid and the air is smelly of mildew. That should be attended to immediately.
Staff is nice and friendly but not overly devout - which is pleasant.
Security is Indian Standard - bags are scanned and people walk through this metal detector porch. Not a real deterrent, better than nothing I guess.
What impressed me was the lobby with the opulent flower arrangements. It's not that I am terribly disappointed but I would just simply have expected more from a 5* in India.

As a traveller who does around 70%+ travel and a platinum Starwood member the Grand Central is not in the same league as other top properties in Mumbai.

On the negatives I never get the platimum suite upgrade in the hotel - the Towers rooms are small and nothing special. The breakfast in the coffee shop is average - initially I was told fresh orange juice was not available - upon a threat of discussing this with the manager this since turned up every morning. The canapes and snack selection in the Towers lounge is pathetic - probably one of the worst, least appetizing selections I have ever seen. The car service is OK but the cars are old and of midget proportions. The food is average - the non Indian selections are usually around the average mark whilst the oriental food is pretty dire.

On the positives the staff try hard given their lack of interntaional exposure - I think the management are to blame for whwre is goes wrong. The beds are comfortable and usually the rooms are quiet. Internet became free after a threat of moving elsewhere. The hotel represents good value given everything is free after negotiation.

Verdict: You get what you pay for and you get Starwood points.

Stayed here for two nights. The location is pretty decent and the lobby is well appointed. Check-in was smooth at the SPG Gold counter. As occupancy rates have been dropping of, the manager may exercise some flexibility in giving you a better room, free breakfast, etc, so don't hesitate asking.

Guest relations officers are very helpful. My wife called them a couple times for help with her saree and each time they spent half an hour or more with her, helping her with it.

The room is decently appointed, there are sufficient cable tv channels to keep one occupied. The furnishings are clean and reasonably kept. Bathroom is decently sized, well light and quite nice as well.

Will stay again.

Don't be fooled by the photos, this hotel no longer rises majestically on its own, there is building sites on all sides.

The location is central but nothing to do in walking distance.

It's a good solid business hotel, but nothing special, for less money you can enjoy the Taj and that is special.

On a side note I paid for the exec package, but found the same room type as normal and the exec services are at such restrictive hours, by the time I got home from the office they were not available.

I stayed at the Maratha for 2 weeks in Jan/Feb 2008 for business. The first room I had (room 1669 on one of the 'Upper Crust' floors) had the most uncomfortably hard bed I've ever experienced (and I spend over 100 nights/year in hotels), which was a major disappointment (I ended up pulling the seat cushions off the coach and sleeping on to of those on top of the bed). I mentioned this to staff who said they would somehow 'make it softer'. After returning from the office at 3am to find the bed just as terrible I called my company's travel agent and re-booked into the Hyatt across the street and then called the duty manager to tell them I'd be leaving in the morning.

At the time of checkout, the duty manager promised me a better room and lower rate to stay. I ended up in room 1501 which is a large suite with view over the pool (and more importantly a more comfortable bed). I was pleased with this resolution, but shouldn't have had to deal with the worst bed in history to begin with.

Overall the hotel is decent, but the food is hit and miss (some serious Delhi belly after trying the luncheon buffet). For the price they're charging this hotel doesn't quite cut it.

I stayed here for only the third time as I wasn't very impressed with my previous stays. But this would be third time and last. While the location is ideal for those who want convenient access to Worli, Colaba as well as Bandra and the airport areas, the rooms, facilities and food are at best what I would describe as average given the high standards that hotels have in India. Despite being a relatively new hotel there's still a musty odour from the carpets and the cleaning staff didn't do a great job on the room either. And the noise levels of Mumbai permeate into the rooms so forget about lying in after a late night flight.

We had booked a conference room in the business centre for an all day meeting and despite the charges being the same level as comparable 5 star hotels the service levels were poor. (Incidentally my last stay in Dec 09 had similar poor service in the conference room but I thought it was a one-off and didn't review it. The technical staff seemed clueless on their own equipment. The lady in charge seemed out of her depth and agreed to everything but delivered nothing. I asked for the GM but was told he wasn't in and the Front Office Manager did his best to calm things down and restore order. A week later I receive, via email a lame apology from the GM (Zubin) to which I replied with specific questions. That was in early May and I am still awaiting the response. All in all an embrassament to the ITC and Sheraton's good names. Hari, Nakul- I hope you are reading this.

I would say avoid if you need clock-work service for a business event or a holiday, Choose the ITC Grand Maratha instead or the Taj or the Hilton or the Marriot or the Hyatts. If you must be in Lower-Parel/Worli then stay here but don't expect much. It was nice, the ok, then tolerable but now it's becoming problematic.

Went to this hotel for a couple of days.
After the terrorist attacks, every hotel has its own security protocol. You go through a metal detector and they search your bag.
Needless to say that the whole thing is completely useless and only makes you loose time and temper.
The rooms we had smelled fusty (muld) and the A/C was set to 19°C without being able to change it.
Although the hotel is centrally located in Mumbai, the surrounding are terrible. The only view I had was a three towers construction site with dust, cranes, workers and all.
The last day, we decided to go in a restaurant. We asked the concierge to make a reservation. I showed him the restaurant in the guide and he copied the name and number. He told me we were all set and called a cab. When we arrived there (45 minutes drive), we found out that the restaurant had been closed for two weeks.
When we confronted the concierge he pretended not to understand what we said. I called the manager who said he was not responsible if restaurants were closed. Nobody apologized.
The shampoo and soaps in the room are not what you would expect when you pay that kind of money and the breakfast is barely noticeable.
In the end they had the bill wrong (+100€).
Overall the hotel has a poor value for money and did not feel like a place we looked forward to return after a warm day in the city.

I had a 5 day reservation at this property and requested a non-smoking room, simple request considering I made my reservation several months ago and was paying nearly $400 US per night. I am also a Starwood Platinum member and travel frequently.

Upon check in I was told I had a non-smoking room. When I exited the elevator with the porter the floor we exited smelled of strong cigarette smoke. I immediately asked if my room was indeed non smoking. Yes, I was told, it is a non-smoking room on a smoking floor. When we entered the room it smelled of smoke with ash trays and matches, unusual for a so called non-smoking room!

I tried to sleep in this room as I was tired from the trip, after a few hours I woke up with a terrible sore throat from the smoke residue.

I requested another room and was given another room, that room smelled terrible, kind of a sewer smell. I complained and the next day moved to yet another room.

Again I was told this new room was non-smoking, upon entry a smoke smell ash trays and matches. I was becoming very frustrated , they took me to yet another room.

The next room smelled heavily of a paint and varnish. The smell was so strong it gave me a headache. I requested another room and was told that nothing better was available. I then told the front desk that I was so unhappy that I was thinking of checking out of the hotel and going elsewhere with my business.

I was then told to wait while the person at the front desk made a phone call. I was then told that the hotel had an unexpected departure and that a non-smoking suite was available after all.
I don't know who was on the other end of the phone line but it was amazing how fast a room became available, a suite even!

The new room worked out perfect and I enjoyed the rest of my stay. I just don't feel I should have had to go through all of this especially utilizing Starwood over 50 nights per year. I also feel that the better room was available the whole time as it seemed to be available as soon as I mentioned the words " I will be checking out early and moving to another hotel" I feel like I was being played with.

After moving through so many rooms I will say one thing, every room is quite different in terms of quality, most smell, and have very different water temps (one room the water never became hotter than luke warm). It is really hit and miss what type of room you will end up with.

Internet was great, so was the LG flat screen TV. Food was very marginal. Location is not that great. Staff was very friendly but it seemed that they were misleading me on the room issue.

I will not stay here again as I feel that for the price paid I can do better elsewhere.

Most trip advisor reviews are thoughtful and intelligent which is why they invariably influence my lodging decisions. I normally write generally positive reviews because I read trip advisor reviews and avoid hotels where I am likely to be unhappy. However, when I stayed at the ITC Grand Central in Mumbai in 2009, it was genuinely a world class hotel. So I igored recent reviews where there are hints of the decline of this hotel. I decided to trust my memory of a spectacular place just two years ago. I should have read more carefully. Though business oriented, I liked this hotel for vacation because it is located outside of the tourist mainstream and all points are reasonably accessible. But most of all I liked the 5 star quality of the place. An elegant modern structure with lots of brass and marble surrounding an elegant classical British courtyard and outbuilding which is preserved on the site, for those who appreciate striking and modern, this is an exiting building. But past its façade, something awful has happened between 2009 and 2011. In 2009 this was a magnificent world class hotel, today it has all the quality, in terms of maintenance and staff, of a typical four star airport hotel in any second tier U.S. market. Except in a few important ways it is much worse.

First, and don’t kid yourself or let management kid you, this hotel has a mammoth mildew problem which pervades many of its rooms and even common areas including the elegant executive lounge on the 30th floor. Once you get a hint of that smell in your own room, it follows you around the hotel. On a five night visit, we moved to four different rooms, the final one, a suite at the hotel’s insistence was offered after I noticed a big patch of mold on the ceiling of our third room, and brown gunky liquid leaking from the side of the bath tub onto the marble floor. In the first room the head of housekeeping insisted on placing an ozonator to “increase oxygen levels” and a dehumidifier advising us the room would be fine “in a few hours.”

What was more disturbing if less tangible was the robotic attitude of the staff. Two years ago we were highly impressed by the personal attention, personality, and thoughtful responsiveness with which any request or question was greeted. Today this hotel is the epitome of corporate micro-management with employees acting more as profit hungry automatons than humans dedicated to hospitality. In particular, I had several humiliating encounters with front desk and middle-management staff and hapless assistant managers who treated some of my requests with clear skepticism and required me to stand and wait for four or five minutes while they investigated every trivial detail on their computer screens. One case in particular was my breakfast which Starwood reservations told me was included with the room. I was told when I arrived, without asking, that it was not included. I should have understood that this was clearly an on-going issue between the hotel and Starwood. I told the manager on duty that Starwood told me it was included. Instead of immediately apologizing and saying of course it is, he said it was not included and Starwood was mistaken. I said Starwood might be mistaken but that I was not mistaken. I couldn’t believe we were having this conversation, especially since we were staying for five nights and occupying two rooms. After admonishing me in front of my wife and other hotel employees he said he would check on it but that even though I had been upgraded to the lounge level (I am a Starwood gold or premium member or whatever), I could not use the lounge. It was almost surreal. He did finally say breakfast would be “no problem.” However the next day I was asked to sign the bill for breakfast. I approached this same assistant manager who said, “I told you I would try.” I said you never used the word “try” and walked away. I would have checked out of the hotel at this point but we were traveling with guests and I did not want to upset them.

The story of the three room changes is another one but the mildew smell in the first room was unbelievable. The second room was punctuated with cracking window plaster but without mildew and the third room was okay until two days later when we noticed the mold on the ceiling and brown gunk. When I called the manager on duty she came to my room with the head of housekeeping and head of security. At that time I mentioned how upset I was about the breakfast situation and how I was treated like a petty criminal. She assured me breakfast was complimentary and to my astonishment told me that the hotel had in fact changed its breakfast policy but that was not known throughout Starwood and that other guests had been upset by the same issue. The fact that the other manager stonewalled me and treated me like I was fabricating my statement that Starwood promised breakfast infuriated me. Not only was his position wrong from a hospitality standpoint, it was patently dishonest and cheap to hide this fact and treat me like I was demanding something to which I was not entitled. I was and am disgusted by this unethical conduct. They knew I was not the problem but to bolster their bottom line they did not hesitate to make me uncomfortable in order to pressure me to back off. This is a disgrace. This got worse when I checked out and saw breakfast charges on my bill. I approached the same assistant manager who told me breakfast would be “no problem” and she concocted a story that she had only offered me two days of breakfast. She said they had a staff meeting about me, I couldn’t believe what I was hearing – they have staff meetings about whether a return guest holding two rooms, one at rack rate, should eat at their buffet breakfast – and when I objected she became argumentative and aggressive. This concerned assistant manager who a few days before was sweet and caring became Mr. Hyde and was virtually yelling at me. I have never, in 35 years of business and leisure travel been treated so shoddily.

Finally, in this is typical, three days in a row I had to ask the towels be replenished in the rest rooms near the lobby and dining room. On one occasion I was told he hotel is very concerned “about the environment.” Another bogus response because such a hotel would provide air dryers or reusable towels. This is all symptomatic of an demoralized staff being squeezed to discard their hospitality mission whenever profits are at stake. I know this hotel exists to make money, but fine chains like the Oberoi and Leela are doing it – if they can’t compete they should stop misleading, mistreating, and misrepresenting and get out of the game.

Bottom-line, behind a very thin veneer of luxury sits a hotel which is not world-class but second class. There is a corporate culture better suited to run and minimum security prison than a five star hotel, a fundamental dishonesty that is permitting business decisions to out-balance hospitality obligations, and a carefully orchestrated attempt to disguise fundamental but critical infrastructure failures which account for widespread mildew and perhaps serious mold problems which could be a serious health issue for visitors and employees. And on a final note, I should have paid attention, but many trip advisor reviews contradicted my two year old memory of a world-class breakfast buffet. Features like the fresh juice bar have disappeared and in its place is canned sweetened juices. The food is good, but true to the reviews, like everything else in this hotel, not what it ought to be. The rot in the walls and ceilings is a great metaphor for the corporate culture. You have many wonderful choices in Mumbai. My experience at Oberoi and Leela hotels in other cities has been world-class and flawless. I’ll look there next time.

Having recently stayed at this hotel, I was quite disgusted by what I found going on at the hotel and will never return to this hotel or any Sheraton in India.

I was booked by my company to stay at this property (Grand Central). To be fair, this might be 'central' Mumbai but not central for buisness or sightseeing. It is about 15km from the business district and about 20km from the airport. With traffic, getting anywhere would mean at least an hours drive. The hotel is built on land which formerly housed a cigarette factory of ITC (the Sheraton franchisee running this hotel). The area is quite dilapidated with a few textile mills which shut down about 20 years ago.

Back to the hotel 'service', I went with a colleague to the Indian restaurant for lunch on a Sunday. To cut it short, they have a 'chef' with a microwave in the corner outside the kitchen scarpping bowls of returned Biryanis and re-heating and sending them back to other customers as 'new'. I was disgusted and left immediately. We later checked-out and moved into the Hilton (Oberoi).
