Wow.. amazing stay in Grand Palace... I have been there to Yercaud on 28th, Oct 2011. Stayed in Grand Palace for 2 days and enjoyed a lot. The services are awesome and the food is really good. I have been there with my husband and 11months old baby, i was worried about the food before i start from my place to Yercaud. since this is the first time, am taking my kid along with me for a travel. But once i reached Grand Palace, it serves all the desired food beyond the menu's listed in the card and the services are really really good. Enjoyed the climate and it was a very good stress relief time. We didn't roamed a lot, but enjoyed the hotel amenities and SPA. Especially the SPA was excellent. Waiting for the next time, to go and enjoy in Grand Palace. Yercaud.

Grand Palace, Yercaurd is a wonderful place, the location of hotel is very good, room was very neat and tidy, there was not delay allotting room, breakfast or even for checkout.

The time taken to confirm the room booking was also very less and mode of booking was also essay.

The pricing is very reasonable. We stayed here for two nights

Though we had only break fast here it was very good.

Nice, clean hotel, decent size rooms. Excellent service. They really make you feel comfortable.
The place is about 1.5 -2 Km from the town centre - and there is really nothing but buildings around the hotel. You could walk around, but roads are not good, and dark at night. Anyway, if you want to walk around in Yercaud, you would choose the more famous places - and would hire a car to go to those places. More variety / selection - larger spread is needed in the restaurant. The attitude and service was good – Chef was willing to prepare stuff not in the menu, if it was possible to do so. Maybe because we chose off season - practically no one else in the hotel at that time - the spread was limited. I have to say that I loved staying at the hotel - and would recommend the place for its hospitality to everyone. I can't think of a single instance where they have refused my requests. You need a vehicle to travel around - and the Receptionist can arrange for it. wifi internet is available in the lobby only.

Awesome location
Great views
Decent food
Good facilities
everything is nearby - please walk around to explore the city, cab & transportation is required if you have enough time on you.
The weather in June is even more perfect to walk around.
Very helpful and polite staff
Friendly reception - they allowed us easily to early check in & late check out. It is expensive and not really for budget travellers but they make sure they give you your money's worth.

We searched for this hotel on the internet. Their website gives complete idea about the hotel. We booked our rooms on the internet and the process was very smooth. When we reached the hotel we realised that what they claimed on their website was 100% reality. This hotel has the best location and the best view in the town. We had booked Deluxe Suites. Deluxe Suites have a great view of the valley. If you want 100% satisfaction you must book Deluxe Suites. They offer the best interiors; they overlook the lawns and have the best of valley view. We were lucky to have excellent weather during our 2 days stay. We enjoyed our breakfast on lawns. Food was superb!Since this is small place, you have to order food well in advance.Staffs were very polite and helpful. It is great place but do not expect 4 star amenities. Everything is very clean and comfortable. We will cherish memories of our lovely holiday in years to come.

Stayed for 2 Nights. Had booked "Junior Suite” & they gave me a room, which didn’t have any view. It had a Living room & Bed room. However, I would say this was definitely a DOWNGRADE for me.

Then when I informed in the reception, there was only one person who was there 24 hours till my stay, gave me a room (207) which was best one in the hotel. I should really thank him for the way he spoke to me when I was so hot at the lobby.

1. Reception: Had only one staff but the best. Anything if ask he would do & give an answer without saying no or sorry.

2. Restaurant: It needs some attention for the interiors & the layout. Service & taste of food was good.

3. Room Service: Room service has to be improved, since they have lack of staff. A special appreciation to manager even the food was delayed it was hot.

4. Spa: It is really bad. Charging to high & giving massage for only 30 Mins. Attitude towards the customer is really very bad.

5. Play room: There was no person in the play room. Each every time we have to go to the reception & poor follow in the reception has to track the person.

6. Swimming pool: swimming pool was under construction, but it will be the best pool in Yercaud,

Check out was smooth; I was really surprised when I came to know that the receptionist was the Front Office Manager.

Well, frankly, I was quite taken back by surprise by the whole package. The facilities are right there among the best anywhere, not just Yercaud. The reservation (online) is also very easy and the staff is also very friendly. The restaurant where buffett breakfast was served looked small, but the spread was wide. Though the room service is not prompt and the stay at the hotel still remains comfortable with daily change of service towels, bed cloths, pillow covers, and an ample supply of cosmetics. Wi Fi is accessible only in the lobby.

My stay in Grand Palace was very pleasant. I went from Chennai to Salem By train. Pick up was organised by the Hotel with Rs. 900. Hotel is situated on top of mountain. Lobby Area of the hotel is small. But I need to give credit to the management of the hotel on the cleanliness & good staff particularly in reception. Hotel is kept very clean; house-keeping is very good. Service wise also it's one of the best.

It was the treat being at "The Grandest palace at Yerkaud". The ambience was upto the standards set by its name, Its was at the highest MSL in the surrounding with the perfect weather to complement it. It was one of the best occcasion spend with familly, with the indoor games available. I have been to Yerkaud quiet a lot of times, but this was a memorable one. The cheery on icing was the view set from a location arranged to see salem from a eagle's view. Though the lighting was not adequate but was right that way as nature looks best at its original nature.

I and My Husband decided to have our honeymoon in Yercaud. Initially we stayed in one hotel for just a night and we both weren't too much impressed abt the stay. So we decided to move on. Checked out About Hotel Grand Palace with a person! As love @ first sight, we just loved the atmosphere, ambience & everything. That moment we decided we can’t have our honeymoon anywhere better! The rates were moderate and well affordable for a honeymoon couple. The Quality of service, complimentary breakfast & Dinner, hospitability of the ppl around, immediate response to our calls, cleanliness, Valley view from each rooms... We stayed for almost 3 full days and started back to our home on the 4th day only..We never feel like finishing our honeymoon esp cos of the comfort feeling what we had in this hotel. Such a relaxed and peaceful stay. No gross or rather no complaints regarding the service made us to enjoy our honeymoon. What else u want and expect from a good decent hotel???? Everyone might not feel the same as what we have experienced cos opinions and expectations definitely differ. But as far as me and my husband are concerned, we bet u will have a pleasant stay in this hotel and its worth what u pay!!

I can't describe my stay much better than this statement, "It couldn't be better!" It was smooth and wonderful, and I was very well served.
I went there during the weekdays and the hotel was not much crowded, which i liked the most. My children enjoyed there in the lawn, and not only that, we also enjoyed the Bon-fire sessions at night with light music.
Nice comfortable room, but what I disliked that they only provided mattress when we opted for more beds for my children.
Overall, apart from the above issue my stay was really very relaxing & comfortable.
Like to come again at Grand Palace in future.

The hotel is situated on the top hill near to most of the local sight-seeing places. The market is walk able distance, but for that you have to visit there on Sunday. The reception staff is cooperative in arranging local tours by cab/auto .The rooms are spacious & neat but the toilets are need to be improved. The food is delicious and tasty. There is more space for parking. The hotel is the best for the travelers that are coming on 4-wheelers and coming as a group.
During my stay, I enjoyed the atmosphere of the Hotel, the lawn view and during evening is a perfect place to enjoy the sun set. The staff are also very co operative & helpful. And the weather there was very good during summer. I wanted to visit there again for the winter with a small group.

As this was my first trip to Yercaud, I had little expectation of the quality and service, but I have been astounded by Grand Palace Hotel !!

The trip from the Salem railway station was around 01 Hours and the entrance to the hotel was very good facing the Yercaud Street...We are welcome with a welcome drinks. The service is good, extremely efficient, yet warm and welcoming - a perfect combination.
We friend stayed there on the ground level room, which got an extension to the Lawn & there in Lawn there is a small playing area & @ night Bon Fire session. Bedrooms are luxurious but what we really enjoyed is the Cloud9 bar. This Lounge is fantastic designed with comfortable sofa & good music system is an added asset of the Hotel

Over the last 25 years, I have been privileged to stay in some of the best hotels. This must be the best place to relax in Yercaud.

This is a superb hotel in the hill fort town of Yercaud - Few hours drive from Bangalore

We arrived Yercaud late one evening and didn't have a hotel arranged. We have seen many advisement (Banner) - First thing strike in my Mind Grand Palace Hotel & second option was GRT.- While proceeding onto the mountainous roads. I called my friend & he suggested me to choose GRAND PALACE.

Much to our surprise the prices were very reasonable, especially if you booked the Premium Room (which is facing a beautiful Valley). We got a good welcome from the Reception. The receptionist guy escort us to the Room. The rooms are plush and luxurious with a small balcony and outside the real fires which the staff will light for you on request.

The restaurant served us good food - it's the first place where I would have felt comfortable ordering absolutely anything on the menu. Service was pretty okay and all the staff were really friendly and helpful.

All in all I'd love to go back and spend more than a single night there in future.

Grand Palace is one of the most beautiful places in terms of its open space. To add to it, the weather at Yercaud is such that it rains every now and then, and that adds to the experience in a big way.
The location of the hotel is one of the best things. Every possible sightseeing point is ranges from 2km to 15 km from this hotel. The Hotel also try and do a lot of activities for children, which keeps them occupied. Rooms : do not have an air conditioner; Food is also good. I read about the room service here being very bad. However after staying there we found it was up to the standard.

The food is fantastic. It has a unique taste of the south Indian spices (specially from Tamil Nadu),

The overall experience is fantastic. It has very good massage and spa facilities also that one can certainly enjoy while being on vacation. A dream place to be - very different an experience!

They make u feel at home and put in that bit extra and go that extra mile to make you feel at home. We checked in for 2 nights, the moment we arrived, it gave me a feeling which is difficult to describe, felt very much at peace, some sort of inner happiness, very secure, it was wonderful. The staff was very nice, though our room was not ready, because we had arrived early, the staff showed us another room which was ready, my wife liked it very much, and they gave it to us. The hotel on the whole, its lawns, the way it has been built, are all wonderful. The spreads for all the meals was just too good, the service was wonderful, we made a request to stay for another night, which was at first rejected, because it was full, but to our luck when we came back that evening, the manager gave us good news, that we could stay for another day. Whenever we visit Yercaud would like to stay at Grand Palace once more.

We had planned for a trip to Yercaud with our family members and we had everthing pre planned. I guess.. only this hotel.. had a good website and so we booked the rooms online. the hotel website is too good and is easily navigable. We were impressed with the photos in the website it self. good thing about reservations is that you can reserve and pay online. Being a 3 star hotel, this hotel had online reservation system. Anyways, all other facilities in this hotel were too good. and the ambience in which the hotel is loacted in excellent.

Campfire is arranged every night and people have great fun there. Food is too good with alll varieties. . Room service is excellent. They do provide witha number f recreation.. Like Coffee estate visits, Perfume factory visits etc and games like badminton, kids pay area.. etc.

We completely enjoyed the trip and had a very good experience. Stay @ yercaud is expensive during prime season, because we dont get rooms that easily. Most of them are booked all the time during summer and peak season. This hotel is actually a bit expensive. But if one is more concerned about the facilities, infrastructure and a pleasurable stay, then you can go with this without a second thought.

We reached by 7 pm, exterior of the hotel looked very grand. we had booked the premium Room with the view of the silent valley, the room had an amazing view of the valley.

We were impressed with the in room facility, they had a refrigerator, Electric safe to hold my laptop, electric kettle with complimentary tea, coffee and milk powder sachets, complimentary bottles of mineral water,LCD tv, Dvd player, shower cubicles, and Hair dryer in bathroom, we had not expected this in yercaud. and for the price i think this is value for money.

Though the idea of "romantic candle night diner" didnt work out due to weather issues, i would recommend this place for anyone who wants to relax and enjoy serenity. The spa is expensive is not worth it but the Orange bar more than makes it up with nice music and friendly waiters to cater to your need. but if u plan to move out of the resort, it can get cumbersome as this is located in some hilltop and d next near "shop / convenience store" is around 2 km away.

Locataion of this hotel is superb, when you open your balcony door in the early morning the view of the valley is breath taking, one of the best views i have seen in south india. They have a lounge bar called Cloud 9, the place looked very trendy, the highlight was the service, the steward was so friendly and nice, though he was finding it difficult to communicate in engish. from the little research we had done this hotel has the best facility in the whole of yercaud, like the Ayurvedic spa, holiday activity center, 24 hours room service, banquet halls, lounge bar, ample car park and swimming pool (under construction).

For a short trip yercaud is a nice destination to visit.

Me and my gang of friends went to Yercaud in August 2009.
We were looking for a reasonably priced but a good hotel.
In Yercaud we found all the qualities we were looking for.
Not only did we get a good deal with the price, we loved the service provided.
Though we spend only nights only in the hotel, the stay was very calming and relaxed.
After a full day of site seeing, Inter games in the hotel liked T.T., Carroms, we loved to come back to the hotel..
Hotel Grand Palace has nice rooms and a very helpful staff. Personally I like the food very much
and the pastries were excellent.
And Moreover I like the bar which is having excellent collections of all the liquors .
If you are looking for quality hotels, my advise would be to go for Grand Palace!!

This hotel is located on a hill top giving a wonderful view of the area. We drove down to Yercaud from Bangalore in Oct '10. Road is very good and well maintained through Salem in Tamil Nadu. There are a couple of waterfalls en route to Yercaud from Salem. Once we finished a few hair-pin bends, it started getting foggy and cool. We reached this hotel at around 11 am. Parking space is vast and the hotel from the parking lot looks big. For the package, we got some food coupon worth Rs.1000 for 2 days. The variety in food was not that much and was not that tasty also. They have a gym which is well maintained. Spa is also quite good. At night, we had a stroll around the hotel. It was so foggy that we could not see anything 10 metres apart for a moment and when winds blew them, it was all clear. That was a beautiful experience. They have a room allotted for Table tennis, carrom, chess, etc. quite spacious. If I remember right, there is no swimming pool in the hotel. There is nothing much to see in Yercaud except a hill, a lake, etc. Staff are quite courteous. They have buffet dinners which are quite good. Outside the hotel, it is very silent and you can hear the sound of wind blowing. Only the immediate perimeter is well lit. It was a very good experience for us, more so because of the weather and the location of the hotel. I recommend this hotel among many other hotels in Yercaud.

Enjoyed the stay here. Initially got a room without the view, I asked the manager for an exchange and with in 2 hrs i was given a beautiful room with a balcony and a view of the valley. I went with my family and had a great time. My son is 2 yr old and he was wanting to be in the balcony for most of the time. You don't have much places to visit in Yercaud but this place is a nice get away from a mondaine life. Had order pastries to the room and they were sumptuous..
The toilets were also very clean. This is were i normally get ticked off, but this hotel is pick and span. I have attached a photo..
I feel its a value for money...

We stayed here during the Aug 31 - Sep 2nd long weekend. Overall we had a good stay here and would definitely want to come back.

We had done online booking but somehow the info did not reach hotel. Luckily i had called up one day in advance to check. Mr. Vinod at the reception was very helpful and offered to check with couple of other places. Luckily though there was a last minute cancellation, the hotel called us up and we got a room. In fact the offer was better than online booking (2nd night we had to pay only room tax). We got a valley view room, strongly suggest getting one of those. Excellent view.

Room was spacious, clean and good. No A/C but not needed in Yercaud - the cool, fresh air is wonderful ! The restaurant area has adjoining lawns and child play area. It overlooks the valley views and one can spend some time and just relax there.

We had our little baby and the hotel staff was helpful throughout - the kitchen in fulfilling our special requests and room service in delivering them promptly. Overall we always found the staff to be helpful and that made the stay with baby much more comfortable.

The major negative with this hotel is the food - in the buffet, they missed out on basic things like putting the 'food warmers' and so food can get cold. We had dinner buffet one day and while the food (can only speak about the veg) was tasty, getting cold was a problem and so we used to wait for the refill and pick it up then. The complimentary breakfast was decent but not consistent - the first day sambar was more like daal. However, they make some excellent chocolates, and we purchased some while checking out.

I looked up TripAdvisor reviews before choosing Grand Palace and was not disappointed. Courteous staff, well maintained rooms, awesome valley views and good food - what else does one need on a holiday! The complimentary breakfast buffet has an elaborate spread as well.

Yercaud itself does not have too many touristy spots, so this is a very good option for folks looking to basically have a leisurely holiday with family. There is a nice Spa as well, but we didn't use it on this trip. Highly recommend.

In a hamlet, this place offers best facilities in terms of stay , food , cleanliness & spectacular view of valley. The hotel staff are courteous & always tend to serve the guest for any kind of request at shortnotice. We thank them for arrangement of candle night dinner at short notice although such request has to be made 2 days in advance.
Spa at hotel is MUST visit & quite reasonable in price.. Here again staff are courteous & take care of your needs. Wonderful place of stay! Thanks.

Rooms here are not easily available specially on weekends. So if you are planning a trip to Yercaud, I would definitely recommend this hotel. Just make sure you book well in advance.

If you are going with family, you can just stay in the hotel and spend some quality time with your family.

Staff and the management are very professional, especially the General Manager, Food & Beverage Manager and the Front Office Manager - these three people seem to working very hard to keep all their guests happy and i am sure they succeed - I am an example.
To add to our relaxation, the spa at this hotel is also amazing, try out the tradiotional kerela massage - its just amazing.

I booked the hotel based on some reviews posted in Tripadvisor. The one thing that excited me the most is the hotel is located on the highest point of Yercaud. I traveled from Bangalore for a weekend trip to Yercaud. The road was very good and after 5 hours of drive I reached the hotel at around 1 PM. The hotel staffs were very friendly. I got a complimentary breakfast coupon along with the room keys. I opted for a valley view room which was far better than the lake view rooms. There is a very big lawn behind the hotel towards the valley. It was very well maintained. There were few view points with some benches. The lawn was just under the balcony of my room which means I had the best view of the valley. To my fortune, the weather was partially cloudy and the clouds hovering around were making the valley look like heaven. My wife and me decided to spend the all our time to enjoy this weather and the view from the room. Next morning when I got up at 7, it was unbelievable experience when I opened my balcony door, It was full of mist on the valley, the lawn and my balcony too. Apart from these, the food was good in the restaurant, though not excellent. There were few recreational activities, like computer games, Table Tennis etc. Overall it was good experience and I would recommend this hotel if you want to spend quality times with your spouse and kids. The rooms were not very expensive. Valley view rooms were 3000(incl. tax) per night.

Yercaud is less than 5 hrs drive from Bangalore and makes for a perfect weekend get away.
Grand Palace Hotel is located on a hillock overlooking the Yercaud lake on one side and Valley full of lush green jungles on the other side....
The place is very well maintained and is grand by Yercaud standards.
The rooms are also pretty large and clean..I think they they also have some suites for the people travelling with families.

They have a good functional resturant where you can get decent food from North and South Cusisines.

We stayed at Hotel Grand Palace, Yercaud for a quiet family weekend break. The hotel was highly recommended by a friend who had stayed there earlier, and I must say that we were not disappointed. The hotel has 2 types of rooms - one facing the lake and the other facing the valley. We chose the one facing the lake which gave a nice view of the lake. The location is very close to the lake and some other main attractions. The staff was courteous and helpful. The rooms were well maintained and clean. The restaurant serves buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food isn't great, lacks variety and is quite expensive for the quality. Would advise that you have your meals elsewhere. The hotel has an in house SPA and offers free Yoga sessions in the morning and bonfire in the evening. Overall I would recommend the hotel to anybody wanting to have a peaceful time.

I decided to drive down from Bangalore to Yercaud. I found good reviews about this hotel and decided to book the place there. The hotel is located on a hill top with amazing view of mountains. In case you dont have your own vehicle you will have to climb up around 400 to 500 meters everytime you want to come to the main market.

Some of the rooms has amazing view. The hotel was quite new, I remember they were still fixing some doors when I visited. The room was decently spacious, with a private balcony and very clean toilet. Though the breakfast was decent, the main course was not to our taste. All the three days we had food at Lake forest. They had a good buffet for 400/-.

Yercaud is perfect for a weekend getaway from Bangalore. Our first accommodation choice there was GRT Grand Trails (based on online reviews) but were too late! Had to settle for Grand Palace which was not a let-down however. There was however a bit of confusion in getting the room of our choice though, and the receptionist was actually showing impatience and irritation. The room itself was plush and luxurious. The view of the valley is really engrossing (insist on rooms facing the valley, rather than ones facing the front). We spent a lot of time just admiring the terrace facing the valley. Food was bad though - too greasy. Breakfast was good, but not a buffet (on that day owing to a wedding party at the hotel). For recreation, there is a room with TT, computer games and balloon-shooting. We did not avail of the spa facility, though.

The highlight of this hotel was the location, it is situated in a small peak once you enter Yercaud town and the view of the town from this hotel is excellent. We can also view the lake.

There was a bon fire in the night with a light music overlooking the hills and the dinner was very good.

We had been to this hotel in May 2011 for couple of nights. The hotel is situated atop a hill, so the best thing about it is the view. If you stay, pick the back rooms with valley view. My room had a large balcony that stretched right out overlooking the valleys, and the view is magnificent over the green hills all around you. Not to mention the clear cool mountain air, and the sunrise over the valley is worth the additional cost.

A good way to spend time here is to explore the wooded area to the side of the hotel - rocky and covered in silver oak, good to walk about in the mornings. Aside from the surroundings and the view, there is little to recommend this hotel. The food is sub-standard, and while there is a bar, I did not visit it. There is also an ayurvedic spa which I did try but was disappointed - the service was slow and the masseurs didn't appear to have much experience. A play and activity room has some table tennis, foos ball, chess and other such games as well.

The rooms themselves are big but could be a little cleaner and better for the charges. Staff were helpful. All in all, a good place - but one that could do much better if they paid more attention to the food and condition of the rooms.

The hotel facility and infrastructure was great. Their service need to scale a lot to manage more people which only comes by experience. They are heavily understaffed and there was total chaos in the dinner buffet, room service etc during my stay. The front desk team needs more experience..I called up 1/2 hour before my checkout but when I come down it was not even close to being ready. I finally ended up just swiping my card without the bill, as i had to rush to catch a train. It is unfortunate that they did not care to send a copy of it to my address. Overall, I wouldn't call this worth the big bucks!

Last thing, I won't do justice to my trip if i don't mention about the SPA. It was really an exciting experience at the spa - the package and the staff. Atleast am a bit happy that the people at the SPA were able to offset the service dip at the hotel facility, The cloud bar was good as well - service and staff!!

Room was spacious, but sheets, pillow covers, towels etc were dirty. called up house keeping and the sheets that they brought to change were not any good. They have to get fresh linen I think :)..The floor tile design gives u a feeling that it was never mopped. Not so impressive there. Dinner.... 449 inc tax per person, was a joke. The biggest problem I faced was that the rooms were not sound proof. I could clearly hear what the guests in the neighbouring room were talking. I've booked 2 rooms with this hotel through travelguru during 15Aug2010. I drove from bangalore to Yercaud

Location :(Superb) The location is really superb. The Hotel is on the edge of a cliff overlooking the yercaud lake on one side and the valley on the other side. They have a nice sit out garden from which you will probably get the best scenic view of the valley and it is really worth spending time there.

Rooms: (OK) The rooms are just normal and lacks the basic amenities like refrigearator, drinking water, coffee maker etc which they claim to be available in the room. After a day I came to know that you need to call the front desk for every small thing.

Service: (Poor) The room service really needs to be improved a lot. You need to call them 2 hours before hand to get even a coffee. You need to request the manager to serve you the snacks in the evening time at valley facing garden.

Food :(Average)Don't expect much from the food side and don't try the new stuffs as you will be misled about the test.

Worst Experience : Though there is point for hot water but you need to call them couple of times to get the hot water as it is a boiler based system. Can you imagine the hill station without hot water !!
Before the day of the travel when I've called the hotel staff so as to avoid any hassles on my arrival, they told me that I've upgraded to a suit and when I've reached there they gave us the suit. After 1 hour the manager came and asked us to check in to the valley facing room which was really inconvenient.

As named, this hotel is very grand from the outside. Because of this, I was expecting more from the rooms but I was disappointed. The rooms are very quickly being old and dilapidated because they are not being well maintained. Shower curtains are stained and dirty. The toilet bowl had a label on it that said 'cleaned for your protection' but when I looked at the toilet bowl rim, there were some spots that came off when I rubbed it with a dry piece of toilet tissue. Doesn't seem like it was cleaned to me!

The worst part about this hotel is the linens. All linens are spotted and look unclean. In fact, the bed linens had dark spots of mold on them, I kid you not. I asked for new linens only to find the same moldiness on those. Yercaud is a very moist area but that is no reason to have to sleep on moldy bed linens.

The funniest thing to me was that at the end we had to pay a 'luxury tax' - I didn't really feel like I was staying in luxury here. My recommendation would be to stay somewhere else.

Went to Yercaud last week. Hotel was much advertised all over Yercaud, and I even checked the palace out, looked ok. I thought Id have a good, enjoyable stay, but eventually, it turned out to be just OK, nothing great to rave about.... Here are the likes and dislikes for the Grand Palace Hotel....

Liked:

- Lovely location, right on top of the hill. Great views of the Silent Valley.

-The comfortable room. Always take the ones on the ground floor - silent valley view rooms as it opens on to the lawn.

-The LCD in the room and the idea of renting out free CD's

-the games room - we played carroms and a game of table tennis

-the reception staff were polite and efficient. AND UNLIKE THE EARLIER REVIEW - I FOUND EVERY ONE SPEAKING EXCELLENT ENGLISH......

- A very good gym....

I Disliked::::

- The Overpriced and expensive restaurant. The portions are very small, and the food nothing great to talk about. We ordered chicken chettinad for dinner and it was so watery, the water ran all over the plate leaving the spices sitting seperately. Pathetic Food. The Chef has to be warned about his cooking. For the price they charge, the portions were horribly small. Avoid eating here unless you come loaded with tons of cash and want to unnecessarily splurge. If this hotel wants to earn a reputation, it should improve the quality of its food and charge reasonably so more people could eat there... We ordered 3 coffees in our room through room service, and can you imagine, we were charged Rs.230 !!!! and the water, milk, sugar, coffee powder all came seperately.... bad enough we had to make our own coffee, but being charged 230 is a total rip off !

-The Spa....... the people there are totally dumb ( especially the women), and totally unprofessional. For 850, I had a general body massage that was to last 75 minutes, but in 60 minutes, I finished my bath and was back in my room. The massage is nothing great to talk about, lacks the original ayurveda style, and is more like playing with your body with oil. I never felt like I had a massage. 2 months ago, I stayed at sterling resorts and took a massage every day for 3 days, now thats what I call a massage there. I felt like the bones in my body were removed. So fresh and comfortable and much cheaper though the surroundings may not be that nice. So while you would be tempted to go get a massage, I would rather you visit Sterlings if you really want to experience a real ayurvedic massage. And their facials, less said the better, seems they are just experimenting with humans. The worst facial my wife ever had in her life for 600 bucks ! on the whole a total rip off ! Stay away from this place.

-Dont make the mistake of giving them your mobile number. I kept receiving sms aksing me to use their SPA till 11.30 pm. It was irritating and annoying.

-The lawns are drying up in February !!!!! can u imagine wot it would look like in May? Place lacks something called Plants, and i never saw anyone watering the lawns. Its sad, as this is the major selling point for this hotel, the beautiful greenery around, and they do not know how to maintain it.

Well, I wold not like to go back again, but I do hope this hotel would take my dislikes seriously and make sure they set things out right in their own interest.

I had been to Yercaud in 2004 and stayed at a different place. Back then, the Grand Palace hotel was under construction. Somehow they have managed to get the BEST location in town, with a breathtaking view of the valley and the lake. Going back in 2009, I was surprised to see it was still under construction, with only some 10 rooms occupied out of 43. I find from other reviews here that the location and food seem to be the only things worth while.

Yes, the food served is quite good and fairly economical (by city standards, if not by local). Service is a tad slow but the variety is good and the continental fare is comparable to decent hotels in Bangalore.

Not sure if I recommend this place to stay, it looked quite deserted to me. But I definitely recommend a visit here for lunch, while staying elsewhere nearer the lake.

I spent a couple of days in April 2006, the hotel was pretty and confortable even still under construction. Rooms were nice with a private balcony facing the back lawn and overlooking the wondeful view of the valley, Although, the most dramatic view is from the front, cause the hotel is situated on top of the hill that overlooks the lake.
The food was OK and the service also, both could be improved.

I visited again this place on Jan 2008, just for a drink, because of the good memories. What a bad impression I got! The greenish of the lawn vanished, the walls dirty and everywhere an abandonement feeling! It is a pity because the place is fantastic and the small village of Yercaud is developing quickly and needs a good structure down town.

This Hotel will be delightful when it's finished.
The views are dramatic, the rooms clean, light and airy and the food in the terrace cafe was delicious. Downside - The main restaurant was being refurbished, the bar is not completed and the 'spa, massage and jacuzzi' was still in it's concrete development stage but overall I'd return as it was so peaceful and scenic

The hotel has excellent location but unfortunately the management is pathetic. Incompetent in a nutshell to run the business. Service is awful. I don't blame the staff who are just picked up from anywhere without training. Half of the people don't know English. Front Desk Manager is inexperienced. We had some medical emergency and he mentioned staffs are on duty and can't help us. Next day they ran out of water bottle. Food is expensive but below average. View is great from the hotel. I wish if it can be run by any professional agency. Don't get fool by the website. Please don't visit unless you get first hand experience 6 months down the line.

I have stayed at Hotel grand palace Back in April 2009. Based on my past experiences I blindly booked my room at the hotel for the Weekend Stay at June 2011. Finally realized that things have changed a lot in the past 2 years.

After a long and tiresome drive from chennai, I was made to wait in the reception without even water for almost and hour. I had booked the rooms in advance from chennai and even made the payment on the internet. Even then i was made to starve and wait in the reception for a one hour. Finally after few harsh words, i was given a room. We had booked and paid for 2 rooms buy got only 1 after 1 hour of wait. After half hour, we got the second room.

Tired and hungry, we went to the restaurant. there was only an Expensive Buffet lunch available and no ala-carte available. The food was horrible and there was no variety at all.

The room service provide very limited snacks and their menu is like a single page.
Needless to say, this hotel has the best view of the hills next to GRT nature trails.
The Hotel was very comfortable to stay, But the food and service is below standards.
I had to visit shevroys Hotel for all breakfast lunch and dinner.

I had been to this trip with my family for weekend getaway to escape the mildly heat of Bangalore. Had been through the reviews and choose this hotel. The hotel is situated at a great location with great valley view but the rooms and food(especially breakfast) were a total let off. As we checked in the room we found butterflies/moths inside the room. As it got dark, there were lot of them outside and therefore we could not open the windows. With this there was absolutely no fresh air inside and it was getting really hot. We switched on the fan and found it was making a lot of noise. Because of the this i wasnt able to sleep the entire night. Fell for the USP of the hotel (natually cooled rooms).
The breakfast provided as complementary was as worst it could get. The dosa and idly were not prepared well. The potatoes were not even quarter cooked.
When we complained about all this to the manager, he apologies and says he can offer some discount and can compensate it during my next stay. This was totally disgusting. Overall i would say, it was a nightmare and pathetic choice of hotel at Yercaud.

The hotel which is supposed to be among the best properties in Yercaud is definitely something you should avoid. We were in the valley view rooms which offered a great view of the valley. But the Balcony was dirty , the hammock was not only dirty but had fungus all over it. The room was good and well appointed but not clean to the expectations from a 3star hotel. The food was good but the service terrible.

just got back after 3 day stay at this hotel. a few important things to know before you book. none of their rooms are airconditioned ( except their bar of course!!). some days in yercaud can be very hot.... reach 36degrees on may16th and really horrible. on top of that, there was no water in the taps the whole day. the staff kept assuring me that the problem will be solved in 15 minutes throughout the day - finally late night water supply was restored but the water was so muddy that it was just not possible to use the toilets throughout the day. imagine that after a hot day's drive from bangalore. the staff were entirely unapologetic and looks like this problem keeps recurring and some people in the housekeeping actually made fun of me. water supplied in the toilets was muddy throughout the stay. and finally even on the day of checkout on 19th may, there was no water in the toilets again...!!!
some staff, like saravana were pleasing, but most others were very putoffish. the restaurant staff work mechanically without much camraderie and also appear stand-offish.
service is prompt and the veg food is probably the best available in yercaud. prices are really fantastic and for the small portions that they serve, are exorbitant. more expensive than some of the finest restaurants in bangalore.
there is really nothing much to do in this hotel than sit on the lawns facing the valley, which can be breathtaking depending on what the weather is like. God Bless you if it is a hot day and there is NO AIRCON in the rooms...!
cleanliness is satisfactory, and in fact very good.
gym room is excellent with good equipment. i wonder how they can advertise it as a spa, without properly qualified spa staff. the massage area looks neat and clean, but the staff appear to be a set of giggling amateurs.
games room has reasonable facilities, but has no fan or aircon, and it can be a tiring day to spend in this hot hole.
there is no greenery except of the small lawn behind the hotel, and being at an open place at the top of a hill, it can get really really hot on a hot day. on a day that is cool, it can be pleasant!! all in all it is a concrete 1 star blotch in a nature paradise. and worse is they have the practice of keeping harsh halogen lamps and window lights throughout the night. if coupled with a hot night and scores of insects that attract towards the lights, i'll hardly be surprised if anybody can sleep at all with hot and humid air, closed windows and curtains to keep out the light and insects and NO AIRCON...!!

and about yercaud, less said the better. it is a dirty place. and the only highlight can be a superb drive on an excellently laid & maintained loop road, starting from yeracud, through manjakuttai, semangadi through nagalur back to yercaud. it is about 40 kms drive in scenic estate roads. do take time to stop by some interesting side roads and take short walks inside. this can be the highlight of your yercaud visit.

Went to Yercaud to spend some quality time with family.Best part of the hotel is the location. It is away from town but not too far.View from the rooms is excellent. One side the lake and the other side is the silent valley.
Besides this the stay was terrible. You rarely find a staff member who could speak any language other than tamil.I could speak english, hindi, telugu and punjabi but since I did not have tamil it was a no go.Even asking for simple tasks like changing of linen took a lot of effort and sign language.Either the staff did not unerstand a 'do not disturb sign' or they did not care but they kept on ringing the bell.
Regarding the restaurent nobody knows what a toast is and kept on serving raw bread.Peak hour management is horrible.Staff was totally untrained and kept on dropping the vessels.Nobody bothered to clear a table unles a guest demands and the meaning of clearing means removing the used plates leaving the dropped food on the tables only. There was not enough crockery and guests were found having cornflakes in cups after waiting for a bowl for more than 20 mins. Most of the sweet dishes mentioned in the menu like apple pie are not available and only ice creams are available. When asked as to why they mentioned the items when they are not available the only answer we got was a weak smile.
Next day morning there was no hot water and and after sometime there was no water at all.all the guests came out and started shouting.Shift manager after answering a couple of guests vanished leaving the lower staff to face the wrath of guests.
OVer all a bad experience.

I have stayed at Grand Palace a few times before and given its great location, overlooking the valley, and on the top of a hill, the stay has been an essential part of my Yercaud experience.

I had always recommended the hotel to friends who visited Yercaud from Chennai and Bangalore insisting that they stay there.

However my last stay has changed my opinion and i will be looking at alternatives the next time I plan to go to yercaud (given its proximity to Bangalore i am sure i will be there again)

The experience was bad on count of the service and lack of courtesy in treating us.

Wife being a vegetarian we ordered a paneer butter masala and few other stuff for an in-room meal on the first night of our stay there. When we have had a few morsels did we realize that the dish is actually Chicken Butter Masala! (you would realize the big deal if you are a veggie in India)

We were seriously infuriated and called up the kitchen. A waiter walks in a few minutes later and simply replaces the worng dish with our correct order, without offering a word of apology. When i called up reception and gave them my piece of mind, the duty manager came up offered a sorry and a dessert if wished to. We declined that and let it go after this, realizing that there is no use crying over spilt milk.

In the morning, we went for breakfast at the restaurant, not wanting to take chances with another room serving accident. the restaurant had this great view of the valley and we wanted to sit onone of the tables facing the valley . The restaurant was mostly empty at that point but there was only one table towards the side we wanted and that was a six seater. We occupied it, and one of the waiter who had been ignoring us all this while comes us to us and says that we need to shift to a smaller table.

Now i explained to him
1. the place is practically empty
2. we would move if they have a rush later
but he wouldnt budge

We furiously stormed out of the restaurant and passed by the duty manager we saw in the night, who ignored us, but went to make inquiries with his guys. we were expecting an apology or some call, but none was to come.

I have had enough. I went to the General Manager and explained the entire thing to him who at least gave us a patient hearing, offering an apology and 'generously' took off a chocolate we had from the mini bar.

I don't think they did enough either ways and though i will miss the view, but i will possibly be looking at alternatives.

It was a off-season break that we decided to land at this new hill station called as the poor man's Ooty! We drove into this quite recommended hotel at not so cold hill town which unlike most hill station has a lake with all the town around it. The Hotel is located at the top of a hill and gives a wonderful view from the lake and it is quite a drive up to reach this place.
The check-in and the transfers were smooth and we took a deluxe room which had a wonderful valley view from it's balcony. The rooms were simple and nothing opulent about them except the price charged for them. The first signs of problems were seen when we ordered for something to eat. Almost nothing on the menu was available except some variations of rice. The room have the clean-up smelled quite foul and there were some problems with the bathroom too.
The Hotel location is also quite a walk from the town area and there is no mode of transportation available. Also, as with many of my fellow travellers it is a fact that over many years the property seems to be still under construction.

Me and my wife decided to stay in this hotel at our anniversary this year and I must say I regret the decision now.
Rooms : I had made a booking 20 days back and I had updated during my booking that I need a Junior Suite with Balcony. However at check in I got a room which was interconnected with another room and didnt have any balcony. The floor of the room was some pathetic old tiles and no carpet.Additionally the double bed didnt have a double matteress but 2 single mattress. On enqiury I was told that this is the only room available and rest everything is packed.

Service : Purely average.I ordered a tea and sandwich and it took them 45 minutes to deliver the same to the room.

Restaurant : So much has been written about their restaurant and its food. However every time I ate there, I had to cope up with pathetic food and bad service. The Buffet is cooked for both lunch and Dinner and I should say you would be unfortunate if you try it.Food is cold and tasteless.Plates are normally unavailable during lunch hours and so is cutlery. When you ask for the same they take around 5-10 minutes to get it.The buffet is priced at around 299 plus taxes which comes to rs.343 but however its not even worth 43 rupees.

View from the lawn : Possibly this is the only thing which is good in this hotel.Great view indeed where you can see how clouds move and how hills are engulfed and are thrown out of the clouds.

Pastry shop : There is none. Its a bluff. They just have a rack where they keep some pastries on display which I am sure are made and kept there way back in time.

Bar : Didnt try that so cannot comment on it.

Housekeeping : Pathetic again. We went out of our Room at 10 in the morning with make up my room sign at the door.We came back at 1:30 and room was not done.We told housekeeping guy that we are going for lunch and will be back at 2:30 and please make up the room by then. When we came back at 2:30 Room was still not done. Then when I started shouting in the lobby , Room was cleaned and made up in 10 minutes.

Spa : Tried a ayurvedic massage here.It was average. The table used is pathetic there and you can never get in a comfortable position on it.

Billing : Frauds to core.I had taken enchanting package which entitled me 1000 rupees food coupon. My overall Bill was less than 1000 for food, however they had charged me all the food which I had had in the room. After lot of argument he removed it finally(I should say I had to blow off my temperament again for this).

My suggestion to anyone going to Yercaud would be to try out GRT nature trails over this hotel. As hotels are few in Yercaud, one may tend to book this one as website is clean and easy to use.But make sure you dont do that as they take all money in advance and once you are there you wont have an option to switch as you would have paid the money by then already. In one line to summarize,Stay away from this Hotel.....

Folks, I usually do not write reviews but after what I went through it became imperitive to share with all. These guys promised us a balcony room and on arrival said - "Sorry Sir colleague gave it to someone the night before". Then the room service guys were pathetic, I gave them a bottle of milk and said please heat for 45 seconds, they boiled it and gave it back. They set up a buffet for lunch and dinner and do not allow you to order ala-carte; imagine, you can not even eat what you want on a holiday!

I am writing the wonderful experience we had at your property(GRAND PALACE) at yercaud:
1.Check- in : when we reached at around 12.10 pm we were made to wait for around 20 minutes before any one even greeted us I think their staff people feel that they are the only resort in the universe.Even if they do not attend or greet guests properly they will always be fully occupied, the front office person was very rude he started the formalities at around 12.30 and after that I think we were made to wait for another half an hour, when we started to proceed towards the room at around 1.00 o clock he called us from back and said " sir check - out time is 11.00 am " . when u cannot give us the room at 12.00 noon as per your policy I don't think the management should expect the guest to check-out at 11.00am; any way we checked-out at 10.30.
2.About the Room : Room furniture and floors needs urgent renovation.
3.Dining Experience : When we went for lunch we could not believe the ambience, it was like a road side II grade style with broken tables and chairs. food preparations were ok but it was served with same rude attitude. It dose not even have proper cutlery.
4.break fast : we came to know that if its a buffet than water is also self service, We want to thank grand palace captain for informing us about this.
5.The new years Galla Dinner : The food quality was horrible, there was same tandoor used for non veg and rotis if they were not having separate tandoor they could have arranged for tawa rotis Phulkas or roomali, even dosa counter had the same tawa for veg and chicken things, this kind of arrangements we see on road side c grade dhabas not in resorts like these who are charging so much, if this kind of services we wanted we could have got at 10% price of what we paid to you.
6.New year program : Wish myself and my family knew tamil to understand the com-parer's raw tamil.
7.Check-out : I had to carry my luggage to my car as there was no body to help, wish you had more people to handle this.

My husband and I stayed at the Suite here. We shelled out around 8400 for 2 nights. It can't be called a suite just by replacing vitrified tiles in a room with Granite????Horrible defn of a suite ....ofcourse it had a bigger balcony but other rooms had a balcony and hanging chair (much better)
Breakfast was served but the service at the table was poor

With construction on, it was a nuisance staying there.

The location of the hotel is good, and may be worth for around Rs1500/night

I would suggest people not visit Yercaud in the first place...Dirty and not beautiful

Came across some reviews from 2008 stating this place is still under construction. Could not resist writing the experience I had in this place more than 3 years back. I had stayed here in 2006 and it was still in the same under construction state and had a very horrible experience from everything except food. My vacation was ruined because of this so called 3 star hotel.
Issues faced were 1) I had a confirmed booking made but room was not available when I reached with my 3 yr son and wife. Made us wait without even an apology for 2 hrs. 2) Finally room was allotted which was supposed with Balcony and valley view, but didn't have any balcony. Manager explained that verandah (passage to other rooms) outside my room provides valley view and is taken as balcony and is charged at a premium. I didn't have a choice since all rooms were full and I didn't want to go room hunting with my little son. 3) All through day and night there were loud bangs of construction happening (guess it still continues) and 4) there was dust all over and I picked an allergic cold. 5) Worst of all your complaints will be dealt with a threat that you can pack your bags if you want.
In short my vacation was ruined because of this place
