We were staying at this hotel and every wish was fullfilled by the exemplary staff.
Every morning having a wonderful breakfast with beach-view. Close to the way to the beach there are so much flowers in wonderful colours and palms - I really enjoyed every step of my feets. The cook was my best friend and I loved his Tandoori - Chicken and "Banana Frittas" in the afternoon...

I stayed in Estrela do mar during 24th Feb to 27th Feb 2011. I happened to read all the bad reviews about this resort after I the booking was confirmed. So was really in two minds whether to go ahead or cancel. But I decided to go ahead and got really a positive surprise. The stay was excellent and really value for money. The rooms were superb, very neat, clean, recently renovated. Toilets were very clean and well maintained.

I think the negative reviews are nothing but an over exaggeration of the situation and tend to misguide others.

About the location…Mostly all the negative reviews are about the approach road to the resort. Well this resort is off the main road and is 5-8 minutes walk from the calangute baga road. The road is dark at night but definitely safe. The hindu cemetery situated on the way to the resort which most of the travelers have mentioned about definitely catches ones attention. But it is closed down and non operational according to the hotel staff. I would like to mention here that none of the travelers have mentioned about the hindu temple which is situated right opposite the hotel. The beach is at the back side of the hotel and is about 3 minutes walk through a narrow road which is properly carved out.

About the rooms…There are actually different categories of rooms. Rooms on the way to the beach start with 1 and 2, e.g.101,102..,201,202…etc are old and look shabby from outside. Rooms starting from 5 and 6 e.g.501,502..601, 602…are called as beach huts and situated right next to the beach are meant for the people who would like to do adventure since they look very scary at night. Rooms on the pool side start with 3 and 4, e.g. 301,302..401,402..etc. These rooms are very well maintained. We were told by the hotel staff that rooms like 401,402…. were renovated in 2009 and rooms like 301,302…were renovated in 2010. They are the best rooms of the hotel and one should ask for rooms starting with 3, e.g.301, 302… (I think all the negative reviews are from people who would have stayed in rooms 101,102…or 201, 202….).

About the staff….Staff out here is slightly low profile and simple. Bur they always ready to help, especially when it comes to airport transfers, sightseeing etc. They allowed us to change our room when we requested.

About the meals….We mostly had food outside but once during our stay ordered on room dining. The taste was superb. The breakfast is just amazing especially the omelets and one should not miss that.

In all an excellent experience and definitely visit again..

Brilliant location. Our rooms were beach facing....close enough to the beach for witnessing a resplendent sunset....and far enough from it to ensure privacy. Thatched huts on stilts on the outside but beautifully lit and 'clean' inside. Room service and food available on request.

I traveled on 21st August to 24th August. I booked 3 night - 4 days package for this hotel from third party travel agent "Travel Unlimited".
First of all if I say about Hotel and location, i can term it as EXCELLENT. The beach is only 3-4 mins walk from hotel and beach is very quiet and clean. Rooms are neat and clean , service was excellent. Room service guy will be available 24/7 on call so it will be really helpful if you go for any site seeing tour and coming back to hotel around late night.
About food, I can say breakfast & dinner was excellent. The cook is ready to prepare dinner with your taste & wish.
About transport, Main road is only 10 mins walk from hotel though you will get many taxis and bike rental guys in front of hotel till midnight.
About swimming pool, the pool is very small but enough to get relax and swim. It will be ideal if your partners are not comfortable with deep water swimming. My thought, its ideal for any age group.

"One major point I would like to mention that please take rooms on first floor when you are going to stay during monsoon days... rooms like 501 to 517. Please don't go with room which are on ground floor and on the way to beach like 101 to 110."

-Advise to travelers based on my stay : Do not go for site seeing tour which will be 8.30 AM to 7.00 PM for North Goa, south Goa etc. Best is hire one bike or activa and have printout of Goa map.
- Do not forget to visit colava beach. Take a walk in night on calangut beach (where this hotel is situated). Purchase cashew from Zanty (Govt approved).
- for casino lovers go to Casino Rolaye which is in Rivera inn on road of Anjuna beach. Entry fee 500 (with unlimited food & drinks - hard/soft).
- have a beautiful sunset view from boat cruise on river mandovi (150 Entry fee only).
- Do not forget to taste Fenny (Traditional cashew liqueur).
- Do not visit any Heritage building sites like "old Goa village" (Entry : 100 )& "Big foot .." (Entry : 50) even aquarium (Entry : 50). Not worth at all.

My overall experience with the hotel , staff and service was excellent. I would recommend to go through third party agents like "Travel Unlimited" & get some special discounts with one complimentary site seeing tour.

We have been to there along with my friend . This is really a magnificent resort and we've experienced such an awesome food and service there. It was not easy to left the resort and go around in Goa as it has the big and nice swimming pool inside the resort.
it was first impresion was on reception ! the reception lady jackline was very friendly & helpful always simle & welcome the guest

The specialty of this resort is the Goan cuisine and the room service by efficient staff. The fish-rice is really very delicious and temptating. You will always get food at your order only, means it will be always fresh and warm. The menu is filled-up with north India, south India and Goan dishes and lots of mocktails and drinks. I and my friend, both have beer, vodka and the goan fenny there. The taste of Cashew Fenny is rocking.

The resort is very close to the most of the popular beaches around like Calangute Beach, Baagha Beach, Anjuna Beach etc. You can also hire a Scooty or Car at a very reasonable fare and infact the resort people arrange the same for you. The cleanliness of the room is really appreciable.

Since Goa is itself a good place to visit.. But if you are looking for a budget hotel with all the amenities of five stars, then I must say that this is the best option....

Best place tto stay in North Goa. It was conviniently located. The Beach side buffet breakfast was good enough. But, it was worth what you pay for.
Start your day with jogging on the beach... have the breakfast by the beach... nd just relax on the set-up of the hotel by the sea. If you wish to explore the city just hire a bike and find a map, and go to explore the city.
This is the best place you can stay when you are to spend most of your time outside the hotel. You can just walk from your room to the baga beach which is 5 min. and explore the shacks there, at night even the best night clubs are nearby! Its a safe place and worth the money you spend!!!

We stayed at this RESORT for about 5 days. It was a good experience. The RESORT was simple yet availabe with all the basic amenities.

We were given a room with poolside facing. It had basic double bed, AC, Small Fridge, Small TV, a bathroom with Geyser, shower etc. The hotel also has a sort of open bar and quite silent ambience. The restaurant is quite simple with basic chairs and dining table. The food is fine, not that great.

The staff is polite and responsive.specaily the reception ladys They are generally helpful and guide us about surrondings and sightseeing areas if asked to them.

The location is a bit put-off because it is deep inside from the main road and specially way is very dark at nights. But, walking to and from the hotel in daylight is nice because of greenery.
The hotel looks much better in photos as compared to what you see there and also its located way off from the beach and is a lonnnng walk. The best thing about the hotel is its cool and serene atmosphere.

Estrela do Mar Beach Resort has one of the best locations in Goa. Calangute being a famous beach, this resort gives oneself just the right elements to enjoy with your family. One of the key success factors of this resort are is its lavish service. The way their staff pampers all its guests is just so perfect. There is always a smiling welcome at the entrance. As one checks in the resort, they have a very grand welcome with an Aarti and tikka, just the way one would imagine if one was a king. The Managing Director is very cordial and makes it a point to meet all the guests personally no matter how busy he is.
The hotel has very good tie-ups with transport agencies and their sight-seeing is not to be missed. The rooms are very spacious and specially their sea-view rooms have a jaw-dropping view. One can thoroughly enjoy the sunset from their poolside. The restaurants serve tantalizing cuisines with all dishes being custom made.

A trip to this hotel is so mesmerizing that one can easily connect with nature and its elements. I can never forget this trip of mine, which was only due to the special treatment I got at this luxurious resort.

Hi

Working in Mumbai does take its toll on an individual, so was looking for a resort that would let me enjoy a peace and quiet holiday and have enough activities to have some quality time with my family too.

EDM perfectly met my requirements of peace and quiet and at the same time being located right on the beach and 5 mins from Baga beach of Goa, was just far enough to be within walking distance of the most happening beach of Goa.

The personalized service was a class apart with the staff very polite and helpful, and even accommodated us in the odd hours of theday.

If you are looking for a carefree, personalised and relaxing holiday, then I would any day recommend EDM resort.

Great atmosphere around the resort. All the staff of estrela was very kind as they gave me a great service. To be honest i am dissapointed with the bad reviews of estrela as i found them in the opposite way.

The service was very good. The staff was very kind. when i was going out of the resort i was just telling reception to tell someone to clean my room and when i was opening my room it was all cleaned so it was very nice of them. and i also found the very good thing of the resort is its having its own beach shack n that is also connected tom the beach with their private garden area.
the resort it on the calangute beach towards baaga n its just 1 minute away from the beach .

I had pleasant stay in estrela.

One can relax and catch up on reading or just laze around the beach. We also visited the Tibetean market and indulged in the water sports at a facility nearby.

The one thing we really enjoyed was the breakfast at the Shack on the beach... our room was within 5 minutes walking distance from the beach and I doubt if we could have got any other hotel in our budget which was so well located.

Our room was basic but comfortable and the stay was made even more memorable by one of the staff members offering to lend us a personal Nokia charger because I had forgotten to carry myown...this was much more than we expected and we will definitely recommend the hotel for its service.

As this was our first visit to india, We tought this hotel was great,
ok the first room was damp but what do you expect when they have monsoons, but we were given a choice of othere rooms and took one right next to swiming pool, with two children this was realy handy, out the room straight into swimming pool. we did not spend all our time in the hotel. only as a base realy. As we like to go out and see diffrent things. we did not have breakfast there as we like to try local places like the salt & pepper. But found the staff lovely and friendly and the room was spottless every day and nothing went astray.

the pool was cleaned and topped up every morning The kids realy enjoyed there stay which is unusal for my kids, we are planning to go back next year for three weeks this time. so staff be warned stuart & cameron are coming back.

We did eat in the hotel we used room service the spring rolls & fruit filled pancakes were lovely, and they managed to get the coffee just the way i liked it strong. cant wait to go back. we thought calangute was lovely and only a 15 minute walk to baga beach. We had the same taxi driver for two weeks we were there and went all different places it worked out a lot cheaper than going on thomson excursions to the same places.

We have just come back from Goa on our first trip there and are really impressed. Already planning next years trip!
We had some reservations about the Estrela Do mar as it was shown as only 2* but all concerns were banished the moment we arrived. Great location as it was in between Baga and Calangute (Calangute was a bit too manic for us, nice to visit wouldn't of wanted to be in the centre though), 5 mins walk from the beach so you get best of both worlds in terms of access to day/night time shacks plus only 5 mins walk from the bars, shops and restaurants in the town.
The hotel was extremely clean and all staff were very helpful.
Would recommend and would stay there again.

I had read some scary reviews of the place, but luckily i had quite a good stay.
The service and staff were cheerful and friendly, being pretty prompt on most things asked for. The rooms were neat and clean. Like all resorts on the beach, they had a good shack on the beach. Sun-beds thru the day and chairs later int he evening next to the sea.
The room view i had faced the reception and garden, so there wasn't much to see there.

They had a good swimming pool in the hotel itself. Our package also had an airport pickup and drop which was carried out smoothly.

They beach is an 8 minute walk from the resort. It is completely thru the hotel property.
The location is just on the border between Baga and Calangute. This stretch of the beach is relatively empty as compared to other parts of Baga and Calangute..

Estrela Do Mar in Calangute/Baga was my base during a short vacation to Goa between 10/3/11 to 13/3/11 with my wife.
Fisrt thing that strikes you as are approaching this place is that its quite aloof/away from the main market of Calangute and not very easy to find. Though a local auto rickshaw guy will guide you without hassles. The entrance and the look from outside is quite un-assuming and might even look like a no-good place. But all this assumption ends once you enter and you start feeling that you got quite a good deal for what you paid.

The reception staff was quite helpful but as courteous compared to some 5 star hotels. I was checked in without any hassle what so ever and my luggage was carried to this "beach hut" which i had booked a short walk away from the main resort building towards the beach (its in between the Calangute and Baga beaches). The "beach huts" are a different experience in themselves. They are almost on the beach, some more, some less. Mine was towards the "less on the beach side" though i could see the sea and the beach from the porch outside my hut. These huts are built on bamboo pillars and made fully of cane sort of wood. Quite small but comfortable with good lighting, A/C (will chill you to the bone in 10 mins flat !), TV with all the regular satellite channels and a comfortable bed with white linen. There was also a cupboard but without a lock(!). So there is no option to leave any valuables locked in the room when you are out on the beach soaking the sun. These huts shake when you are moving around inside, but i realised they are quite strongly built on their feeble bamboo pillars and wont come down so easily...!

For food there are 2 options- an in-house open sky restaurant inside the main resort area and one beach side shack a little further away from the huts towards the beach. The morning breakfast (complimentary inclusion) is served at both places and there is also the option of ordering in the room from these. Surprisingly the beach side shack orders have to be paid then and there and there is no option get the bill included in the final hotel bill. The breakfast was not a very big spread but good enough to fill yourselves for the day till you find a better place for lunch- omlette, cereals, idli-sambar, juices, toast- the regular fare. As I was going around beach hopping on my hired 2 wheeler during the day, I never got the chance to try their lunch/Dinner.

Taxi/ 2 wheelers are available on rent just outside the resort gates for a reasonable/standard price.

All in all a good experience on a budget for family and friends and right on the beach (well, almost). Might come back here again.

I had read many negative news about this hotel before i stay there. However, that is not really true which i feel. I believe many satisfied customers didn't write in their comments.
Few things I need to highlight for my concern:
1. It should be missed communication from the web page, the sea view rooms are hut, not room. Which I stayed in this type room. Is very comfortable, even you don't need to on the air-cond at night. Housekeeping given us surprise everyday when we step in the hut, nice decoration and romantic. And this room is very close to the beach!
2. The food is very delicious! I am happy with the F&B team and chef, they are really experienced to serve guest.
3. You will need to walk around 15mins to the main road, while outside that is a union of taxi are waiting for you, but if you reject them, they won't disturb you. The union of taxi is everywhere in Goa, not only in this hotel. Is comfortable to walk to the main road. There is many convenience shops, restaurants and souvenir shops on the main road and the price are cheap. You will enjoy to walk on the street.
4. However, I do have one negative comment for this hotel. I feel the Front office's staff are lack of experience to handle customer, the way their talk and act are not professional. The management should send them for training - "How to improve communication skill."
They feel shock when they see me (Asian's look).
5. I checked out early in the morning (4am). While the F&B forgot to prepare breakfast. The check out process are slow (we were rushing to airport). Again, the communication skill of Front office staff have to improve.

Hope it helps. Overall I feel satisfied to stay in this hotel. : )

Weilek

We stayed here in the peak most season Sunburn - Deceber 2010
During this period, all the hotels were full and rates were sky high.I was hesitant to stay here after reading some negative reviews. But I had very few options left.
Mr. Aniket gave us a good deal and believe me the quality of stay I had was far above our expectations.
Food is excellent here, seafood was great.
Rooms are clean and well maintained, though glass doors are a No-No, privacy is assured.
This hotel is located right on the beach, water sports at walkable distance.
Access to city and local transport is good.
You can hire a bike easily right from in front of the gate.
Staff is very co-operative.
The swimming pool is hygienic and well maintained.
Cheers!!!!

I was looking for a hotel close to the beach. Being the tourist season, I found it tough to find a reservation in one of the top rated hotels (over one month in advance!). However, managed to get rooms vacant in Estrela Do Mar Beach resort.

As others suggested, the approach to hotel might look secluded, but once you are in, there's a nice feeling. While it is not a full-fledged resort, it may qualify for a mini resort. The ambiance is good. Initially I was given a room somewhere in the corner. It was damp and depressing. However, on complaining, I was immediately shifted to a pool facing room. I can understand why some people have rated this hotel badly. If I were to stay in that room, I would have done so as well. The changed room was decent. Note that the hotel has been around for some time, so rooms are not-so-new. However, our room was clean and decent.

The beach is just as close as it can get in the region. There are no on-the-beach hotels on the Calangute beach as such. Estrela Do Mar has a private path leading up to the beach (about 150-200 meters). The resort has its own beach side shades which you can enjoy free of charges.

The food is great. The staff is very polite and cooperative. While having breakfast, you will get all those suggestions and information about places-to-see from the staff.

Although we just used the hotel to sleep at night as we were out most of the time, we enjoyed our stay!

I stayed at this resort from 13-17 oct 10. to start with it is at the best location i.e. between calangute and Baga beaches. the hotels rooms are good, spacious. A special mention about bathrooms- the fittings are excellent. The housekeeping is fabolous. The breakfast is on the house and quality and quantity both were extremely good. the staff is very polite. they were courteous to change the room as initial allotted room was near to the on going renovaton. the resort is under renovation and is likely to be completed by mid november 10. The taxis, bikes and scotters are available on the main gate and prices are very reasonable. I booked the hotel through travel guru and got a good deal. Overall a very very pleasent stay.

Nice pool. If I remembered one waiter asked cash whle I order food while I asked him to ad it to my room bill, he was not agree. I have complained in the reception and got the anwser that he may did it for tips.
Come on you are taking the hotel charge , why u need tips always.
Hotel is very near to the sea and beach but donot go out in night to the sea as its near the Graveyard.

Hope this helps.

Location of the hotel is tremendous, clean rooms and very supportive staff.
But at the time of site seeing they did not provided the car from hotel to bus as they committed earlier and even it was raining.
I more thing, I had to change my room after 2 nights due to leakage at the time of rain, but it was natural.

The best part about the hotel just on beach. I stayed in hotel for 2 Nights with my wife. The rooms are average but then if you are looking for a beach property which is economical then this is a good choice. I stayed there for the beachs. Calangute beach is very near & tried all the water sports with my wife. Hotel gives Breakfast on beach & on request can arrange your dinner at beach. The best part was my dinner at beachside. The hotel Location is a problem as it is away from market & at night time it is bit scary to travel with your wife. Rest for fun on beach its a nice econimical choice.

I booked this hotel after going through reviews on multiple sites. Got a nice 30% discount through ICICI & Yatra. Hotel is situated in the crux of things, right on Calangute beach. Better signs can be used on the main road for directions as a shallow road has to be taken to reach the resort. I took the ground floor room in front of the swimming pool. The swimming pool was small but was cleaned regularly. The room was small but was very cozy, with ok sized bathroom. The service was prompt and menu was designed keeping foreigners in mind. Food was little costly but was excellent, with good variety.Although same cannot be said about the complementary breakfast, it was limited in variety and lacked substance. Staff is very friendly and help you out nicely. Overall a nice place to stay in Goa. Highly Recommended.

We travel to Goa normally three to four time in a year and this time we had the pleasure of staying at the Estrela Do Mar Beach resort. The resort is situated right on Baga beach and is a short walk from all the happening areas in town. The resort boasts of its own private beach and a lovel Breakfast is served there every morning. The swimming pool is clean and the rooms are very functional. We took a family room which can comfortably accoomodate 4 people and also has two bathrooms. The staff are very friendly and are led by a very efficient manager Mr Shirshendu Kumar De who does everything to make your stay comfortable. In all the resort offers excellent value for money and the location is just perfect.

We stayed at the Estrela Do Mar for 5 days in Feb 2008 as we had gone there to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. The best part about this hotel is that it is right on calangut beach. The best way to start your day is to have the breakfast which is laid out by them on the beach shack. The breakfast is not that great but it is amazing to sit right there next to the ocean and watch the waves. The rooms are neat and clean and the hotel staff is very pleasant. The hotel also has their own agents who can rent out bikes/ scooters to you at a very cheap price. On our wedding anniversary the hotel arranged a cake and a bottle of wine for us. This resort is total value for money..it is also very very centrally located with a very cute swimming pool. The only downside is that I think the food is not that great. However, overall Our experience was very very nice and I would totally reccomend this resort to my close friends and family who are looking for a relaxed getaway and a nice clean place which is not too expensive.

I stayed here at the end of the tourist season and for the most part am happy with my stay at this beach resort. My friends and I just wanted a few days of hanging out on the beach and this was an excellent place to do it because it was a fairly short walk to the beach. The service and food (try the sesame tempura prawns) were great at the main resort. Service on the beach was very slow and we usually had to find someone to take our orders. The management/owners should streamline the billing process. It was one bill for items consumed from the room and another bill for ordering food and drinks at the beach (which we were asked to pay for each evening instead of paying at the end of our stay in one lump sum) and yes, if you pay with a credit card there is a 2% fee. The towels on the beach recliners were filthy and I was told I could not take a clean towel from the room down to the beach. The rooms are a bit on the small side, but comfortable and clean. Everything worked, ie. hot water, A/C, and a variety of TV channels were available. It is about an hour from the airport and I paid 650Rs for a prepaid taxi at the airport to take me to the resort which the driver had a hard time finding, so make sure you have the resort's phone number to get directions! I booked online from a hotel website service and received a discount. I've stayed in many places in India and Sri Lanka, and rated this place very good due in part to the wonderful staff, location, clean rooms, beach and resort grounds. All this for $36 US a night!

Stayed there in april ,09 for 3 days.. in a standard room. Room size was quite small, but no problem with cleanliness.
But room was serviced only when being asked for. Big positive is it's location near to beach, 1 min walk through its lawns. has its beach shack there. the food there was really good, one of the few shacks with that good a menu. Staffs were friendly. we needed to extend our stay for 3-4 hrs both during checkin and chekout, was done. But talk to manager directly, the receptionist didn't look too keen to help. No facility for music or dance. In the night the corridoors were totally dark!! . bit far from main road, have to walk a good 10 mins to be somewhere near city.overall it's OK hotel, but rooms would not make yuou happy on the first sight.

The room service could have been faster, but the food was good. Linen was neat n rooms were spacious !

I quickly realise that the staffs were all amazingly friendly, in a genuine way! They all helped us out, even at 3am when i felt a bit hungry. We had a good laugh with the staffs there. Everyday, we came back to our room with a surprise: we would get elephant, swan, boat, etc shaped towel. We loved it! Summary: basic clean room, but amazing staffs! I would stay there again for the friendly staffs!

Booked a family room which was having a double bed and a futon to accomodate 4 persons. Room was pretty clean and decent in size and ambience. It was having 2 washrooms(best part) and a balcony too. Hot water was available in washroom 24 hours.
Beach was just 2 min walk. Calangute main beach was around 1 KM by road and Baga was little more.
I find staff was courteous and helping. We didn't tried much food at hotel, breakfast was OK.
Taxi's and rental bikes were available in front of hotel gate only.

With its proximity to the beach and the local tourist markets at Baga and Calangute, this is a good place to stay for tourists looking for action and beaches and not planning to spend too much time at the hotel.

The food and service was fine.

The pool looked refreshing but isn't deep so is suitable for kids and amateur swimmers.

The off season prices were good.

Though the name sounds exotic, the place itself is average and could look better with a little more maintenance and we wish there weren't so many blue tarpaulin covers on the roofs. they really affected the aesthetics.

My friends had booked a hotel which we didn't really like when we reached there. Next day we went out looking for a place that could offer us a clean AC room and toilet. After checking 2-3 places we found this one. They showed us room 301 which must have been recently redone and we then booked the room online (since it was much cheaper). But they gave us some crappy room which we refused to take. We then looked at 3-4 other rooms and picked one room 419 which was clean and spacious even after having the extra bed. Since the monsoons had just got over, most hotels were damp and mossy from inside and smelly. This one was unlike the others and thats the primary reason why we chose it. Bathroom was basic and the shower was a joke. It'd take 2 hrs to finish a bath if you tried using the shower.

We enjoyed the lunch we had here. Food was very good. The buffet breakfast is quite sad with everything served cold. Except the eggs that were made as per your request.

At 3000 bucks a night, this was definitely not worth the price but we didn't want to waste more time searching another place. I have stayed at Casa De Goa a few years back and next time I will check that before anything else.

Stayed here for 1 night before moving on to Terra Paraiso. Quite near to Tito's and baga beach.

The rooms were not good, and smelled of moisture. Felt it was a bit overpriced also. The crowd was predominantly foreigners, and had a good time at the open bar.
The good thing is they have reserved shack and sun beds for the patrons, which was a relief.

had a really unforgettable time on Saturday night, when almost everybody went to Tito's and we had a great romantic candle light dinner at their beach shack. Felt like we had exclusively booked the whole beach for ourselves.

Except for that, nothing good about it.

Access:
As the Hotel Name suggests it’s a beach Property...and it does not disappoint there, the hotel has a private access to the private beach, also the hotels own beach shack is located at the beach where you can sit and take in the sun and the sand. Surprisingly this part of the beach is not crowded at all and is the best for Honeymooners; also there are no hawkers on this part of the beach, so you won’t be bothered here at all. The beach is clean and well maintained. Also the private access road is beautiful covered with flowers and beach huts. We had inclusive breakfast in our package which we did not eat a single day...since quality was substandard...plates are not clean also breakfast is served beach side which you may think is romantic ...but not when you see flies and soiled table cloths and torn chair cushions! Don’t get me started on the complementary juice...Freshly squeezed out of a can mixed with a equal quantity of water and then served! Disgusting

Parking:
The Hotel has an Open parking but has space to park about six to ten cars, We had hired a car which i left there for the night with an assurance from the hotel that it is absolutely safe.

Location:
The Hotel Location is the best part...Its conveniently located, equidistant almost from the two premiere beaches of goa...I.e. Calangute and Baga. The Hotel is also conveniently located near the most happening place in north goa such as Titos and Mambos for all who love to go clubbing...also loads of shopping options nearby as well along Calangute-Baga road. The approach road is a bit of a problem...the Hotel is actually located a bit inside from the main Calangute-Baga road probably a 6-7min walk inside. Also be ware there is a Hindu cemetery along the approach road to the hotel...may probably creep you out when you’re walking back at night. There is a taxi stand located outside the hotel which is convenient but expensive.

The Front desk & Room Service:
The staff was not helpful took forever to be given rooms. The package included welcome drinks which were less than impressive, actually a lot like coloured water. We booked an Standard AC room with included breakfast the room wasn’t ready at all had to wait for 15-20 mins to get a room also had emailed the hotel staff about my room preferences well in advance but still they did not arrange the specified room which was very disappointing, The room package also included a wine bottle which were not placed in the room had to call room service 4 times to get it! The bell boys are weak cannot carry bags which my wife can pick up! And have to be told at least twice before they can comprehend any instructions

The Room:
We could get a room facing the road since in spite of the booking requesting a pool facing room no care was taken to assure the same... The room was small but neat and comfortable with two bathrooms. The linen was clean, air conditioner was running and taps and flush were working. The bathroom was compact and reasonably clean. There was a colour TV in the room as well with a remote which again i had to call reception and get it! Also had to get its batteries replaced! That was just plain ridiculous. There was a writing table in the room with a spacious closet as well.
Food & Room Service:
We did not order anything after the breakfast episode. Food was sub-standard. Service was abysmal.

Overall:
On the whole, the hotel is a good option for the budget traveller and for short stays where you just want to sleep and travel the remaining part of the day. There are several nice options to dine nearby and on the beach. I would recommend the Infantaria for breakfasts, there is a SUBWAY sandwich shop just outside the hotel lane if it tickles your fancy, other restaurants such as O’pescador and Manchester United Cafe are close by and good places to Eat n’Drink. In terms of ratings i will give it a 2.75 on 5.

This was my first trip to goa and i chooses this hotel for beach location .
Let me begin with Good and bad points
1) Rooms as Ok Ok . You should not expect this as Three star property with bad washroom. its like a 2 star property.I got a very good deal from yatra so i opted this hotel . if you are spending more you can look for some other hotels as well
2)Location : Good point : hotel is on the beach.with some chairs and umbrella available on beach from hotel itself and you can enjoy the sun ..if you want bike on rent you can easly get outside from this hotel.

Bad point : the way from main road to hotel is very scary in night..This hotel is beside shamshan bhhomie ..there will be 10-15 people (bike on retal ) outside the gate of this hotel , if you are travelling with your family you may not find that good as alwasys they stares at you.. we use to go out not through this gate but via beach gate..

Also note that in night if you want to enjoy the beach this may not be good place as this seems to be first hotel in the beach side(from calungate).you will not find any hotels or resturents on the left of this hotel..if you move towards baga beach you will find may good restaurants there. with good music which you can really enjoy..your dinner..we never had dinner in this hotel but preferred others resturents towards baga beach with some music..
3) Food :Food is ok ok . good thing is BF is served on the beach side so you can enjoy ..Bad thing is place is not hygenic..Tables towels are very dirty and they are not changing them.. Food variety is not much ...not as 3 start hotels ...but ok ok..

We picked this hotel for its location and it is truly in the most happening part of Goa. A small walk from some of the hip joints, eateries and shopping areas. The resort has maintained the small patch of beach right outside their property exclusively for the guests and thus one is not compelled to buy food and drinks to just laze on the beach beds. Though the location is good and rooms decently clean, the staff is one of the most arrogant and non courteous I have encountered. If you are used to being taken care of by well groomed and trained hospitality staff, you would be in for a rude shock. All through our 4 day stay, we were helped/ welcomed/ wished only on 2 occasions. The housekeeping in-charge was abusing/ slapping and shouting at the cleaning staff in front of the guests with a huge sense of pride. When we checked out, 6 staff members just stood standing looking at how a lady was carrying 3 bags from the room, down 2 flights of stairs to the car. If you are going to Goa for partying/ eating and shopping and are going to spend most of your time outside the resort its a good place. Their swimming pool too is well maintained in case you opt to waddle in there, rather than the sea. We were also lucky to get a cheap deal from a travel website and thus ended up paying very little for this place. All in all, decent place.

My husband and I visited Goa between 20th march - 26th march to celebrate our first marriage anniversay. What prompted us to select this particular hotel was the good reviews we read about it on TripAdvisor.com. First off the positives about this hotel. One of them has to be location. Its very clsoe to the beach and the very happening main market. Secondly, the extremely helpful staff, esp. at the reception. We are not very satisfied with the room which was allocated to us, the staff at the hotel very nicely helped us move into a better room , facing the poolside. the rooms, the bed linen, the bathroom etc. were satisfactory and clean
One of the negative points will have to the room rate. we paid almost Rs.3000 per night, which seemed a little too steep for such an average room. The room service is also very poor and not at all prompt. There was not much variety in terms of the breakfast served.
The overall experience was just average. One can most definately find a better hotel for the room rates they charge

If you really want to enjoy Goa, then this may not be the ideal place to stay. It is a very basic place with very basic facilities. However, the customer service is quite good. And you just have to walk for about 5 minutes from the resort to get to Calangute beach. However, it is not advisable to go to the beach at night since it seems very deserted at that point of time.

I stayed at the Estrella Do Mar with friends on the run up to New Years. It was a budget holiday and we paid 4 grand (INR) for the hotel which was fairly decent value. The rooms were very innovative cottages next to the beach which were quite cheap for the price.

THIS IS NOT A LUXURY RESORT! It is a fairly comfortable beach resort and the rooms were basic (NO HOT WATER!) and so was the service. The beach in front of the hotel was fairly decent with a good spread of shacks all along. The pool was clean but the pool area is not private facing most of the rooms. The first night we were woken up by some folk music BLARING at the breakfast. The food and beverage is barely decent but affordable. Staff is slow ! One night we were disturbed by the staffing making lots of noise around the cabin for about half an hour!

To sum it up it is a decent budget accommodation.

We selected this hotel for its proximity to the beach. However, the beach is not right next to the hotel and it is around 2-5 minutes walk depending upon the way taken. The way that goes from the back of the hotel would need you to jump off a small stream and we would not risk it at night without a torch light. However, we did not mind that as the area around is pretty quiet and guarantees a good night's sleep. This might be because there is a hindu crematorium (appeared to be no longer in use) right next to it towards the beach.

The room service was quite prompt and the quality of food was nice. The staff was well behaved. There are plenty of taxis at the hotel gate. Moreover, the main road is around 10 minutes walk from the hotel.

A North Goa tour with a Non-AC coach was included in our package which was pathetic; Coach Condition was literally bad; I guess Roadways busses would have been better than that coach. Taking packages with coach basis tour is not at all advisable.
However we have enjoyed because the Hotel is right at the beach.

I saw some very good pics on their website, instantly liking this hotel & we booked it after reading some reviews in other sites. The only other reason to book this hotel was its location near to beach. After some negotiation by mails, we settled on the final amount for two Executive room. When we arrived at the hotel, the receptionist said that they have upgraded our rooms to Family rooms. I wondered why they did that & asked if the rooms are as good as Executive for which they said "these are better"
Once we entered the room, we saw they are clear, big & simple furniture. The lights in the bathroom were not working, it was totally dark inside. We asked for them to be fixed immediately. But they took around 20 min to come & then another 20 min to fix!!!

Ok, we got rid of this problem finally. Then we saw another problem with the bed lamps in our room which we didn't ask them to fix looking into the slow response to our first complaint. Anyways the rooms were big & it was ok. The location was on the ground floor near swimming pool. The pool is small & good Ok only for kids. So we didn't enter into the pool.

There is a big difference b/w what u see in pics of the website & what we saw.

The only appreciable thing about this hotel is the breakfast menu. The menu had good & reasonably tasty food.

All in all, Its not worth for the money we pay. Definitely it is not a 3* hotel as it is claimed.

The hotel's location is good, except the Hindu cremation ground which is besides the hotel. One can not miss it while going to the beach or to the city. The hotel is bang on the beach and very near the main attractions of North Goa. The hotel is staff was helpful. Food was above average. The breakfast and dinner were served right on the beach. The room was a bit disappointing - not meeting 3 star standards.

hello friends i have booked this resort through a stupid web site called travelguru.com.
when i reached the hotel i have found that my boking was done postponed without any notice to me,after a big arguement it was said that ur booking was amended by travelguru.i was mentally harrased by this travel guru and hotel front desk for 2 hours.
finally front desk people decided to provide me a room, but surprisingly i found that they have given me a standard category room where as my booking was done for executive delux room. When i have requested for the executive delux room they said me to adjust in this room for the time being, where as i have already paid them for executive delux....
any ways frends you can really spend your good time near by beach where in u have hotels private beach property,u can enjoy all water sports there..
u can even enjoy titos and mambos at walkable distance...
Dont take bikes on rent from the hotel instead take from outside where in u can find number of taxi fellows having there own bikes at very low cost.
one last suggestion'pack ur luggage prior to the chek out time since this people cant wait for a single moment.
they will bang u since 11 in the morning for check out, where as actually time written on the board is 1.00pm

well i went there with my family dec 2008,we booked through travel agent in delhi.over-all experience of the hotel was average, and i definately suggest adding more vegetarian food options.
the best point of the hotel is its closeness to the beach, which is very nice, but the worst part was itself the walk to the beach, from the hotel as it was adjacent to a "shamshan ghat" hindu cremation ground,
just seeing that i felt being cheated by my agent samara travels in delhi, as they promised its a best 3 star hotel at calangute beach

i would probably visit goa again, but never stay at this hotel, as when we reached there as compared to the same price we were paying here, we found much better hotels in clangute n baga area.

Location: Good
Food: Very Good (À la carte)
Service: Below Average
Rooms: Below Average (No regular maintence) - spent 3-4 hours in room repair
Cost: OK (You could bargain and get a great deal)
Staff: Strictly OK
Cleanliness: Strictly OK
Hotel is situated at a very gud location very close to the beach and main calangute market plus all the happening places like TITO's. BRITTO's is like a 5 min drive. If you dont mind decent stay and a willing to spend most of the time outside the room, this a good place. Thats why you will see a lot of foreigners around. And yes, their swimming pool wasn't clean at all.

Stayed here in March 2010 then October 2010 was an ok stay, got a good room upstairs, food was ok and location was good, service was basic but friendly.

However came back again for a week stay in April 2011, booked 2 Executive rooms (one for my mother in law and the other for me and my wife).
The airport pickup was a nightmare, the driver wanted to save money and parked on the other side of the highway, we had to dodge the traffic and heat to get to the car.
The driver wouldn't turn on the A/C despite booking for an A/C pickup. After he called the hotel and much debate he turned on the A/C finally. Not a good start.

Once we reached the hotel, we were told there were no Executive rooms left which is what we booked and paid for.
It seems they don't allocate rooms in advance and just put you wherever once you arrive.
Instead they "Upgraded" us to a Family room, the room was near the reception and walking path on ground level, it was dark/cold and very ordinary, the executive room we had the year before was much better.
The 2nd room for my mother in law was very old and dark, and smelt heavily of cigarettes.

Service in general was poor (worse than it used to be) everything we asked of them, seemed to be too hard for them.
For eg. One of the pillowcases on our bed smelt dusty and dirty so we asked for a new one, took 2 calls and 4 hours to get it.

Reception were unhelpful and didn't even seem to know much about the area. (there were a few good staff there but more bad ones than good).

On the 2nd last day of our week stay the whole resort was mostly empty, so I requested to be moved to the same room we had stayed in the past, the manager said yes it was available and as 'exception' would move us. 5 mins later the Manager said the room is actually allocated to someone arriving on the same day.
Which is at a contradiction to what happened to us on checkin, saying that they don't pre-allocate.

One morning the hot water was broken for hours, so we wasted half our day in the room waiting for water so we could shower.

So my next trip to Goa I'll be sure to find a new resort to stay at!

Nice location.......just a 3-5 min walk to the beach.

Do not get fooled by the pictures posted on the website.

Average hotel, highly priced according to the facilities provided.
Temporary restaurant- moulded plastic furniture
Dirty rooms- sand everywhere
rooms facing pool get a typical stench from the backside
rooms on the entrance have a stale smell.
old mattresses, bad pillows, poor linen- nothing of hotel type
the bar is semi covered- no covered place to sit......open place with plastic furniture

Choose this hotel only if you want to hangout on the beaches.- better sleep also at the beach.

Even before check-in this hotel was already a disappointment. Upon arriving at the airport, we were promised a driver from the hotel. After an hour looking for him, we found him in the parking lot talking to his buddies. We got to the hotel and check-in took about an hour to get through. The place was chaotic; guests were impatient and the staff was oblivious. We finally got to our room and realized it had not been clean. There was sand all over the tiles and the toilet leaked, leaving an inch of water throughout the bathroom....the whole stay. The place was dirty, the area around the pool was dirty, and it was so loud. The breakfast included was not good either. Anytime you needed to go to the front desk to ask a question you were told to wait and forgotten about. When we left we were supposed to have a driver take us back to the airport and even though we asked twice, we still had to wait for him to arrive...then when he arrived we were not notified and still had to wait.
The only positive about this hotel was the location. It is right on the beach in a very touristy location. Beware of the beach huts because loud music plays late through the night.
Thumbs up for room service.

Short version: Don't go there
Long version: Estrela has two kinds of rooms, poolside rooms that are acceptable since they were newly renovated and other rooms that are old and shabby. They try to fill up the shabby rooms first. We got one of each but managed to switch the shabby to poolside.
Service in the reception is completely nonexisting. They don't know how to do their job, 45 minute wait during checkin, 5 calls for towels first day before I grabbed a guy in the hallway to get towels. Room cleaning a little fluctuating, some days we got new towels nicely folded to a swan on our bed - other days no towels and no new toilet paper. Car booking for our airport drop had to be discussed for two days until they managed to get it right.
Walls and doors are paperthin and there were several noisy groups on the hotel during our stay.
Restaurant service was slow the two times we ate there so we decided to go elsewhere, there are plenty of nice places around so don't worry. Breakfast food was good but mostly of india kind, they had an omelette cook each morning during our stay.
Walk to the beach about 2 minutes, Estrelas beach chairs are the shabbiest around but there are plenty of alternatives from nearby beach shacks.

This place could be excellent but it is just dirty. Everything from the beginning to the end of our stay was a disappointment. You drive through a landfill road just before reaching the parking where dozens of dogs bark at anything that moves. The reception took 20 minutes to check us in. To keep us quiet, they brought us a "house cocktail" which must have been a mixture of petrol and sugar, gross. The resort in itself is cute. But then they take you to the room. Through dirty corridors. Into a dirty, smelly room, full of ants and other smaller bugs. Spacious though. But the walls are thin. We could hear the TV of our neighbors just as if we were sitting in front of it.
The towels in the bathroom stunk, we showered with sandals on.
And the worst part is the food. Even the seasonal fruit salad wasn't fresh.
Seriously this hotel is a shame - it could be so much better if it was better run.
Keep looking, you will definitely find something better for you stay in Goa

Good news first:
Room and bathroom- very basic, but clean. Functional.

Rest of the news:
The whole resort's surrounded by heaps of garbage. Approach road has garbage heaps, pathway to the beach begins with a garbage heap. The stench as you walk out of the gates towards Baga is unbearable, and a shortcut to the baga main rd was SO steeped in urine stench that we returned after about 100 mts to take the longer less stinky route. Drivers at the taxi stand outside the gate unabashedly use the ground around to relieve themselves.
The bar and the beach side restaurant are BuzzinG with flies. The only place in the whole Baga strip that we saw SO many flies. you cannot take your eyes off your drink/food even for a split second. A cockroach fell from above right in front of us on the bar table. Bartender looked least surprised. routine stuff i guess, considering the garbage all around.
Our check-in was delayed by an hour despite a reservation. But they bumped us up to a family room to compensate, so our room was reasonably spacious with 2 tiny bathrooms. Very dark though, and almost all the rooms' sitouts open into the common walkway, so for any privacy you need to keep the dark shades drawn all the time. Oh for better lighting. hunting in your suitcase in the dark is no fun!
Breakfast at the beachside rest. was very average. The toast would break your teeth.
Our last morning I had hurt my foot and couldn't trudge to the sandy beach rest. for b'fast, so requested b'fast in the room. I got mine, but the husband was instructed by the reception to goto the buffet alone as they would only serve the wounded in the room! and I hadnt mentioned coffee along with my b'fast, so they insisted on charging for that separately. not a problem, but certainly not hospitable.

We booked the hotel because we thought we got a good deal on Yatra.com. The hotel's desk rates are much higher. And there are supremely cleaner classy hotels in Baga at rates cheaper than what we paid.

Estrela seems to be chugging along on the high demand for rooms throughout the tourist season. No excuse for not maintaining the resort property and ignoring the infested surroundings.

We wanted to visit north Goa and chose this hotel based upon the information and pictures on their website.
At arrival it shoved they have lost our pre-paid reservation and it took almost 3 hours and a lot of telephone contact with the agency at home before we could get a room.
We did get a room similar to the one in the picture on the webside but a dark one and teribly dirty.
We asked for clean bed linen but that was too full with stains and quite disgusting.
Pay attention! If you choose to dine on the beach, your food will be served cold as the kitchen is a bit away.
Whatever you pay for a room here it will be too expensive compared with what you get!

I'm not a particularly picky person -- I review very frequently w hotels.com and with near certainty I positively recommend my stays -- so this is unusual for me to say, but even though this place is cheap it's defo not worth the money.

PROS: location is good, between Calangute and Baga beaches in North Goa (unfortunately a lot of the shacks were not operational yet on the beach when we went). About an hour from the airport, and more than 2 hours from the exponentially better beaches in South Goa like Palolem.
Food was great. Restaurant is cheap with tons of variety, and the wait staff is very nice. Breakfast buffet is filling and tasty.

CONS:
Room is no frills - run down but moderately clean but with a strong mildewy smell. Defo not as pictured in their official photos or even, oddly, in candid traveler photos.

the front desk staff is at best incompetent and at worst crooks who get commissions off certain tours/taxis. They really really push the hotel taxis out front that cost at least 50% more than any other taxi you can get on the street. We asked about a tour to Dudhsagar Falls, a major attraction in Goa, and one receptionist told me to wait for the manager, who allegedly sold tours to the Falls. After I waited for an hour she said he wasn't coming, and then she called one of her friends' companies and quoted me a price that was more than double of that on a brochure I grabbed at the airport. When I asked her about that, she called the number on the brochure and claimed that the company couldn't take us tomorrow without 10 guests -- which was an outright lie since I then walked over to the very company and they said no such thing and booked us.
One of the receptionists promised me 4 times that she would look into airport dropoff following a tour and just pretended that she had forgotten.
There's wifi in the common areas but since we were backpacking we didn't have our laptops -- and the "business center" is not a real busines center. First, it was "closed" 5 out of 6 times we asked to use it (the one time we did get in we discovered it was a narrow alley with lockers and one computer for guest use that crashes all the time).

Again, I'm no travel diva and pretty much get along with people really easily but I honestly found the front desk staff totally intolerable, which is rare for me. For the money (and this place is sort of overpriced for Calangute/Baga, where you can find tons of cheaper places that are equally if not more nice), stay elsewhere.

I would not recommend this Hotel. The first room we were shown was awful. We did not want to put our clothes down on the settee. The bathroom had litter and hadn't been cleaned. It was VERY basic. Dirty finger marks everywhere. Dingy and dark. We were shown another room nearer the pool, not much better. We didn't want to stay and were shown suites and offered anything we wanted, but we just wanted to get away. The staff were very good, the Mgr got fed up with us, because he said he would get in trouble if we left. We went to the Radisson White Sands (4 star) South Goa, but was a 100 times better. If you want a good holiday don't stay at the Estela do Mar Beach - it was very expensive as well - for what it was. Expedia take note!

If you are looking for something very basic, then this is the place for you.
The rooms are old looking and need a paint job, the floor looks like its always dirty, but its just holes in the floor. The bed linen is clean and so are the towels, but that is the only thing that is!
Breakfast is served between 7.30-930am, you get a choice of toast or toast and hot juice. If you get there at 920am they tell you they have finished serving breakfast, not fair at all.
Dont go near the swimming pool it looks like it has never been cleaned before. The hotels "private beach" is awful, its full of locals sittng right next to you staring and asking for money. You cant be in peace because every 2 seconds someone is trying to sell you something.
There is alot of very loud work going on in the hotel and they cut of the A/C and fans during the day cause there doing work, but dont tell you until you asked.
Its a real shame because the hotel has got real potential! Its just needs a few changes and cleaned from top to bottom and looked after by staff.

We stayed at this hotel in december 07 for our honeymoon the hotel room was clean but basic and its right by the beach which in its self is a good thing cos we went to have a look at some of the hotels like the NIZMAR & TICLO and you've got no chance of getting asleep right on the main road which is very busy. The hotel food wasn't nice and we where the only English people that was staying at the hotel. I will warn the faint hearted though if you've never been here before perpare yourself cos its a big eye-opener poverty, begging, hassled on the beach you buy this you have a look at my stuff just learn to say no straight away and don't be taken in by GITA AND HER FAMILY & ALAN THEY ARE JUST TRYING TO RIP YOU OFF BUY IN THE MARKET. The best place to eat is East Meets West (Fillet Steak with Chips 300 Rupees about £4). Don't book your trips with the Travel Company book them over there cos they just rip you off they wanted £48 per couple to go to Adjuna Market when we got a taxi for 400 Rupee's that took us there & back and he waits for as long as you want him to for just £5 big difference. Also the Water Falls is about 3 hours away and the roads are not very good and you only spend about 45 mins at the falls then feed the monkeys then its back you come, Elephant and Spice Plantation was good would recommend. Any Questions just ask

The access road to the hotel goes through a dumpsite. The ground floor rooms are damp and smelly from fungus and almost without sunlight. Behind the hotel lays a bare, garbage sprayed area, occupied by stray dogs and tarpaulin huts. Although far away from the main Calangute road, it says something about the noise surrounding the hotel that earplugs is offered in bulk from a large box.
The only thing, Estrela Do Mar has going for it is the short distance to the beach along a nice and clean path.

But when i reached hotel, i realised my mistake.
1.Rooms was not upto the mark.
2.Resort was like a lodge.
3.Swimming Pool not clean.
4.Beach was not attached, but detached.
u will have to walk long to the beach.
Not recomended for leisure holiday. Complete let off.
In future will check reviews at trip advisor before finalising hotels for stay.

We were misguided by a popular travel agency to book into this hotel citing that it was a great price for hotel closest to the beach and in between Baga and Calangute. While both the facts were correct, we were least ready for what else was in store. There was a crematorium just next to the hotel near its entrance. To get to the beach at any time you have to walk past the walls of the crematorium. This completely spooked out my family. The room ACs were noisy and hardly effective. The hot water geysers were at best good in giving lukewarm water and the showers were a joke. We never had any meals in the hotel, except for breakfast where the staple item was eggs / omelets. The only one who seemed to like the pool was my three year old daughter given its tiny size.
The only good part was that one could walk to the beach in swimwear from the hotel and be back without any hassle of changing on the beach. It is indeed midway between Calangute and Baga. One could either walk right to Baga or left towards Calangute. All the water sports were also right across on the beach. There were ample cabs and bikes outside the gates to hop onto and go the market or other places around.
Since we spent most of our time outside and returned only for sleep at night, I guess the poor state of the place did not spoil our mood. But anyone imagining a great time in this place will have a big shock.

I had selected this hotel because i had got a good deal. I had directly contacted the hotel and transferred money to their account for beach hut. LAter there was one more person added to our trip (now we were 3 instead of 2). We contacted the hotel and they changes our room to executive which is suppossed to be one of the best. The hotel had to give a refund us the difference of rates to us. The never gave. they say they will transfer to my account but it did not happen. Now when i call them they completely deny that such a refund had t be made. Their sales managers Karan and Aniket now totally avoind my calls.

Inspite of making the booking we were made to wait one hour before checin. the room was being cleaned only after we arrived. The promised wlcome drink was never to be seen. The one bottle of wine that was complimentary never came.
Regarding the stay, it was even worse. We stayed for three nights. The A/c made a noise as loud as a morning alarm. was not able to sleep because of the same. The second day they sent a mechanic to repair it. After repair it made the A/c worse. the sound remained and the cooling was no longer there.
To top this all on the third day there was a rat that entered the room. It was not a small one, it was as big as 1 feet.

The restaurant is a nice 3 to 4 minutes walk from the hotel. The place is dirty stink and filled with flies. We decide not to have meals there after our first day.

The room service guys are also very rude. they do not turn up at all.

All in all a pathetic place to be to.

That much for a walk to the beach!!! The pool is of bare minimum size and dirty!!! Took us 4 hrs to check in. We were 10 people and they send one car for airport pickup!!! and that too we had to locate him in the parking dragging our kids and bags along!!!

All in all don't even think of this place, even if last place left in goa...a total no no!!!

This place sucks...what greets you is a large in construction building as soon as you enter. The sound of hammers is so loud that you cannot hear the person at reception. They do not even greet you when you stand at the tiny reception area. This guy just grabbed my booking confirmation and gave the keys. The rooms are average and you are never sure if you got the executive you booked. I met a guy and he said he had a executive and it had a bathtub. Mine had none but they said its an executive. The pillow stank like a rat died in it. . The place is FAR from Calangute beach 'where the action is'. The beach to resort is close but the spot this resort is on, is isolated. The real calangute is a good 15-20 mins walk abong the beach. This resort is the corner of that beach strip so doesnot feel safe to be on the beach espcially when we saw just one group of 5 completely drunk on the beach and creating chaos. Also resort is very popular for big groups of young people who just want to get drunk and crash in a room. I cant believe they let so many people live in one room. Food was average. Lots of oil floating on everything. I guess you would book if you hit your head somewhere. Mine still hurts...

I suggest not to even think about staying in this resort in your dreams. I went to goa along with my family and looking at the reviews at the tripadvisors. I guess these guys have created fake profiles to write good reviews, which directly hits the trustworthiness of tripadvisors as well.

Moment we landed into the resort we decided to move out of it and we did. The rooms were filthy, the swimming pool had filth too, room services was pathetic. Even a simple tea and toast took 45 minutes to arrive that too after yelling at the staff.

And, top it all the staff is most discourteous and 'do whatever u can' kind of attitude. They took 80% of the money advance (which they claim is their policy!!!!) and were not ready to return the money.

Since I am a lawyer it was still easy for me to threaten them and take the money out. I am sure lot of people would have gotten trapped and stayed there with a screwed up mood!

Very pathetic service.
Food comes 2 hrs after ordering.
Lots of flies in the food.

They charged us for family room and gave us a very small room.
Room ceilings are leaking. Food quality is also pathetic.

No value for money. Management is very rude.
Rooms are not the way they have shown in website. Swimming pool is very small and very dirty.
Please avoid.............

if anyone is planning to stay at this hotel...my suggestion would be to not make the trip at all...the hotel is unhygienic, unmaintained and in an absolutely worst location..right next to a funeral place...obviously u dont want to see a funeral place of the hindus everytime u turn towards the hotel...the rooms are infested with cockraoches and bed bugs, the bathrooms are dirty and no hot water facility, showers dont work. The so called restaurant lacks even a good flooring and fitted only with loose unkept broken tiles which can land u in a hospital if u are not careful while walking on it. The dining area is infested with flies..one cannot think of eating the food served forget enjoying it...the staff is helpless and they know the situation...they will only listen to your complaints and will not even tender a simple apology...this shows that they are accustomed to listining to these complaints from all their guest....even the manager is unconcerned. So unless u want to take charge of the hotel mismangement and spoil your holiday...pls pls pls do not ever book in this hotel even if someone offered the rooms free of cost.
i had booked this thru make my trip...my suggestion to them is to black list this hotel from their recommendation to their customers... this hotel calls itself 3 star...its not even worth quarter star....its our worst experience amongst all our holidays.
Also forgot to mention about the water accumulation in the room when it was raining in the night.....absolutely not acceptable....

Let me first request all the readers of this review that please do not fall in the trap of the website of Estrela Do Mar. As usual the pictures shown at the website were of the time when the resort was newly constructed.

I booked the resort under the package 3 days 4 nights package + one day complimentary from their side. Now see what I got.

1) Booking confirmation was late.
2) When you reach the entrance of the resort it is crowded with taxi Cabs. (You have to come out again to park your vehicle to the so called backside parking.)
3) The resort was too con justed, built on a small piece of land.
4) The reception is pathetic. There itself you get an idea that your decision of booking at this resort was totally wrong.
5) Welcome Drink was O.K.
6) Reception Staff looks like housekeeping staff. They make you wait there for long time and finally allot a shabby room whereby there were used and unchanged pillow covers and bed covers of earlier customer and loose wires with no proper electrical fittings to have sufficient light.
7) We have to call again and again for the extra beds.
8) A.C. runs on its willingness (Thanks to frequent power cuts)
9) The maintenance of the room is poor.
10) Swimming pool is quite similar to a bath tub. (Don't bring your swimsuits at all if you really wish to stay here since the tank is always full or crowded with number of people at a particular time. Its better to have a bath in bathroom wearing swimsuits than to swim there)
11) Breakfast is arranged late by 15 to 20 minutes than the stipulated time of 7.30 a.m. So, never go there on time. Food quality is like on Dhaba or a standard restaurant.
Note.: We found one dead fly in our upma. We bring this fact to the person in charge over there. But, no regrets, sorry s or apologizes from there side. The person just took the dish to the dust bin and cleaned it. The cockroaches were running in between the cutlery arranged while buffet break fast. The location of dining (breakfast/lunch/dinner) was wrong in first place. There were 4 to 5 Cats wondering here n there below your tables. No proper Light and Fan arrangement was in place over there.

We checked out of resort leaving on our complimentary add on day, for the above reasons and one major reason that the resort staff could not attend our complaint of not getting hot water since 6.30 a.m. till 9.30 a.m. We returned to Pune without having a bath. When the staff realized there mistake, it was too late. They did not anticipate this and took this incidence very lightly.

The list of things missing from the this resort were:

Courtesy, Apologies, Sorrys, prompt action and reply, responsibility, accountability, careless attitude, cleanliness, hygiene, good food quality and so on.....

This was our experience during our stay from 29th May till 2nd June 2011.
So, decide yourself before booking here ....

Firstly, like other reviews have said, do not be fooled by the website pictures. The reality is far different. Its actually laughable looking on their website after experiencing the worst start to a holiday we have had.

We were firstly taken to a room that had crumbling plaster coming off the walls, a dirty bathroom and an extremely loud air-conditioning system. We asked to move and were given another room that was pretty much the same. The bathroom is very basic and had a very strong smell of drainage and urine. We couldn't sleep at night because the air-con system is like having a car engine reving constantly in your ear.

We had reserved this hotel for 3 nights and because we hadn't paid for it we decided to leave after the first night. After an argument with a very rude hotel manager (who shouts at his staff agressively and laughs at customers) we paid for one night and left.

Lesson learnt; never book packages ,the pictures of the rooms shown on internet are deceptive, read reviews before booking,

Arriving at the hotel it appeared that we were not expected although we had booked 3 days in advance, the staff excused and said the internet was not working. We were offered a small room that smelled from damp and mould and with a very strong smell from the sewer. Far from the executive room we had booked and which looked nice on the internet. We refused the room and after some discussion it appeared that the hotel in fact did have another room to offer. This room did not smell from the sewer but was still damp and with clear signs of mould on the walls. The bedsheets were grey and spotted. In general the hotel seemed to be in very bad condition with holes in the roof (covered with plastic) open sewers, dirty pool, flies all over and in urgent need of cleaning. In addition to this the staff seemed to be very young and without the nescessary experience to deal with customer complaints. We stayed there one night and after having an unacceptabel breakfast next morning (no coffee, no fruit, no juice) we decided not to let a terrible hotel ruin our holiday in Goa. So we checked out which caused a lot of trouble with the staff and the manager trying to force us to stay. Finally after an hour of discussion we had our passports returned so we could leave. The hotel was paid in advance almost US$ 100/night so why did they keep our passports? Later I have seen many complaints about this hotel on the internet, I should have checked it in advance. The result was that we paid almost US$ 700 for one night in a terrible hotel booked and paid in advance through Agoda.com and with no chance of getting the money back, due to the hotels cancellation policy. The fact that the hotel did not deliver what we paid for seems not to count.

I paid for an excecutive suite and got absolute garbage. This is a typical tourist trap, they give a good rate, fabulous photos on the net then when you get there the owner is just exploiting every penny he can get without upkeeping his investment. Sheets are laundered but grey and brown with age, pillows under their covers full of sweat and filth. bathroom has open slot glass windows with no mosquito netting and door hanging by upper roller, the walls were painted 10 years ago ,the pool was dirty , every light fitting filthy throughout the building as well as every surface.
Also everything is an extra charge; towels 50 rupees per day, fridge 300/day, locker100 rupees per day and in the reception.
. . We could not stay one night and went to another hotel 200yds up the beach ( same price no extra charges and bueautiful.)The name of which I will not mention because I dont want anyone to think this reveiw was written by a competitor. You really have to shop around in Goa becuase there are a lot of slum landlords/ hoteliers cashing in on the holiday season who dont put one penny into the upkeep of the buildings unless they absolutely have to.
We thought about showing the staff some of the these things becuase they were very courtious and freindly but we have been coming back and for to India for 10 years and as some readers already know unless the owner points out the filth they either dont see it or dont care.
Strangely the garden was well kept. Mabye it was to give a good outward appearance for walk in customers.

The hotel is too much over priced. The room service sucks. The average waiting time os 45 minutes for the reception to respond. Its dirty. Every effort is made to earn money by charging exorbitant prices. Foreigners are exploited. Even the nearby beach is not that good.
Overall a total waste of money. Its not even a proper 3 star.

It is best to avoid this resort. It claims to be a beach resort but the beahc is a good half km walk from the property and the walk is through a graveyard. On top of that they over charge and produce extra bills for room service. Additionally, the website shows a beach shack for people to enjoy. However, there is no beach shack - apparently they set it up in peak season post 1st November (which I am not in a position to verify). There was construction going on at the property, the swimming pool was dirty and left us scratching our body post our swim, there was no restauant but a terrace converted into a buffet area and one peep into their kitchen will make you feel full and no longer hungry!

Overall it is not hte place to enjoy your Goa holiday, specially if you a re looking for a beach stay. Beware - this place is best avoided.

Just to say some...
1. Dirty Rooms
2. Smelly rooms
3. Lack of Privacy, thinnest possible curtains
4. Non working telephone in the rooms
5. No hot water
6. Insects and worms in the bathroom
7. Pool filled with filth
8. Food served with insects
9. Staff is mostly uneducated and unfriendly
10. Manager does not have any answers to your complaints
11. Location is just disgusting, no proper road.
12. FINALLY THIS HOTEL IS NOT ON THE BEACH AT ALL.

I spent 5 nights at Estrela do mar resort in calangute, Goa. I decided to splash out and treat myself in the 'good/special' deluxe room. I have to say that this is by far the worst and dirtiest place i have ever stayed in. I have been to many places that include cambodia, Vietnam, Inner China, Sri Lanka BUT Estrela do mar has to be the worst! Please do not be fooled by the photos that you see on the internet. These are put on by the hotel. Any positive comments (pretending to be visitors or guests)seen are also most probably put up by the hotel management...........all lies.
Here are the problems;
1. Road entering Estrela is always flooded with sewage........very hazardous to health.
2. Expect Estrela to have electrical cuts, up to 4 to 5 times a day especially at night unlike the neighbouring hotels which have invested in generators.
3. Millions of mosquitoes especially at night when you have to open the window because of power cut.
4. Pathways in, out and around Estrela are ridden with holes and cracks.
5. Bathroom does not have proper shower, instead a bucket and dish is provided. No tissue paper.
6. Bedroom has an awful pungent smell due to th mould found on the walls and ceilings.
7. You are not allowed to bring in outside food and drink. This includes drinking water, peanuts, beer and snacks. The security guard will check your bag. If you give him Rs50 he shuts one eye.
8. There is no gym.
9. The swimming pool is extremely dirty filled with feaces, hair and dead leaves. It is surrounded by dead trees.
10. The pool sun-tan chairs are made of rotting wood and rusting nails.
11. The beach is 1km away. The short cut to the beach has been closed by the owner of the land. Now 'prisoners' of Estrela do mar resort have to walk a further distance. Estrela DOES NOT have chairs and shacks on the beach as seen on their website, all lies!
12. The Estrela staff are annoying and unfriendly. The manager is the worst. Good at making excuses.
13. Meals at Estrela do mar resort wil lead to serious stomach problems and diarhoea!
14. The bar is not mentioning!

All in all, i had to stay there. They did not want to refund me. I wanted to leave after 1 day but i was told that i would hot be refunded. So i had to do the best i could i.e clean the room, toilet and balcony myself. Buy air freshner.
Anyway if you are reading this and still wondering whether to stay at Estrela please for God sake NO!
I would recommend other nearby hotels. Infact there are many rooms for rent by families everywhere. Most ask for RS300 to 500 (US$10-12) Just ask any taxi driver for location around Calangute, Baja and Anjuna (these are all next to each other 1 to 2 km), im sure he will be able to find you a room.....plenty around.
By the way please have a look at the many photos that i have posted showing the great disgust and problems of the Estrela do mar resort/hotel.

Hopeless cleanliness and poor quality of rooms. It advertises itself to be located on the beach...but it is a good 5 minutes walk. No shacks/beach chairs on the beach either as shown in the photos. Maintenance of room amenities is poor. Taxi union outside the hotel tries to rip you. In short...stay away from this resort.

I celebrated my Parent's 25th anniversary there.
Gave the resort a business of 110 guests only to get DISAPPOINTMENT in return.

More than half the rooms have nonoperational doors and locks. For all four days there was no water in the rooms from 6am and no hot water till 8, as they have a solar heater. We complained for all four days and then they would start the water supply.

The staff is really rude. They dont go out of their way to make their guests comfortable. The staff does not stick to any commitments made by them to their guests.

They have no concern for the older members of the family.

And a lot more, that I would not like to mention here.

I had a hell of an experience in that hotel and I know I am never even by mistake going there again.

Dont go with site photographs. They always misguide you.

Let me put my thoughts in points :)

1) You do not get luxary or abience for which you pay for
2) Receptionists are always confused and bound to make horrible mistakes
3) We had a stay of 2 nights and 3 days. But recpetionists thought we are checking out on the same day we checked in and prepared the bill
4) To add to this stupid mistakes they made us to clear the first day bill instead of settling it in the end.
5) Room service is tooooo bad. No water is kept in the room. Just empty jug. And it did not fill up inspite of calling them many times.
6) Location of hotel is also not too good though it is near to beach.
7) Near by hotel there is one mandir and they had a local jatra. And believe me it was chaos. Hotel guys did not mention this before booking.

Only good thing i thought was morning breakfast. Thats it !!

Definite No to this hotel next time !!

We had stayed in this hotel for 2 nights and 3 days. We got the rooms in 15 minutes when we reached to hotel. But good start does not always mean you will have good end :)
The rooms were fine but definitely did not meet our expectation. They did not even provided the linen and when we asked for it was very dirty. The rooms were clean but approach road for the room were very congested and not much pleasant. The most horrific thing was room service. At arrival we ordered for two mocktail Pina colada and they served us 1 cocktail Pina colada. We had asked for 2 empty glass and we got only 1. We had asked for 1 Bisleri water bottle which we never got.

But at the time of check out we got the bill for which we never ordered. When we checked the bill, the bill was for date 5th feb and we had checked in on 6th Feb. But manager was not ready to accept this. He said he has to verify from room service boy and then he called him. Boy took 45 mins to come and we had to wait there till the time he comes.
The hotel has swimming pool and I never saw it clean. The food was fine but in Goa you can get much better food. Breakfast was good.

The beach side dining area is good but does not match to the photo publish on site.
Overall we did not enjoy our stay in hotel and we preferred to be out as much as possible rather than being in room.

The familyrooms on this hotel are as small as the double rooms. With two extra beds (we had to take out two tables just to fit in the extra madresses) there was no space to go. It felt lika living in a hostel, besides it we had to pay es\xtra for the children.

The AC never worked and there was small animals in the bathrooms. The rrom smelled blackmold and the walls have waterdamage. The staff is friendly but promise everything but never do as they sad.

Knowledge in food cocking is terrible. We had to pay 2500/person for gala dinner. It was served at the beach. One hour before they should start the dinner the food was already there. We had hungry kids so we was there to play so we saw. One hour after scheduled time we finaly whe alowed to take food. But al food that suposed to be warm was cold. I work with restaurants and food must held 62 degress so it not go bad. The children was to tired to eat and it was lucky because after ten days in india we was veryy sick for two days.

We were moved from room to room because there were many problems with clogged toilets, drains and tiny rooms. On top of it all when it rains the roof leaked and the bed was soaked. So we cut our 4 day stay in Goa short and checked out early.. But had to fight a lot to get the refund on the two nights we didnt spend there. The staff cant understand much English and are quite rude at times. I wouldnt recommend this Hotel to anyone.

We have stayed here for three days. We have booked an executive room, but the executive room was very very worst. The room is with full of bad smell. And the breakfast hall was not upto the limit. Only the toilet and bathrooms are clean. It is very close to the calangute beach. But it is not easily accessable with other locations. If you go out, you will find difficult to return to this hotel. Never book any package with this hotel. They are not providing anything as they have mentioned in the package. So many persons are complaining in the hotel reception. But they are not carring about. The last but not least, be aware of the taxi drivers out side of the hotel. We have booked a cab from outside to drop us in Airport. As we have booked outside, they argued with the manager and the outside drivers cancelled our booking. They told us, we have to take the cab only from them and they will provided the A/C cab. So we booked the wagaonr with A/C cab and went to sleep. In the moring while we were checkout the hotel, they came with omni without A/C for the same price. The explanation they have given was, the person who spoke with us last night didn't inform about the type of cab. Thats why they came with the omni without A/C. These type of irresponsible replies you will get for all type of services.Overall it is a very bad experience.

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. Check-in was a horror. From the moment I landed, the unfriendly front-office staff kept on reminding me that I have to pay the 'balance amount' of Rs 10000 in full, upfront, before I could be given any room. The hotel took the payment in credit card, but after charging a silly 2% 'service fee'. This was non-negotiable with them, even in today's times! The front office is managed by 4-5 kids (not joking) who have no idea on how to manage a hotel.

I had booked two rooms (4 adults + 1 child), and to be on the safer side, I had booked the Executive Room (highest category). From what we got, I wonder what the lower category rooms were like! We got the rooms in some remote corner of the resort, since "everything else was full". THERE IS NO VENTILATION IN THE ROOMS. So, you have to keep the AC on for your full stay. We later managed to get the rooms changed the next day, after a lot of requests. Transfer of the luggage was another struggle, and for a while, none of us knew where our luggage was!

The complementary breakfast is sad. There is hardly any spread. Expect one or two main dishes for breakfast. When you have breakfast, expect a Sardarji gentleman who is supposed to be the proprietor of the hotel, who will bug you will questions about "your experience in this hotel", and take down notes with an important look. But don't expect any action from that!

Any kind of housekeeping request (even simple ones like refilling the drinking water) had to be made at least thrice on each occassion.

The front office staff is unskilled and rude. I was made to wait a full half-an-hour while checking out, as they tried to locate a room service bill of Rs 60 for some tea they had provided. Mind you, this was AFTER I had settled all bills in the morning of the check out, including tea bills. I ultimately stormed out without paying this extra Rs 60 (as the bill could not be located), but the hotel guys again called up later, saying that they have later located the bill. Tired of speaking any further with them, I sent the cash through my taxi driver.

For the price I paid (Rs 17000 for 2 rooms for 3 nights), it was not worth the experience.

I booked two nights here on last minute.com. We booked a standard room, but on arrival we were given a minute room with no windows which stank.

We were allocated a better room when we requested a new room. The new room was OK but the general hotel is very poor.

The hotel does not look like the photos, the pool is gross. Speakers are located across the campus and play loud music all day long.

There was no hot water.

We moved to the Goesa hotel next door; this hotel was a similar price, but much much better.

We arrived at this hotel at 2pm, the porters who came to take our bags we roughly dressed and wernt even friendy. The lady at the reception gave us our room key and we got an orange juice for the welcome drink.

After we entered our room (303 family room) ... it was disgusting. The walls werent painted, the toilets we thin and small, the shower was 30cm away from the toilet! One of the fans were broken, the cable was out (so no tv), even the sofa was just a bunkbed with no top.

Anyway, so we then went to see around the place, there was no one in the pool as it was FILTHY.

On the bright side the beach nearby was clean and nice. But we wernt aloud to swim in it because it was monsoon season so its dangerous.

We booked this hotel for 3 nights, but we left next day.The head person said "You have the best room available, i cant upgrade you to something better"So, if you are planning to go to Goa, then DONT/NEVER stay at a 1,2,3 star hotel. Not even 4 star!!

Room size is just like a bathroom 3 Walls room with forth side covered by A glass door " You have to put on curtain for the privacy. Bathroom is just of the size of a toilet in indian trains. To Much Smelling rooms. We arrived at evening checked in , when we reached our room , it was dirty , smelling and of very small size , we called up reception , they changed the room , and other room was provided on first floor , no proper way to reach the first floor, they made a bridge like way on the iron rods to reach the room . Room Size was same again . They then shifted us to a executive room near the pool , again the same size and smelling room , finally we decided NOT TO STAY THERE. we reached the reception after wasting 3 hrs and take a taxi to Alor The Grande where we have stayed last year and finally sleep without any problem .

We booked the hotel based on the pictures in the hotels.com website and many other websites as well as the description but when we arrived there, absolutely nothing like the pictures or the description! The worst hotel I have ever seen!! We booked a deluxe room and we were given a tiny dirty room with no even toilet paper! The bed sheets looked clean but were covered in dark stains and the towel ,only 2 tiny ones provided, were the same. The walls are really dirty and have not been painted in 20 years, they even had some writting on them!! The door to the toilet was a struggle to open and close and the toilet was even more basic than the the whole hotel! The swimming pool was dirty and was not even full, even if if was, the water would not go over your knees. No umbrellas were available, which means that your only option was your room if you wanted shade under the scorching sun. The beach is more than a walk away and is very isolated (rather than peaceful) wtih no one around but mounts of rubbish and junk on the way from the hotel. To make things worse, they were doing some works on top of our room and the noise was constant and awful and there were men transporting long bars of iron constantly going through the swimming pool. Definitely would not recommend this hotel to anybody, whatever your budget, there are better options in Goa, don't be fooled by the pictures, rooms are nothing like the ones in them and photoshop has defintely been used. We checked out on our frst day and found a great hotel that made our Goan holidays unforgettable.

This is honestly the worst hotel i have stayed at. It is rated by travelocity as a 3 star but i would say it is not even worthy of one star. We were given a damp room at first. Bed linen had stains so did the towels. Second room was ok meaning no dampness. but again stained linen etc.We managed through the night using multiple locks on our bags and used all available locks on the doors/windows. Pool was not in use because it had mould all around it. The beach was walking distance but very isolated. Not good at all. This hotel should be shut down. Will not recommend this hotel to anybody travelling to goa. It was my first time to goa and probably my worst holiday ever. We eventually booked alternate accomodation for the rest of our stay and loved it. Case da Goa is beautiful.

Having just returned from this hotel I can honestly say its the worst hotel I have ever stayed in - and I am a seasoned traveller!
The rooms were not as advertised - we booked a superior room
The ceiling of bedroom & bathroom was black with damp- also smelly after being closed all day
The breakfast restaurant was swarming with flies - especially around the food preparation area- I saw a waiter pick a dead fly out of a glass of fruit juice and then serve to a guest
The plastic tables were engrained with dirt - needed a good scrub with bleach
The pool was dirty and the surrounding areas were never cleaned
The bar was never well stocked - couldnt even get a bottle of cold water ! and the old tables were just planks of wood and also seating area was very muddy - not a pleasant place to sit !
The brochure and website advertised internet facilities -- NO - always when we asked every day the internet wasdown - although the receptionist was always using the computer.
We had the added misfortune of being next to the stairway - all night long people up & down the stairs and banging doors.
Also the 24 hour taxi service was right under our room - with the drivers talking all night & playing music
The walkway to the beach was a rubbish tip and the locals using this as their " toilet "- extremely smelly and very un hygenic.
The only good thing about this hotel was the lovely comfy bed with thick new mattress and clean bed linen & towels daily.
