I stayed here for a week, and the service and furnishings exceeded my expectations based on some of the reviews I had read. The hotel is very reasonably priced, and is very pleasant, I guess some guests expect to get a 5 star hotel for 3 star prices. The hotel furnishings were nicely done, clean and fresh. The food in the restaurant was good and reasonably priced; I liked the local food in the breakfast buffet. Every single staff member I worked with for a week was helpful and polite. The front desk staff booked a car for me so that I could get to meetings. I had good internet access and the business center was always able to take care of any printing or scanning requests I had. The hotel is located in the central business district more or less on top of the Kawran Bazar, which is colorful but a bit intense.

I stayed here for 2 days at the beginning of April. I booked it online and organised an airport pick up (which was free) and they picked me up no problem.

The hotel is very nice and from the window you can see the sprawling mass of humanity otherise knows as Kawran Bazar close by. The hotel was comparable to other decent hotels I've stayed in such as Dubai, Bahrain, Kuala Lumpur etc, but it seemed friendlier.

The hotel was clean and had everything that you could want, and it served the local beer- Hunter (which looks suspiciously like Fosters!)

My room also had plug in internet for my laptop.

The mananger also took time to speak to me and was a very nice chap.

If I ever return to Dhaka then this is where I will stay.

The hotel is in the heart of the Dhaka. The staff is extremely friendly & warm. Nice food. Quaint little bar with a Live Band & Gazals on 2 days. The rooms have high speed internet connectivity & Cable TV with a wide variety of channels. On the whole, it was a very pleasant stay

Get your beer from outside! heavily priced at the hotel. that apart, pleasant staff, good food, and acceptable service levels.

From the moment the car drew up outside the hotel, I knew that this one was going to be "different". It's across the road from the sprawling confusion that is the Kawran Bazaar - Dhaka's largest Agro-market (fruit & veg galore - mostly wholesale). Neatly uniformed hotel staff quickly whisked me and my bags to the lobby where check in was quick and easy.

The staff in the hotel were great - really friendly & helpful. They did ask a lot of the usual questions (where are you from, what do you do, and so on), but it was all done very pleasantly. The food in the restaurant was good - a mix of Italian and Indian. I didn't try any of the Italian food - but the curries were excellent.

It's a reasonably priced hotel and comes complete with a bar where you can buy Heineken (ugh) and Hunter (a local "malt drink" - 5% ABV - which comes in a tinnie that bears a remarkable resemblance to the Australian beer which famously begins with an "F").

Go, stay, enjoy - but do go over to the Bazaar with your camera. What an experience!!

Some other reviews have complained about the noise. I was at the front of the thotel, looking over the market. OK, I was on the 10th floor, but couldn't hear a thing.

I'll be back in Bangladesh before too long. I already know where I'll be staying.

I stayed in the hotel for almost a week. My wife was attending a course. We chose this hotel as it was the most affordable Western type hotel and because of the warm and friendly reply to our email. The hotel has free airport pick up. The airport drop off was a reasonable US15$. Traffic tends to be busy around the hotel as it is situated beside the city's wholesale vegetable market. However the room I stayed in was well insulated from noise.
Almost all of the staff of the hotel that I met have been helpful and friendly. On my last day the staff saved me from missing my flight. I forgot to confirm my return flight. The front office manager informed me that the hotel was picking up guests earlier than expected as the inbound flight to Dhaka was retimed. He asked me to check when my flight would be leaving. On checking with the airline office in Dhaka I found out that my flight departure was 4 hours earlier.
The location of the hotel is in between the new and old part of the city and is convenient for both. The hotel is 10 minutes walking distance to Dhaka's biggest mall Bashundara which has a food court and various shops selling well made traditional shirts/ dress where I finally found a beautiful traditional shirt which could fit me (Bangladesh size XXL is probably Western size L). There's a small supermarket on the ground floor.

Having seen some of the reviews of this hotel I was a little concerned but when I arrived the staff were courteous, the room clean, the internet worked and the rooftop restaurant had one of the best ranges of food I have seen in hotels of this price in Dhaka. The location is not perfect being as one review has said, next to a large wholesale food market and the traffic in downtown Dhaka means that getting anywhere is not that easy or fast but that's not the hotel's fault!

Hotel Best Western La Vinci is quite nice I say! The staff are calm yet some can be quite energetic and highly talkative. The service is ok and the hotel lobby looks clean and quiet. The rooms can be slightly better if the hotel staff could make the lights brighter and add some nice scents to the room such as jasmine or sandalwood to reduce the smell of dusts. The only complaint I got to say is the blackout management. Sometimes the hotel electricity can really turn off randomly and the generators need to reactivate the electricity faster so that the hotel's guests need not worry about blackouts for the whole day or for the WHOLE night. The restaurant at the top offers a gigantic view of the Dhaka congested city and the food is simple but edible. The television has good programmes frm India as well as Movie blockbuster channels like STAR Movies and Discovery Channel plus news.

This hotel s also a safe quiet haven especially during Bangladesh's aggessive monsoon seasons.

Centrally located and in direct neighbourhood to the wholesale market with all its bustling exotic activity but also the particular problems of the country re. overpopulation and poverty, the La Vinci makes you feel being in the "real' Bangladesh. Those who would not feel comfortable in such surrounding should better resort to the more western type area of Gulshan. The La Vinci is a medium sized hotel. After a few days you feel as if you know all the staff and vice verca. The staff is very friendly and observant and reflect the general friendliness you find accross the country. The rooms are up to the indicated standard of the hotel, clean, functional, suficiently spacious and appropriate also for business travellers. The selection of the breakfast buffet is ok though a little biased towards Asian eating habits (no cheese, only one jar of jam - but lots of what we would rather take for lunch). The restaurant on the top floor offers a nice view over the city (provided clear sight!!). The free use of the business center was extremly helpful. Compared to other hotels you receive positive value for La Vinci's rather moderate rate. I enjoyed my stay and would come again.

The room I stayed at the La Vinci was very comfortable and clean. The air-con was cold even with turning the temperature up, but nothing that turning the air con off doesn't solve. The bathroom was very clean, and I'm a stickler for a clean bathroom (more so than bedroom). The staff were responsive and friendly. The food at the Restaurant on Level 12 was good. I only had the Indian/local choices (not the western) and thoroughly enjoyed all my meals. Breakfast was good too. I stayed here 3 nights. My only hesitation is that my particular hotel room on the 10th floor facing the exotic wholesale market did not have double-glazed windows. In chatting with another hotel guest on the 3rd floor, he mentioned that his room was double-glazed, so if you are thinking of staying here, do request a room that is either double-glazed or not facing the market. I always travel with foam ear plugs, and used them every night to cut out the constant honking and other energetic noises from the street below that seems to be a 24 hour thing! Oh, there is free unlimited internet in the room which is always much appreciated!

I stayed at the La Vinci for 4 nights. Airport pickup was in shared shuttle and free. Rooms are ok. Buffet breakfast limited but sufficient. Room service was good and housekeeping helpful. Internet was paid and requires LAN (no wi fi).
Service in the restaurant in the evenings is very poor - long waits and half forgotten orders. Food is average but the Italian dishes are better than the rest, Beer $$$. The airport drop was paid and Hotel charged $ 15. The service tax and VAT add 25% to the list prices and I still ended up tipping.

For some reason, it appeared every hotel in Dhaka was booked the week I recently stayed. I'd not have chosen somewhere so far (20km) from the airport. Indeed, during the day it took an hour to get to the hotel.
The La Vinci is not great; it's located in a rather ugly tower block and the facilities are not terrific. The food is not great, though the breakfast is ok. However, the rooms - whilst small - are clean and modern and there's an internet connection that usually works. There's even a bar on the 13th floor with views over the city. Another positive is the staff, who work hard to please.

The best thing about this hotel is the friendly staff - front desk, door person are all very helpful and polite. Price is very average for what you get. Breakfast is very average. Rooms are more like 2 star rooms, a bit run down. They are clean though. Beds are soft and bumpy, air conditioner is strong but smells a bit. They only have wireless internet connection on the 5th floor business center, 6th floor lobby (only the front area) and the 12 floor restaurant (only the front area). They have ethernet connections in the room but unfortunately, I have a Mac so that did not work out well for me. Business center needs a lot of work. The small room has 3 very slow computers and the desks are cluttered up with tons of paper. I think it also serves as an office/reservation service for the hotel. Since I had my own computer, I was constantly asked to moved by the staff as I was working on my computer and did not need one of theirs. It is noisy in the hotel from morning to night (ALL Night) - you can hear constant traffic and honking from the streets below and we were on the 9th floor. Not much of a workout center. It is a very small windowless room next to a smoking bar. No in room safe. Also, another thing that bothered me as a woman - there is no interior lock on the doors of the bedroom in which the occupants can lock up while they are in the room. I fell asleep one afternoon and did not hear the knocks - next thing I knew someone was in the room (housekeeping) spraying air fresheners in. That really freak me out. I will not shower while alone in the room until my husband is also in the room with me.

I was impressed with the very warm service extended by the front desk and the ever-smiling bell captains. The rooms were big but had a low quality look. Breakfast was good. The location was a busy bazaar and main downtown. Missed a swimming pool. Internet did not work in my room and I had to go down to the business centre for accessing emails.

I was booked there by my business associate there due to close location to his office. This hotel is better known as La Vinci, so when you say Best Western, most people wouldn't know.

The hotel provides free shuttle pick up from airport, so make sure to book it prior to arrival in Dhaka. Since the hotel is located in Kawran Bazar, it is better to request for a room that is not having a window facing front side of hotel, unless you are resistant to noise. Kawran Bazar is the largest market for domestic products (vegetables, coconuts, etc.), so traders will download the merchandise before dawn; meaning : lots of noise. Just ask the hotel reception to provide you with "nice and quite room".

Other things :
1. Breakfast : it is usually provided included with your room rate. The food is very standard : roti prata/naan, rice/glass noodle, chicken sausage, instant juice, cereal & milk, bean with sauce. Not much or changes each day. Taste is just standard.

2. Location : as said before it is near to Kawran Bazar, but also very nearby to the biggest shopping center there (Bashundara city). To go there, you could take a taxi which would take about 15 minutes (normal traffic) or 30 minutes (rush hour). Or just walk to right (main road), go left direction, cross the road with under pass, and then go to the alley that will lead you to parking lot of Bashundara city. Bashundara city is closed every Wednesday (food court still open). Be reminded to pay attention to your own security especially going out late night.

3. Internet connection : the hotel provides broad band internet inside the room. You would need the password from business center or if it doesn't work, ask for their assistance. They are very helpful.

4. Business center : is available with PC, photocopy, fax machine. It is however a small one.

5. Room : Quite good, especially they are having new "Bengali Tiger motive" carpets. You could enjoy both cable channels (HBO, Star Movies, etc.) and local channels in Bengali language. Cabinet is available, fridge is empty (so please bring your own canned beverage if necessary), internet connection is available. A 1 liter bottled water will be made available to you everyday.

6. Toilet : Quite clean with very standard amenity. The room where I stayed had loose shower head, but overall things are just fine.

7. Electricity problem : Bangladesh has been challenged with electricity shortage for years already now. So prepare yourself for more than 8x black out/day. However, this hotel has own generator, so it would take only 30-60 seconds to restore back electricity in each black out. It is the problem for the whole country, not the hotel. Even shopping malls (except restaurants/foodcourt) and offices are regulated to close by 20.00 due to this electrical shortage.

8. Rent a Car : the hotel provides rent-a-car as safest way to go alone. I didn't rent it from hotel due to higher pricing (any hotel in the world would charge higher anyway). If you want something cheaper but safe, try Dhaka Tours Rent-a-car [--].

9. Safe deposit box : is available next to reception. Provided with double key, but no inner box. You just need to inquiry from the front-desk manager. It is provided free of charge, but will cost you Tk 3500 (+/- US$ 50) if you lose your key.

10. Cultural shock : I found that all of the hotel staffs and officers are talkative. However, it is just a gesture of warm welcome and sometimes they are very much curious to know about your country. In contrary to the other review, I don't take this gesture as "asking for tip", but ofcourse tipping is very much welcome. They will still serve you well, even if you don't tip them.

11. Fitness Center : it is very small and available next to the restaurant bar. It seems to be closed all the time, so you may need to ask for assistance if you want to use it.

12. Bar : it is a place where you could enjoy alcoholic beverage. Bangladesh is a muslim country, where alcoholic beverage is not freely available. If you are a foreigner, alcoholic beverage will be provided to you without question.

13. Restaurant : Serving local/indian, chinese, american, and italian food. Taste is just standard, however my local friend said best is their pizza (which I did not try). It is recommended to eat in hotel restaurants or big restaurants in Dhaka, for your health reason.

14. Lobby lounge : nice and cozy for chit-chat or business talk, smoking is allowed. However, if you need beverages or food, it will be provided from restaurant, which will need sometime to prepare and serve.

Overall, I see that the hotel is okay to stay and quite safe. The thing I don't really like is the location that is sandwiched between Kawran Bazar that is very irregular and noisy, and the other side is main road that is always having traffic jam during morning and late afternoon. This hotel is okay if you just want to stay in standard quality hotel that is clean and safe, with reasonable price. However, no luxury is there (no swimming pool, etc.)

I stayed here in December 2005. It is a standard 'travellodge' budget style hotel the sort you find in any big European city.
My room was ok, fairly newly furnished and clean, it did smell a bit but mine seemed to be a one-off and other rooms were absolutely fine.
Food in the restaurant was pretty good and safe and there was also a fairly good internet connection in the business centre.

The Best Western La Vinci is located at a fantastic place bang in the business district - however the location is crammed with crazy traffic. The hotel is nothing much to write home about - more a boutique kind of a hotel, although liked the food there. OK for a 1 night business trip.

Hi, I been to Dhaka on a business trip and I stayed in this hotel, I would not suggest this hotel if you are on a official trip as this is located at Dhaka's largest vegetable market and even in the nights also you will not get proper peace. services of the hotel are not bad and rooms are also not up to the mark. they have a small room thats called BUSINESS CENTER. They charge too much for internet.

Locality is even worst, I have attached few pics..

I would suggest to stay in Gulshan Or Banani area.

I have stayed in some bad hotels but i always hate staying in a bad hotel that also is quite expensive. The service in the La Vinci is rude and terrible. Whenever you ask (or even dont ask) for anything at all they keep waiting around for a tip. When i first got into the room four different people came and disturbed me using different excuses and trying to get a tip (i didnt give them anything).
The room has ok facilities but is quite old and worn down. The food in the hotel is slightly worse than Dhaka average (pretty bad). Also the location of the hotel is very bad as it is next to one of Dhaka's food markets so it is surrounded by trucks carrying vegtables.
Overall - There are much better places in Dhaka than this at the same price.
