Du Parc is a very cozy, quaint heritage villa used by Le Dupleix the most famous of the several french Governors of Puducherry in the 1700s. Its location in the east side of this old french colony is in midst the cleanest area of the current french town.(dont be shocked to see the uniform clad local pallike personnel cleaning the streets from your window at 11 in the night!... three shifts a day keep this part of the town clean)
The villa staff are very warm and ever willing to help you.We had come with our 2 teenage children and stayed in one of the 2 suites. Its very spacious with a decent modern bathroom.

The good things about this hotel are its location and ambience. Located in a very convenient corner of Pondicherry, it is surrounded by many places to visit. Nearby are the Vinayaka temple and Aurobindo Ashram. The promenade is just a couple of minutes walk from here. On the other side, the market is also a stone's throw away on JN Street.

The second good point about this hotel is the overall ambience. Du Parc is one of the heritage hotels in Pondicherry (The hotel brochure claimed that French governors in the past have stayed here). And it has been maintained in that way - a colonial-style villa with beautiful elevation. It consists of ten rooms each different in layout. The rooms are comfortable and decorated nicely. However there was a problem of seepage due to rains which was quite noticeable in the two rooms we used. Also there should be fans in the hotel as the AC may not be suitable for many.

There is an open sitting area/coffee shop which was unfortunately covered because of the rain. However in other seasons this would be a very good location for an early morning breakfast or a late night dinner. Internet is available, but no wi-fi (again a minor quibble in case you are here for vacation).

I cannot really comment on the food as we did not try it here except for the breakfast which was included in the tariff. For breakfast, you have a choice of one South Indian dish or one egg-based dish. Breakfast was strictly OK, with the dishes tasting differently every day. However, food should not be an issue since just opposite is SurGuru restaurant (rated no 1 as per TripAdvisor) and nearby are Bon Bakes, Hot Breads and Anand Bhavan - all at a walkable distance.

All in all, my wife and I found this to be a very good hotel. I would stay here again and would recommend this hotel for the mid-high range traveler.

I had booked this place after reading reviews in trip advisor and this place exceeded my expectations. Room were neat and clean, washrooms were small but clean. property is well maintained considering it is an old heritage building. one can not find a better located hotel than this when in pondicherry. Suruguru restaurant is 4 mtr away, ganesh temple is 8 mtr away, Ashram is 100 mtr away, beach is 300 mtr away. Staff was ever willing to help, Breakfast buffet was limited but good. Looking forward to go back again to this hotel

Hotel Du Parc is an old French-era Bungalow converted into a quaint and warm hotel. The place is very tastefully done. Rooms are very elegant, and the suites are a steal. They have a lovely canopied outdoor restaurant on a wooden terrace deck, the ambience of which is soft and magical! Day or night!
The staff is very courteous and service is excellent.
Location is just where you want to be in Pondicherry. Right in the middle of the shopping area, very near the French quarter, walking distance from the beach and Promenade. You also have a lot of great restaurant options nearby.
I'd love to stay at Du Parc again.

Hotel Du Parc is an impressive heritage villa. The pastel colours and the outlook of the building make you fall in love with it instantly. It is right in the middle of the town and is just 5 mins away from the beach. What else would one want when visiting Pondicherry.

The environment is warm and staff friendly and approachable. It is value for money with its great customer service, friendliness of the staff and even the manager.

I would recommend people to opt for the duplex rooms as its more fun when you are staying there with your friends. It is massive and very spacious for people to sit together and chat away through out the night, keeping in mind the privacy of the few who want to go to bed earlier than the others. Not to miss are their fresh juices and curd rice.

We loved our stay at Hotel Du Parc and will surely be staying their again during our next visit and would advise all the people reading this review not to miss on it too!!

my partner and i really enjoyed our stay here. the room was enormous and tastefully decorated and the bed was huge and so comfortable. we slept like logs every night. we also received a newspaper under our door every morning which was a nice touch. every request we had was actioned immediately and the staff were always friendly and obliging. breakfast was included in the room tariff and included a fresh fruit juice, tea/coffee and toast and eggs as you like. we stayed for 3 days and on the 2nd breafast was a bit of a 'fawlty towers' affair but only because they only had one waiter on (and i'm pretty sure he was the one cooking too!). the only con was the shower, the pressure was fine but it didn't hang over your head you had to physically hold it over your head... they also have a pc with internet but it is very slow. but otherwise an excellent stay. recommended.

Our stay was truly par excellence and here’s why:

• Great location
Du Parc is located on Jawaharlal Nehru Street which is at the heart of Pondicherry.
The promenade, beach road is a 5 minute walk. Aurobindo Ashram is also a 5 minute walk, Puducherry Museum and the famous Bharati Park is 2 minutes away.
The location is also great for shoppers and good eateries.
Surguru is right opposite Duparc, go there for a perfect cup of filter coffee & tasty dosas. Auroville boutique and Casablanca for shopping is a few minutes walk from the hotel.

• Superb rooms and service
DuParc is a heritage hotel with 10 uniquely French styled rooms. We stayed in a suite, the room was very spacious, clean and so beautiful.
It came well equipped with cupboards, air conditioning, mini bar, toiletries and complimentary breakfast (continental & south Indian) which was served to our room.
We totally loved the ambience of the lush greenery outside and old style feel of our room. Our beds were comfortable and even though the hotel is located on a busy road, our room was a quiet haven.
The entire staff at the hotel is very friendly and always eager to help. The manager Mr.Ravi was always around to help with information about Pondicherry and places to see. John at the front desk is also very nice and always smiling. Requests for extra blankets, towels were sent to the room without any questions.

• Delicious Food
DuParc’s inhouse dining is very good. You can choose to dine at either of their 2 restaurants – the canopy (outdoor seating) or La Maree. The restaurants serve a mix of Indian, Chinese and contintental food.
Their sandwiches make for a great evening snack. The seafood is fresh and simply yummy. They also whip up special dishes based on your request. Service is good and the price is totally worth it.

This Hotel offers the best of everything from the staff, the rooms, the food - it was simply perfect. If you plan to visit Pondicherry then your best bet for a good hotel is for sure Hotel Du Parc!

I stayed at Hotel du parc in April with my mom and my sister and we truly loved our stay there.

Hotel du parc is highly recommended for the following :

1. The location of the hotel makes the ashram and the sea side very accessible, two minutes to the ashram and five minutes to the promendade by foot. You have all the conveniences near by such as "Surguru restaurant", "VAK store", "Ananda Bhavan" and the market place teeming with a number of shops, cafes and restaurants.

2. The hotel is a charming, peaceful abode that has an ambience unlike any modern hotel. It has history and that itself distinguishes it from every other hotel. The rooms are tastefully decorated and in fact as I stayed there with my mother and my sister, the hotel management kindly provided us with a bigger room than we had asked for, making the stay truly memorable.

3. The hotel staff was courteous, kind and helpful. They never once made us feel uncomfortable and treated us with respect and friendliness.

The hotel can certainly consider expanding its menu for breakfast and serving it on time as it was the only let down. We are going back in July to the hotel and I recommend it to people that are looking for a reasonably priced, conveniently located comfortable stay in a hotel that combines a colonial feel with the modern amenities of luxury accomodation.

Located in French quarter, Du Parc is a hotel with lot of French Characteristic to it, that itself make it worth staying. What attracted us the most was that the hotel had a personal touch to it and the credit goes to the manager Ravi and his staff. All of them were good and service was excellent. We stayed in the Deluxe room and we just loved the room. Room was good with French windows and door. Furniture reminded us of the era. Location was good with a minute walk to the beach front and I would recommend to anyone. Only thing we could find slightly on the negative side was that the breakfast didn't have much choice to it.

I travel quite often to India for many years and stayed at endless hotels and guest houses of all sorts and levels. This hotel was one of the best, something significantly unique in terms of beauty and cleanness of the room, and anyone who ever been to India knows how hard it is to get such athing in India :-)

These were 2 days of pure pleasure. Their restaurant though a bit expensive is a great one. Service is perfect and very very friendly and helpful.

Plus, they gave me a special discount price for a double room in the price of a single room (2,500 Rs).

It is just over the corner from Sri Aurobindo Ashram and on the end of the main shopping st.

The beach is about a 3-4 minute walk.
All nice eating joints are at a walking distance.
The rooms are basic but clean and spacious.
The open air restaurant is beautiful and offers some nice sea food.
You can rent a bike from close by and explore the neighbourhood all day.

My husband and I spend two nights at Du Parc , a heritage style , cute and beautiful Hotel , located at the Heart of the city.I cant stop myself from writing this review , as Du Parc played a vital role in making my trip a cherishable memory.
To start with the location , its very close to all the visiting spots. We enjoyed a lovely walk to Ganesh temple , Beach etc.The environment is green , adding beauty to Du Parc and off course we enjoyed fresh air. The room is comfortable ,tidy , properly furnished with all amenities .The bedspreads , towels provided were very neat and didnt get any uneasy feel (which we got from certain hotels). The restaurants are pleasant , the dishes are mouth watering!!! Enjoyed a stomach full lunch and dinner , as it pleased our taste buds!!!
The added advantage of Du Parc is its courteous and friendly staffs . Serving the guests , knowing the meaning of HOSPITALITY!!!Keep up the good work friends!!!
Du Parc, prompt us to take a decision of spending our NEWYEAR EVE AND NEWYEAR CELEBRATION 2011 WITH THIS CHARMING GROUP!!!!
Eagerly waiting to be back at this Hidden Gem!!!!!

This Hotel was perfect. The rooms were decent sized, clean, comfortable and had lots of character and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. It also had an outside deck surrounded by trees which was great for some relaxation. The location is perfect, just within the French Quarter (so minimal car honking) but still very close to the main shopping streets and also just up the road from the temple. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Pondi is a lovely city but it is India and it can get stressful - we found the du Parc the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle. I would absolutely stay there again - i only wish that hotels in Europe could be more like this.

This was one of the best hotels we stayed in throughout India. We stayed here for 3 nights. Their check-in desk is 'open-air' situated through the lovely entrance. The staff knew who we were when we arrived, this was lovely as you read about people who book rooms online & the hotel doesn't have any record of booking. We were given a choice of 2 rooms so we chose a very roomy 2 storey room. It felt like being at home, so comfortable. We didn't have any hot water, only warm, although this wasn't an issue as the outside temperature was hot & humid.

The staff were so accommodating & friendly (especially Ravi), arranging a driver for us at 12:30 in the morning so we could catch an early flight from Chennai. The restaurant staff were all so amazing, along with the food. Thamas was especially obliging & would do anything required to make our meals more enjoyable. Although I would suggest an improvement to the breakfast menu. We decided to eat breakfast on the beachfront each day so not a major problem for us. The lunch & dinner menu at the hotel were great, they served delicious South Indian meals...highly recommended.

We were delighted with the location of the hotel. The hotel is across the road from the Elephant Temple, a few blocks away from Kerala Ayurvedic and a great traditional treatment, the hotel is happy to organise appointments for you if needed. An easy walk sees you in the middle of some great shopping. We took the heritage walk as well taking in the old buildings of Pondicherry which was most enjoyable. Although Hotel du Parc is so central to everything you need the hotel itself is a little oasis away from the activity. Once you step through the entrance gate, true peace & tranquility await.

We would highly recommend this hotel & can't wait to return for a longer stay next time.

We chanced upon this lovely quiant hotel from one of the pondicherry sites. And I loved the look of the place so we went ahead and booked 3 nights here. When we arrived, dusty and tired the first look of the hotel was pleasing (it has a small entrance but has that authentic French look about it). Once we went inside we (my husband and me) were quite taken in. Contrary to what others have said about this hotel, believe me that in pondicherry this is THE place to stay. The location is superb (ashram, temple, main market - Goubert avenue), the promenade - everything worth seeing is all at an arm's length. Never have I stayed at a hotel which was situated on a busy street yet located strategically at a peaceful corner of the street with all the places to visit within walking distance. It was simply fantastic. The food was truly amazing and we had breakfast every day there and on all the days the service was immaculate. the staff is friendly quick and very cooperative. I had the best cold coffee at breakfast there (CCD..barista is no match for this place!). Even our dinner was pretty good. We were booked in a standard double room and i think we got the best room. It was on the first floor and had a lovely view of the entire hotel - the front gate, the restaurant as well as the patio where we used to be served dinner (when it was not raining). There was a coconut tree right in front of our room door and each morning we would see squirrels scurrying past the stairs or on tree branches. I would highly recommend this hotel. There was just a small issue with the room. It was cosy but small (which was fine for us) but the room as well as the bed linen had a musty smell (at first we thought that it could be due to the rains..but then we realised it was because the room ac was leaking a bit. later we realised that was becuase we would switch off the ac sometimes when we went out so that was the reason the ac would leak water. Other than that everything was great. The bathroom has window panes on part of the roof so it looks really nice in the daytime. all in all we have decided that we will always stay at this hotel whenever we visit pondicherry.

The little courtyard is the centre of activity. That's where they checked us in. Then they seated us in the open hut and gave us a welcome drink while the driver unloaded our bags. Reminds me of exotic Bali.

The young energetic team was eager to help. During our stay, nothing was too much for them and they helped us with laundry and car requests. The availability of a terminal and internet access was a bonus.

Laundry is reasonably priced and efficient and we get them back the same day - that's great because that means we can bring half the clothes we did when we went the last time.

Room 3 was a fabulous double-storey studio. We liked it because it was bright and spacious and had a king size 6-foot bed. We would request for the same room again next time. The aircon was thankfully working well so that we could seek refuge from the midday heat and humidity.

For breakfast we could have eggs to order and we loved the masala omelette with tons of onions. The South Indian coffee was deliciously creamy as it was made in milk without water.

The hotel has a dinner buffet on Sat for Rs320 (approx US$6) - the good western and local spread was value for money. We appreciate the good-natured restaurant manager and his assistant who made our meals there very pleasant.

Our thanks also go to Ravi the general manager who ran a fabulous team and would personally attend to things himself.

See you all again soon!

Rooms: Extremely spacious. They put a lot of effort into maintaining the old colonial atmosphere of the rooms. The AC was good too, which was important because Tamil Nadu is very hot this time of year.

Food: Some of the best hotel food I've ever had in India. There was a great choice of cuisine, and I took particular delight in tasting some of the local French/Pondicherry items on offer.

Staff: Extremely friendly and helpful. Not one bad experience with them.

The hotel itself is a converted colonial mansion. You walk in to the hotel into the courtyard and you automatically feel at peace. There are trees and a little open-aired dining area (there's an inside one too) and birds and chirping. Really good first impression.

Location: not much of a view from the windows, but the location is perfect. Right in the middle of the French Quarter, very close to the promenade and a number of restaurants and sights.

My wife and myself have just returned after a 3 night/4 day stay at Hotel du Parc, Pondicherry. We found the location very central to almost everything. The hotel is just a short walk to the Promenade, the Musuem, the Park, the Ashram and the main shopping places. The Governor's residence is bang next door. The hotel is located in the upmarket French Quarters.

The rooms are excellent for the price and the restaurant serves very tasty food. The service is topnotch with exceptional service from Ravi, Robert and the other enthusiastic guys. We would highly recommend this hotel for those looking for "value for money" and a good location for shopping/sightseeing.

Four friends and I spent four relaxing days at the Hôtel du Parc. The hotel staff, especially Ravi, Robert and Loganathan, were very kind and warm and made our stay most enjoyable. We felt more like we were visiting friends or family rather than staying in a hotel in a foreign land. And while friendly, the staff were always most discreet and aware of the needs of guests' privacy.

This restored 17th century colonial villa is small and has only ten rooms. It has a restaurant with tons of windows overlooking the small courtyard where you there is also an open-air balcony. The restaurant staff were kind, pleasant and accommodating, especially serving us past the normal hours on our arrival day. I appreciated the gentle and professional service of the manager of the restaurant (the fellow with the goatee).

The hotel’s central location is probably one of the best in the French Quarter. Hôtel du Parc is located one block from the Elephant Temple with a real live elephant, two blocks from the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, two blocks from an international ATM, three blocks from Bharathi Park and about four blocks from the beach. Nehru Street, where the hotel is located, has many shops, book stores, sweet shops etc. There is even a health food store about four blocks away. Although it is close to all points of interest, it remains a quiet and calm place. The manager pointed out to me that the windows have double-pane glass, which helps keeps out noise. The calm and tranquility of both the hotel and Pondicherry were a welcome relief from the hectic lifestyle of Kolkata, our previous stop. Pondicherry’s fresh sea air was incredibly refreshing!

The hotel has wired Internet access available at a dedicated terminal and has a wire available for laptops in its courtyard. I hooked up my laptop to the wire in the courtyard on several occasion and was never charged. In fact, the manager always came by to ask if I needed an extension cord for a power hook up.

One area I would recommend for improvement is the breakfast. It consists of either and Indian selection or an egg, toast and muffin offering. Fresh juice, coffee and tea are also included. On at least one day they ran out of muffins and on more than one occasion the service was a bit slow.

Overall, a highly recommended hotel.

Incredible hospitality. This the second time in three months that we decided that we would like to spend our long weekend at Du parc. We did not want to even have a meal anywhere outside as the continental food there is something we did not want to miss. The Captain and the Chef were extremely careful to remember our menu that we enjoyed the previous time and though it was not on their list this time, they still made it a point to serve us what we had enjoyed. Though the property is in the middle of town, its amazing how quite and comfortable the place is.The staff at the hotel from the reception to the back end need to be credited. Above all, the Director of the hotel made time to have our sincere feed back and to share the plans that he had made for Xmas and New Year.

An overhead balcomy has been constructed at half the height of an ancient mango tree. This area is also a dining area. The restaurant food was superb. The hotel staff are very welcoming. The canopied decking area outdoors is a wonderful place to sit and relax and read with a coffee or a beer.
The rooms, although simply furnished, have a luxurious feel of days gone by.
The Du Parc is in the centre of Pondi, yet it is quiet and peaceful inside.
A lovely place to stay and I would not hesitate to go there again.
This is a very different experience to a modern branded chain hotel.

Hotel du-parc is an erstwhile french heritage building now restored to its present shape. The rooms retain their old world charm, are clean, huge and give quite a luxurious feel. For a few days we felt as if we had been transported to the french era. Rooms are very nice and very comfortable to relax and enjoy....
Staff is very friendly and helpful.

They provide breakfast included, that is ok, but nothing out of this world, there are much better options around Pondicherry... some great French Bakeries.

We booked this hotel for our extended weekend holiday at Pondicherry in April 2011. I booked online through a travel website due to close proximity to shore and its central location and we wanted to stay at an old colonial house and this hotel was one in the past.

We arrived at 9 AM and were offered an early check in (though booking mentioned 12 noon). Room was clean and aesthetically decorated (though little smaller for my liking). Staff and Manager were very courteous. Room service was also decent.

Hotel has an restaurant/bar and a canopy coffee shop (our room was overlooking the canopy). We ventured out and tried many known restaurants including much acclaimed Rendezvous (which was a bitter disappointment). We were taken aback by the variety in Du Parc's restaurant menu and quality of food. They offer India and French cuisine and everything ate was well cooked and well served by hotel staff that was very humble and always smiling.

Hotel is hardly 5 mins walk from shore where you have Gandhi statue, 2 mins walk from Aurobindo ashram and 2 mins from Gandhi market. Well connected even late at night, since you have an auto stand outside hotel.

Only thing I didn't like was morning complimentary breakfast which wasn't well served and cooked.

Very well kept hotel with excellent staff and very good customer service.
Rooms are comfortable & cosy with good facilities.
Food & Meals are tasty, healthy, freshly prepared and served.
Pricing of the rooms, facilities and food are economical/ moderate.

Coming towards the end of hectic two week tour with mostly one night stands this hotel was an oasis of calm and relaxation. The staff were helpful and courteous and room and amenities good. My only minor criticism was my room (10) had a balcony which overlooked the open air restaurant - bit noisy at times. The location of the hotel in the airy colonial quarter was convenient for pretty well everything. A very nice place to stay at reasonable cost.

This is a hidden gem of a hotel. I would recommend this to travellers looking for an authentic Pondicherry experience.
Set in the heart of the French Quarter in Pondicherry (known as White Town for the building colours), it is a charming little hotel with no more than a dozen rooms.
They have three restaurants, though we only ate breakfast there once (average food). We preferred going outside for meals to other restaurants in the area. The best thing about Hotel Du Parc is its great location, neat and elegant rooms. The bathroom was really designed well, and all the furnishing was of excellent quality.
We enjoyed staying in our room (No. 4) with the extra loft with a bed (perfect for a child or a third person).

Me and My wife were planning a trip to Pondicherry since a long time. As Pondicherry is famous for its French Quarters, we wanted to stay bang in the middle of it and some place which is close to sea beach as well.
As i started searching on net for that perfect place, the usual suspects in pondicherry came up in the top results. I wanted a sea facing room, but none was available. On one of the sites, I found some really praise for this little known hotel "Du Parc". I checked the website and decided, lets try the luck. I booked the place over phone. The staff was courteous and really accomodating.
We drove down from bangalore to Pondicherry and arrived there by 1 PM. Locating the hotel wasnt difficult as it is located bang opposite to the famous Ganesh Temple. On the first look itself, the hotel looked pleasant, calm and inviting. It is a 17th century french villa converted into a small boutique hotel.
The room was very spacious. Bathroom and toilet were seperate, but clean. THe room was also clean, and there was a small attic with a small bed and reading lights. It has a high ceiling and large french windows, giving it an authentic, old world look.
We were given complimentary welcome drink, which was indeed refreshing.
The hotel has a open verandah with a stilt top open restaurant. It also has a closed airconditioned restaurant for those who want to escape the sweltering heat. Service was fast, with quite a few creole cuisine to choose. Here again staff was courteous and helpful.
Aurobindo Ashram, beach, ganesh temple, market, everything is within half a KM radius from the hotel, thus making it a really wonderful option to stay.
Its a highly recommeded place to stay for the price which it charges.

We opted for the suite which was lovely! - especially the huge doors which made us feel like midgets and the wonderful shower. We looked around at a few others hotels in town and this was by far the friendliest and also the most tastefully decorated. One small gripe - breakfast wasn't great and in fact on the first morning our only option was egg and toast.

Great Rooms, Amazing location! The rooms have been designed with great taste. We stayed in deluxe rooms. Its in the french colony itself right opposite the manakkula vinayakar temple. The park, ashram and the beach are walkable distances. The food was good. Breakfast buffet had sparse selection. If you are a south indian food lover then the menu does not offer much. We wanted some pongal for our little one but that was not available for breakfast (that was a shame)! But overall, a really nice memorable stay!

This small hotel with 10 rooms and a friendly staff is a little oasis in the middle of busy Pondicherry. Located within the heart of the French part of town. it's a brisk 10 minute walk from many of the attractions of this little city. The hotel is well maintained and has lovely rooms done up in the typical french influenced ambience of the town. The hotel's in-house restaurant La Maree serves excellent French, Indian and South Indian cuisine, but as remarked by another reviewer (whom I am glad I listened to) the prawns are simply heavenly. You must ask the staff to serve you with the south indian spice prawns in a dry preparation, it is the perfect accompaniment to a glass of the excellent wine also available within the hotel.

Hotel Du Parc is a cute little place located in the centre of Pondicherry, but tucked in to one of its small lanes. The hotel only has 10 rooms so you should book well in advance. The rooms are cozy and cute with lofts in each one. The hotel is lovely with trees and plants all around and the restaurants are quite good as well. A great place to stay in for the family and very centrally located.

My husband and I stayed at the Du Parc Hotel for about a week (we were living in Room 3 which is colonial style). The location of the hotel was very convenient and important tourist places like the Promenade (Mahatma Gandhi statue), Shri Aurobindo Ashram, Bharathi Park, War Memorial, Vinayaka temple, Museum,Notre Dame des Anges church were at a walkable distance. The hotel is located at Nehru street which is full of shops.
The hotel staff was very helpful (specially Murugan at the reception) & are willing to provide all the required information one can ask for. The food at the hotel is out of the world. The indian, continental cuisines were mouth watering - if you do not eat at the Du Parc, you have missed a tasty meal at Pondy.

Thanks to the Du Parc team we had an enjoyable stay & do not have a bit of regret for staying there. Nothing let us down- the rooms, the food, the service, the hospitality everything was par excellence. Totally value for money.

Special thanks to Murugan for all the help during our stay.

Keep up the good work guys.

Unsatisfied with the hotel we booked online, we stumbled upon Hotel Du Parc while driving around the streets of Pondicherry. From the imposing orchids at the gate to the grandeur of the room décor, we were bold over. The French Villa kinda look further added to charm. This is prefect for couples or friends who come to Pondicherry to beat the city stress and relax.

Awesome heritage hotel converted from parts of a mansion. we reached pondicherry early in teh morning and had requested for an early check in which they gave us and was a great help to sleep away some of the tiredness. as this place is bang in the center of all things imp, we just walked to the places of interest like Le Cafe on beach, aurobindo ashram, the various churches and even restaurants and boutiques and the main market down the road. the breakfast is great and served on wooden terrace which, lucky for us, was straight outside our room..the terrace is shaded by lush palms and mango trees and even spied a squirrel grabbing a sugar cube from one of the tables and making a run for it...we stayed for 2 nights and had a whale of a time...the room had a large double bed and the bathroom had natural light all day long filtering through glazed glass. the curtains were thick and kept the sun out in the mornings and lets us wake at our own pace. there's a small auto stand 1 min away from where u can get autos to go to Auroville or paradise island. bargain and fix a rate right in the beginning. if you love south indian food (the vegetarian kind), then adayar ananda bhavan 1 min away is an awesome place (has great south indian filter coffee too along with other things). other restaurants we frequented were Satsanga, Le Dupleix (loved this place so much that we had 2 of our meals here!), Rendezvous, Le Cafe (again a fantastic place on the beach- had cold coffee once and Cortado the other time and their madeleines are super! the missus loves her coffee seriously and was hooked to this place.. would gladly go back to pondicherry and du parc again. the place puts u in a totally different laid back frame of mind......

Our current holiday made us miss our time at Du Parc's - We miss the comfort and cleaniness of our room, missed the personal touch of the chef in catering to our customized dining needs and the infamous Mr. Ravi 's spontaneous "at your service" attitude.
(he really is amazing as described by many on this forum )

The excellent location of the hotel allowed us to to walk through all the "Rues" comfortably. It was a one-of-a-kind, refreshing experience to walk past very clean, paved streets, flanked by buldings heavily influenced by colonial French architecture.
It made me regret buying a house in Bangalore and trading the serenity and beauty that would have come with buying one in Pondicherry instead! :-)

Food options outside of Du Parc didn't meet with much success for us. The Bistro's overrated ambience, poor service and preferential treatment towards foreigners was as dismal as their Prawns in Jamaican Sauce! The Veg Pasta isn't worth a mention as well.

This was a good enough reason to feast contentedly at the only place that never failed to delight your plate and palate - Du Parc.An awesome eating experience whether inside the restaurant or under that old tree-covered terrace; chettinad or italian. Presentation of food and dessert was simply world-class!
Overhearing guests ask Mr. Ravi for the best restaurant in town made me want to butt in and share my experience of food in Du Parc.

Breakfast was the only area for improvement. Detailed feedback to Mr.Ravi on how they could improve on various aspects like serving hot breakfast and making sure that everything served was fresh was given; he did promise to look into it reporting that this was a shared concern expressed by recent guests (during sep 09) as well.

All said and done, this hotel truly runs all 10 rooms with its best foot forward - with personal attention to its guests. We're definitely returning this year to beat Bangalore's heat and noise !

We found Hotel du Parc in Pondicherry by accident in December 2007 and liked it so much we stayed a week. The hotel is a recent conversion of the former French Governor's house from the 17th century. It has only about 8 rooms. There is a central courtyard with a 300 year old mango tree where you can dine or just sit around and relax. The rooms are comfortable and the staff very helpful and friendly. Free use of the internet and lots of helpful advice about places to visit.

My daughter and I stayed here for 2 nights in room 1, which has a window to the street and another to the outside reception area. Much to our surprise, noise was not a problem at all.
The building itself from the outside, looks quite French and is painted a pale yellow cream and white. It is an easy walk to all parts of the city and is located in the quieter end of a busy (daytime) street. Opposite is a reasonable vegetarian restaurant called Suguru.
Back to the room...it is off an open air foyer which looks quite attractive and is accessed by double french doors. The bed was king sized and very comfortable, but the sheets were quite stained as were the pillow cases but they did otherwise look like they had been "washed". A small staircase led to a mezzanine area with a single mattress on the floor.
Toilet was separate with a fan, shower had no window and no fan, so was rather like a sauna. Hot water was plentiful. The towels were very grey in colour (were originally white)
There was a minibar with water for sale (not free). No safe in room, but there was a very efficient a/c, the filter of which blew dust onto the bed from time to time! Yuk!
The whole room needed a good dust and wipeover, a problem which many Indian places seem to have.
Staff were pleasant and tried very hard to help.
Breakfast was mediocre...freshly squeezed grape was nice (drank rather cautiously)
toast and jam very sweet, omlette just ok. Tried Idleys one morning and they were rather tasteless and accompanying sauce very watery. Coffee not good.
Dont bother with dinner there, found it very bland. Try Suguru accross the road.
It would have been an atmospheric place to stay except it needed a good clean from a westerners point of view.

It is hard to beat the location, right in the heart of the Ashram area. Add a heritage property, an enticing name and the potential loomed high. However, the place was disappointing. The room we had was a loft, with a bed on the floor of the upstairs loft. The bathroom and whatever storage and sitting provided in the room were downstairs. The entire setup was both impractical and inconvenient. One could not use the room for anything other than sleeping. Each time we opened the room door, a mosquito invited itself into the room. Even though goodnights were provided, this was not a pleasant experience. The room rate included breakfast, but it might as well have not. The fare provided was pathetic and almost inedible. The restaurant was just not inviting enough for us to try it for a meal. The staff were pleasant and courteous enough, but that was not enough to bring the hotel up to par. There are many better choices in Pondicherry in this price range.

The initial charm of the quaint colonial bungalow soon vanishes with the sight of stained table cloths and not so good food. we were 4 and booked one deluxe room and one suite room. While the suite room was nice the deluxe room was cramped and uncomfortable. The service was good but I do believe that with a little bit of renovation and creativity this can be a great place to stay at Kabini. I would strongly reccommend you stay away from the restaurant as the food leaves a lot to be desired, the hidesign cafe just down the road is nice and so is the buffet at promenade hotel which is about 5 mins away. Another major draw back is parking. Located in a busy street driving your own car to this hotel can be an absolute nightmare.

We had very high expectations of the place, even though it was not a complete disappointment, we cannot claim that we were overwhelmed with the place.

Pros:
1, Too good a location, its in the heart of the town, closer to the beach, ashram, major cafe's, shopping places, railway station.
2. Service is very good. People are very cheerful, and try their best to make you feel comfortable and happy.
3. Food is pretty decent, and the idea of using a fake canopy gels pretty well for breakfasts

Cons:
1. Cleanliness. The bathroom floor, shower curtains were stained. Most importantly the towels had yellow stains on them.
2. Hot Water supply. I don't know whats wrong with their water heater, if you forget to take bath before 9:30 am, say goodbye to a hot bath
3. Checkin/checkout. They have a strict 12am checkin/checkout time. Its highly inconvenient as all buses/trains mainly reach pondicherry at around 6am, and leave by only 10pm.
4. Pricing: at 3200Rs per night, their standard room is not really value for money. It does not have elegance of what a heritage villa should have, instead its a pretty normal room. Even the villa itself does not look even a bit fancy. Considering the other three cons, we thought the place was overpriced.

We stayed here for 2 nights. We were in pondicherry to spend our wedding anniversary, and explore the city especially auroville. The location is just fantastic, very close to the french quarters but also close the other half of the city with the bazars etc. Pondicherry is a great city to just walk around. The first morning we reached, the breakfast service was literally non-existent, I wondered if it was because only Indians were there. We were a bit skeptical where we landed up. But this changed completely by evening. The restaurant seemed very busy and staff was quicker and served very good breakfast. The room was comfortable and clean. However, one bulb was not working and we asked to repair, it was not repaired when we came back. Cleanliness is good. The beds were comfortable. The towels definitely needed to be changed and they should buy new towels. We never got hot water, and sometimes in the morning the cold water tap didn't work. I thought it was because the lady downstairs was washing dishes in the morning. We stayed in room 9.

We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights. The hotel is overrated on tripAdvisor and therefore this review. The staff was friendly including the manager (Ravi) but there were plenty of problems. The towel in the bathroom was torn and they replaced it immediately. The refrigerator had problem and there was a bad odor in the room. They had to finally remove the refrigerator from the room. I guess only the first 4 rooms (#1-4) are worth it and have that colonial touch. The location is good as it is in the french quarter and there are plenty of restaurants near-by including Satguru bang opposite. Du Parc's own restaurant (La Maree) is also a good option. Overall, an average hotel with friendly staff.

The breakfast was horrible-limited choice and stale croissants.
Highly overpriced for what they had to offer.

Hotel Du Parc
Pondicherry

DO NOT EAT AT THEIR RESTAURANT.
I BECAME HIGHLY SICK AFTER EATING THERE.
I GOT A STOMACK INFECTION_ I WAS SICK FOR 6 DAYS FOR THE REST OF MY TRIP_
I WAS PUT UNDER ANTIBIOTICS INTRAVENIOUS IN A DOCTOR OFFICE IN MUMBAI TO STOP THOSE G*** AND BLEEDING FROM MY ***

PLEASE, WHO EVER YOU ARE, THRUST ME, DO NOT EAT THERE.
WE ATE THERE FOR DINNER, LUNCH AND BREAKFAST, I WISH I NEVER DID!!

The food took 2 hours to come, it was all wrong. I was given meat, I am a strict vegan, and I had asked specifically to make sure not to bring any ROTTEN DEAD ANIMAL FLESH around my plate-

They mixed up everything. What is said on the menu is WRONG_ Cheese remains ONLY Indian Cheese_
Nothing is properly cleaned and they do not use mineral or boiled WATER! Everybody else around us had the same issues, waiters CONSTANTLY mixed up our plates and our food. We were all so annoyed to waste our times.

I was fine for 2 weeks in India in the worse places I had gone deep north deep east BUT MANAGED TO GET SICK AT HOTEL DU PARC IN FRENCH PONDICHERRY-

We arrived last minute, we got 30 percent off for their SUITE which was not reserved.- NICE-
French diplomats would have lived in there… interesting.
Beautiful- I have to say ( unless you take the suite I cannot judge for the rest).
THE MANADGMENT OF THIS HOTEL IS A DISASTER, it does not matter how good it looks, the quality is ZERO.

Highly disrecommend.

We were looking for a quaint French hotel with lots of character and great service. Since it was a long weekend we couldn't get a room at the Dupleix where I had stayed earlier. So we turned to trip advisor and chose hotel du parc based on the great reviews. We ended up getting a suite since no rooms were available. We reached the hotel to discover the suite on the ground floor right next to the reception and on the corner of a busy intersection so very noisy. The room was dirty with the bed linen and towels torn and unwashed. We had to ask twice for clean linen. Infact when I showed the towels to housekeeping they were shocked. Next morning when I asked for the breakfast options (it was included) I was told the vegetarian option was not available! The service was terrible and the attitude even worse. We ate all our meals out since the restuarant staff was unfriendly and the table linen very dirty! This was definitely the worst hotel ever! Overpriced and overrated!!!

would ask people to think before booking here unless you are very sure you get rooms1,2,3,4. we had placed a booking a week in advance and i had requested for room 1 and 4. they sent an email confirmation for these rooms. we also mentioned that if these rooms were not available do let us know and we would book elsewhere. on reaching the hotel, they showed us room 2 mentioning that 1 and 4 are booked for more than a week and then the second room they showed us was this smelly room on the first floor. when we spoke to the guy who made our reservation he said that he only confirmed the rooms 1 and 4 99% and now he had guests and could not give thesame. extremely unprofessional. we decided to walk and find another hotel. save yourself the trouble if they do not give the duplexroomsas mentioned by others on the forum. the other rooms are really bad and not worth the money spent.
